What made you decide to get a new cue.

Part of buying new cues for me has been changes in preferences. Part of it is that I save money for things I dont need; stereo equipment, shoes, clothes, gadgets, cues, etc. If no emergencies come up, I spend that money like a drunken sailor on shore leave, it just feels good!

I'm curious as to what made you decide to get a new cue. Not your first cue, a new one.

Did you lose confidence in a cue you used to like?

Just want something w better looks/construction?

Did you think you would play better?

Start of a new week.

'Cause I could.

Didn't have a Schon, and missed having one. I got rid of all my other cues except my break cue, after I got it. Unless I find a Runde Schon that is affordable, I doubt I will get any others.

i play with a on the fancy side chris nitti and paul dayton (ie points/ white joints/ and inlays/ white in butt) made of nitti amboyna forearm ebony points
dayton ebony forearm amboyna points
if you know the wood it is a "looker"
i played one pocket against a better player than me
but someone i thought i understood the game better than he did
several months ago
i got drilled....:embarrassed2:..:embarrassed2:,,..
made me realize
I SUCK.......:D
so i wanted to have a cue "under the radar"
i decided to get an african blackwood cue with a black leather wrap
and black phenolic sleeved joint (ie a wood to wood joint with a sleeve)
made by paul dayton
now i am the "stealth bomber"
when i get better i will pull out the fancy ones

CAD HaHa that's a good one

I enjoy rotating cues. I will play for 2-3 months with same cue then go to my cases grab a few to play and generally drift to one as my player.

To me it gives me the feeling of having a 'new' cue and the fact it mentally sharpens my game. Sometimes, it sticks and sometimes it goes back in case after only a few weeks and back to my 'Old Standby' like Chopdoc's Joss.

At one time I had about 25 nice cues to choose from. I have thinned this last year, unfortunately out of need not choice. Hope this year goes better and back to my buying mode. Have my eye on a few.

Have a good weekend:groucho:

-Kat,

Love the passion that it takes to produce great cues, want to make sure they are supported... really, it was just a Tuesday and wanted to spend some money.

Because I woke up. Also because my wife said I cant buy another one so I never bought another one I bought several.

I bought my first cue when I realise I really enjoy the game and wanted to get better and better.
I was going to a pool hall and I didn't know anybody, the only regulars were playing 3c, so I started playing too, just to have company and learn more about the game, strokes, spins, technique in general. This is when I bought my 2nd cue and it was because I wanted a 3c cue.
When I found people serious about pool and started going to more pool halls, discovering weekly pool tournaments, I was amazed and started to play pool again. This is when I sold my 3c cue and bought my current player, a poison nitro ni4. I chose this cue because I wanted to buy a LD shaft, it's a poison so a predator company so I knew it would be a decent cue, and the looks of it! It is stunning in my eyes. I love black and white (all my clothes are black and white), I love the long and short points and I love the octagonal shape it has on the handle, it's almost unique, that is I've only seen one more cue with it. I love everything about it. I changed the tip on my first cue to a phenolic one, so now I have a break cue as well :)

Experimentation! 100%

Try new materials, lengths & etc.

Only drawback is being stuck with cues that are under utilitized!

I refuse to accept crack head prices for them. So, nephews get them if they show an interest! Occasionally, sell some locally and some are real winners!!! Those are my prized possessions and not for sale!

So you win some and you lose some!

I kept getting cues because I kept coming up with new designs I wanted to have made.
Ergo, another custom cue got ordered. I have two more designs in mind, one being a
baseball theme cue and the other a Celtic theme. Alas, without being able to order cues
with ivory any longer has curtailed that ambition. So now it's down to adding a cue-maker
I have admired since the early 2000's and if I could land that one, I am essentially done.

There are a lot of Azers that know exactly what I'm referring to and I have some measure
of hope sooner or later one of them will turn me onto the cue I am looking for. And know
what, if it never happens, so what. It's better to have aspired and dreamed than sit with
regret and frustration over not getting what you yearn for. It's that way in life so why not
also with pool cues as well. Heck, it's not like I am hard up for a cue to play with.....Duh?

But some of the guys reading this will know exactly what I mean. When you have that
itch, sometimes it's just got to get scratched or else you never tire of trying. And the funny
part is after it gets scratched, sometimes it seems like it was not as important as it seemed
before when you still had a terrible itch. I have cues I don't use much any more and yet I
still crave a cue yet to be found. So my search continues up until my itch gets scratched.

Matt

Now I know I'm not the only one who have the itch. Not quite sure if it will be done at certain point.

Here's some advice Matt, dont wait any longer for your itch to get scratched and dont "settle" with what you have. Go out and seek your dream cue. If that means selling all your cues and advertising what you have to $pend, DO IT!

I'm younger than you AND no where's near as well off and I was able to get it done because seemingly like I think you WANT to be, I knew what I wanted, wouldn't settle, and never perpetually fall in love with any cue I've owned above my desire to acquire MY dream cue(s). I also didn't hesitate when any opportunity arose and didnt wait for them to neither.

Stop talking about it already and don't make excuses anymore. Just get it done.

Ya have limited play time before Father time and Mother nature call ya in for dinner...If you're gonna show up late at least make it worth the scolding.

(If your dream cue is one you MUST design from your favorite maker then never mind. That'll never happen ...LOL)

Why I bought my last new cue.....
I was a professional motocross rider back in the day and I HATED these guys that had the best of everything and couldn't ride, maybe jealousy, maybe I realized that it wasn't the key factor of becoming great I don't know. So fast forward 100years (so it seems). I make my pool purchases based off of skill increases! When I walk into a pool room I never wanted to be the "patch" guy with all the gadgets and high dollar cues and be an APA 5! So when I was a (5) I had a pechaur. When I got to be a (7) I bought a Dale Perry (he was known for great stuff back then) then recently I picked up the bug and did the table time and put together a few 5packs and I decided I EARNED the right to get a custom cue. So now I'm putting in more work and when I get better I'll get a better custom from a well known maker!
