What shipping tube should I use?

I like using a 3" pvc pipe inside a triangular shipping tube frm hour shipper of choice. Home Depot, or the like, will cut down a 10' pvc pipe when you buy it. It's a little heavy, so mor expensive to ship, but it would be tough to damage a cue shipped this way.

You can get Free Triangular 36" Priority Tubes from USPS.
To make them extra durable, I cut one down a bit and encase
it inside another (double thickness) plus generous bubble wrap.
Never had a issue when using this method and I have bought,
sold, or traded 400+ Cues since the mid-90's.

Post Office has strong, thick tubes....I think around $3.00 or so....Also they have rectangle boxes for free...

I have bought cues, and received it in nothing more than USPS triangle tube. I also received a shaft that was sent UPS using a very thick cardboard tube, and the tube was visibly bent. The shaft was unharmed.
YMMV, and depending on your peace of mind it may be worth to invest and ship in one of these.

As an alternative to PVC, you can also get ABS, a bit lighter and still strong. It is still cheap, but buy the PVC caps as they are much cheaper then the ABS caps. I send my cues in these and then a box or triangle. Cheap insurance.

Where can I get a strong tube to ship a cue?

I go to a flooring store and I take hand saw with me, the cardboard tubing out of the center of a carpet roll works the best.............................
Its thickest wall cardboard tubing that I know of and its FREE................

It seems like someone needs to invent and market a reasonably priced cue shipping case. Here is some free money for someone, build it and rent them to cue builders and resellers. You would have to make it reusable. Does anyone know what carbon fiber or Kevlar runs these days and how to process it cost effectively.

If the cue is going to be air freighted then make sure the pvc pipe is ventilated.
If not the cue will be in a vacuum chamber..........

The cargo hold in a jet liner when the heating system is turned off can be way below freezing and if the cue is in a vacuum chamber it could cause problems.......

The heating systems are normally only on when there are animals being transported in the cargo hold area of a jet liner

Mike Cochran told me once that they had the best luck with the triangular shipping boxes. The problem with a round tube is that it can roll, and that they had cues damaged when they came off a conveyor belt in a processing center.

Of course, you could you could still use some kind of tube inside the package for additional protection if you wanted.
