What size Enrty Fee?

Based on what looks like the poor showing in Olathe for a $3000 entry fee, what do you think would get a full field of 32 once a month and where?

I think a $1000 to $1500 in North or Central Florida would be possible...maybe Capone?s in Spring Hill or a Jacksonville room.

I think if the players or their backers all spoke up and said what they would be willing to put up each month it could happen.

It doesn?t have to be Florida...I just know there are a lot of top players in Florida and Georgia. Johnnyt

I would wait until entry cut off at 8:00pm tomorrow night before I start calling this tournament a dissapointment, there are supposed to be several others coming in today and tomorrow. Time will tell.

i would love to see like a $500 entry fee and 128 player field once a month on the east coast perhaps in ga,sc or nc.johnny and kim's place in ga would be a great spot i think.those 2 could probably get a huge turnout.i think a lot of players will put up $500 before they put up 2or 3k and can you imagine the action...wowy!
 
I believe all major pro tournaments should be raising their entry fee. You might cut out some of the bottom tier players. It would make for a better tour.

Your right...I was counting the 1-pocket turnout...sorry. But my ? still stands for 9 or 10-ball tournaments. Johnnyt

i dont agree,i think the point is we need MORE players and not less regardless of their speed.if you play poker,you dont go to trnys hoping there are no donks in the field.they are were the money comes from!

Well thres not enough lower tier players willing to put up even a $100. If there were we would have full fields of 32 and 64. Your not going to get many pro players that will travel very far for a $2000 to $3000 1st place tournament. Johnnyt

Some thoughts to add to your idea....

I'd like to see monthly events....ie, sizeable tournies with the $500 entry in prime pool venues all over the US.....of these 12 events, 3 or 4 of them would have a larger buy-in and be majors of sorts....say one 9/10-ball, one 8-ball, one straight, and maybe one 1pkt.....these events would have a larger buy-in, maybe $1k-2k :confused:

You could do NY, Florida, Cali, Indy, Tx, Chicago....move it all around the US....

I'm surprised that you don't get more entrants at $500.....hell, although I would have been crushed, I would have gladly entered the Jacksonville event recently at that price, even knowing I had zero chance....it would have just been great to play a couple of pros and know the donation would support pool and the event :) .....I don't think enough people know they can enter, or can they???
 
As far as the argument that lower tier players won?t get to play with the pros, just go to just about any room in the country and you can play cheap $50 to$100 sets with a pro. Johnnyt

I hear what you are saying Johnny....but it would have been more of an honor to play them on that stage and support the tournament, that's all I was saying....pros at $50 sets??? Not bad :D

I get your point of playing the pros on stage. Myself...If I wanted to donate to a pro I wanted to get it over with one way or the other. I use to get the biggist spot I could from them and play cheap sets or $10 to $20 a game. If their not in action and they have the time...they'll play you cheap.

Some of the ones I played cheap were Buddy Hall, Steve Cook, C.M. Lee, Richie Rich, Mike Sigal to name a few. Johnnyt

big perm i know a lot of people that feel the way you do and that was my point.why have a trny with 32 stone cold champions when you can have a mixed field of 64? if you blow 100 or 200 in a trny and you got to play one of your favorite players ever then wth is 200?:D and if you didnt learn anything its because you didnt pay attention!
 
I'm not saying to do away with the low entry fee tournaments. There would still be plenty of them around. Most local pros would still go to them if there wasn't a bigger tourament going on. I'm just trying to find out what the pros and/or their bankers would be willing to put up for a monthly tournament. Johnnyt

There are plenty of regional weekend tournaments. Lots of pro play in these. Pool will never see 6,000 to 8,000 players in a main event like poker. Even if the entry fee was $100. However I believe you could have a major event such as the U.S.OPEN go to a 128 player field. A $1,000 each plus some added money would make for a type of event that would pull players from every corner of the globe. I stake a few players sometimes. I would be more than willing to go even to a $2000 entry fee. Travel expenses (airfare,lodging, rental car,meals) make it so we have to finish in the top 3 or 4 just to break even on a major tournament. I bring some experience to this. One of my friends won a major event a few months ago. He won $12,000!! Second place was $6000. Everyone else was lucky to break even! That is pretty sad. 128 players at $1,000 each is equal to 1280 at $100 each. We see pro's match up for 5 or 10 dimes on even money. What makes any one think they wouldn't pay a $2,000 entry fee getting big odds on the money to win? I'm in that's all I know!:cool:
 
Maybe Grady would like to host a monthly event like this at his new room when it opens. Grady is a great promoter.
