What makes a shot 100%.

Reading some threads on here made me wonder, what constitutes a shot being 100%, or less then 100%?

I know players sometimes lie to themselves as to whether a shot is posible or not. ie will object ball pass obstructing balls, can the dbl kiss be avoided, etc.

So if a ball has a open path to the pocket and can be struck accordingly is it 100%?

IMO, absolutely no shot is 100%.
If your scenario above prevails (in red),
one still has to contend with nerves and the overall mental component of every game,
let alone every shot.

No doubt, we have seen pros miss straight-in shots that seemingly appeared to be "100%."

Quite simply, a player has to get any particular shot as close to 100% as he/she possibly can.
Every player does that in his or her own way.

The "lying" you refer to is nothing more than confidence; the ability to believe you can accomplish
a shot in light of any foreseeable impossibilities.
It's amazing what shots can be successfully performed when one believes in themselves. ;)

If you can successfully execute the shot 100 times, out of 100 attempts, the shot is 100%. If you successfully execute 90 times, out of 100 attempts, the shot is 90%.

Lying refers to trying the imposible.shot. I have quite the imagination when it comes to pocketing balls, but some balls just dont go. No matter who you are or how good you hit it.

Please note the quotes when I use the word lying, alphadog.
It's not lying for the sake of fooling oneself as much as it is being confident.
The same shot that is "impossible" (note the use of quotes again) for one player,
can be "possible" for another.

Reread my "posts" and you will see I meant lying.

Why make it more complicated than it is?

If there is a clear path from a selected ball to a particular pocket, it is 100% makeable, even it requires several rails, a multi ball combination, double kiss, and then a final carom.

Now, the likelihood of any individual player to make any particular shot, although makeable, will vary with the individual's personal ability to first "see" the shot and then to execute it. Some shots seem more difficult to make than others, but they all begin with seeing where the ball needs to be struck, and then striking it exactly there, of course the game itself is a lot more complicated than just making shots, but for each individual shot, it's either makeable or not.

I actualy believe what seperates the best players is the ability to stay within thier shot making ability 100 pct would have to be a ball in the jaws out side of that no shot is 100 pct

If you make a shot 100000 times and then miscue and miss, it's not a 100% shot. I don't think any shot is a 100% shot.

A shot is 100%...after it goes in and you have the shape you wanted.
