For playability I would like to own (in no particular order):
Searing
Tascarella
Olney

My current Scruggs and Sly cues play stellar, can't imagine getting much better but I believe the 3 names above would be the best choices for upgrade.

I haven't played with cues from every cuemaker, but I have tried a lot of them. I own 2 of these 3 and I have shafts from the third.

Schick
Szamboti
Showman

Searing
Tucker
Schick

would be my pics...I've got a new Schick SP, that's my current player...but my prior player has been a Scruggs for many years...and I've got a Lambros and a Barnhart on the way...so, I can't wait to see how they feel...and then, I've also always wanted to feel out a Josey...and, then I've also wanted to feel out an ivory jointed Scruggs...it's really close to the top of my list...!!! right now...!!!

Anyhow, my 2 cents...

In no order i would want the Krick to have the supra pin the Cognoscenti to have the old clear glass pin not the black one
Cognoscenti
Chester Krick
Perry Weston

I have an L'Americano cue made by Joss that I paid $60 for. With a Tiger Everest tip it's capable of making every shot I've ever dreamt of and many more.

It's my favorite player of all time.

Money won't buy you love folks.

Ditto...I be rollin' with my McDermott. I'm going to treat myself to a cheap Mezz, however, when I go to pharmacy school.

1. South West
2. Carmeli
3. Lathom

All with wood to wood joints, ivory ferrules,12.9-13.1 mm shafts, and Kamui medium tips(black or brown).

1. Carolina Custom, 60", ivory ferrules, SS 5/16X14 joint. Leather/reptile wrap.
2. Runde-era Schon. Micarta ferrules. Cortland wrap.
3. Modern Schon. Stock. Linen wrap, ivorine ferrules.

Honorable mention:

Gulyassy. I use his SPTX shaft with Kamui Black Soft tip, love it. Would love to see how that shaft works on one of his cues, preferably the one Earl uses...not necessarily the javelin/extension one, but the base cue.

Go with what you know. I'd love to try out the other high end cues mentioned here, but until I do, these are the players I trust.

Player's cues or cue makers cues?

I thought your post meant "Players" cues. Sure, I know of those top cue makers mentioned. I've owned a Rambo, a Harry Pedros (from Eddie Kelly after I whopped him with the seven), a Frank Paradise, That one got searched on my way home from the Dallas post office, thirty minutes after JFK was shot, a Balabushka, several Joss' and others that have jumped out of my old brain.
But, for "players" cues, Eddie Taylor gave me his Hall of Fame cue two weeks before he died, telling me "I'll give it to you now. This way it won't hurt to get it when I'm gone". It still hurts. I'll enter and stick with that one.
Keep it nice. Alfie

My sense of fair play

Makes me straighten out my "Whopping Eddie Kelly with the seven" story.

I was twentyish and playing OK. Eddie had just won the Vegas tournament and was hanging out in Dallas at the infamous Cotton Bowling Palace.
He called a taxi and said "Come on, Alfie. I'll give you the seven for twenty a game until my cab arrives." He was stiff. I wasn't. I had JACKPOT call and cancel his cab and was drilling him pretty good. He couldn't understand where his cab was but his focus was on making that kid quit running out. Sudenly that beautiful Eddie Kelly slip stroke started slipping just right and I turned into a bench warmer. But, I was still Alfie Taylor, who knew how to keep the paper, so I had Jack call his cab again. Classy fellow, that Eddie. Shook my hand, didn't mind the donation and sold me his cue. Then Alfie's dumb twin had Eddie's name removed from the name plate and mine put in.
Keep it $. Alfie
