What makes you return again, and again to play tournaments at a particular

Coco,

Your original post is about tournaments. Now you chime in questioning how pool rooms and pool bars can survive without bangers and the recreational player and league players....What's up with that? is this a question for another thread?

I often wonder how many Pool Bars, and Pool Rooms would still be in business in the Bangers, Recreational Player, and the Recreational League Player that were just out for an evening or day of fun stopped playing pool?

What would the effect be on the Pool industry?

No Tom I was trying to make a point, and that is bangers and the recreational player and league players are need to keep pool alive, the "A" player are the minority of all player like in our state per our Rating System less than 12% of the total player in our rating book.

And what has this got to do with your original post?

You are very confusing with your replies. This thread was about what we (tournament players) like about the tournaments we play in and what keeps us coming back....'

Your point is common knowledge to the majority of pool hall players and owners and even the casual observers. Why do you mention it in this thread is confusing.

Yes the original thread was about tournaments, we get a lot of LESSOR Player at our tournaments because in AZ, unlike where you are MOST tournaments are handicapped.

They the lessor players add to the field, contribute to the pot, and many times win in 9 ball short races as their hard shots sooner or later sink a "9".:o

BTW I love Tournaments with Entry Fees & Green Fees under $20.00 total.

So your original question should be for AZ players that play in handicap tournaments because the majority of players in AZ tournaments are 'lessor skilled' low handicap players?

Please, next time you want to ask a question for AZ players ONLY, please state that in your post...

And, by the way, I don't remember anyone of the replies in this thread mentioning 'handicaps' being a requirement for a player to return to play again in a tournament. Does that answer your question?

As far as 'lessor skilled' players adding to the field... in the vast majority of pool tournaments, only 25% of the field gets any cash back and that means that 75% of the field is out of the Cash. Wouldn't you agree that the lessor skilled players make up the majority of the field?

A lot of times the tables are owned by the vending company and the establishment can't open them.

Around here the bar owners pay the quarters, and no green fee. It makes them look good, and they get half back when the vendor empties the tables.

Tom my question was to all players, you mention in post #2, "decent entry fee, nothing cheap ($15 to $100 this keeps the bangers out)". I was commenting on you comment.

Tournaments

Number one reason is the cash payback. Winning anything less, than say, $80 (weekly tournament), turns into punishment, especially when I can win more on a challenge table. Most all tournaments around here are added money, so that plays into the payback too. Most rooms are 50% added, but one room here adds 100%. All the major rooms here serve pretty good food.

Handicap tournaments are okay, but I have never seen one that has been entirely fair to all players. Lower level players get better, and they stay at the same handicap forever.

I just can't figure out how someone can win a minimum of $80 every week in a tournament. How low can you finish and still win that much?

We have handicapped tournys so that seems to be impossible to me.

I can't believe no one else has said the money! I would think that is the biggest criteria. And as far as tournaments, if the TD or owner are jerks, it can make the tournament a miserable experience. The people are important -whether the competition or the staff.

I play for the glory;) besides I don't get to the money enough to make that a big thing.

Good Clean tables. preferable 9'
good fast cloth
good chalk (went to a room the other day that had chalk that only said CHINA on it. Must be a new brand) :D
Good competition (I like to feel like I accomplished something if I win)
Starts on time
Next match starts as soon as the last one ends (if possible of course) In other words a good TD

Competition
Well-run events
Equipment
Friendly staff
Atmosphere - yeah, it sounds cheesy, but I like to feel at home if I'm gonna spend cash and time somewhere...
Prefer decent food and beer on site or ability to walk next door and bring it in....
If smoking is allowed, a decent filtration system where I can see across the room...
Staff/management that values customers and does not put up with violence/yelling/bs that does not belong in a bar/pool hall
Decent area to spectate/scout
Hot barmaids :grin-square:

Pool Bar, or Pool Room?

Most important factor: My ability to play.

Other than that, the following factors pretty much all fit:

Nice folks running the place
Family atmosphere - kids and all
Easy-to-afford prices
Clean place, NICE and clean restrooms
Well-cared for tables
No smoking (I'm badly allergic)
No alcoholic beverages

Did I mention nice folks running the place?
