What Sports?

I was watching Bowling a few days ago and this one guys one opponent knew he lost the match before the match was even over, and in pool you don't know the match is over until that nine ball is in the pocket so i was wondering what other sports are like that, you know the game is over before it is over, a stupid question but nothing better to do heehehhe. Thanks. Cole.

most games are like bowling

Football, baseball, golf, tennis, most games a player or team knows when they are taking a thrashing and it is all over but the crying, sometimes very early in the game. Speaking of thrashing, add many boxing matches to that list.

However, nine ball always holds out the hope that the better shooter at the moment will make a mistake and do all the work and then let the other player cash in. Or the player getting outclassed can slop shot in the nine ball or even put together one to three shots to deliberately set up a nine ball combination to win.

Anyway you size it, I have always thought that nine ball was a silly game to gamble on if not playing a set. Too many variables that amount to luck.

Golf: You can be still out their playing with no chance
Cricket
Pool leagues when a team wins quickly but you play out the other games.
Shooting
All running, swimming and other races.

Probably lots of sports can be categorized this way.

I'd have to say Monopoly when the other guy has houses and hotels on all of the properties and you don't have shit. Now, I know what you're going to say...Monopoly is a game, not a sport. But we have to ask one more time...is pool a game or a sport? ;)

Heard something funny once. Anything you do that as you consume alcohol you get better at (Bowling, darts, shuffleboard, pool) can't be considered a sport. Not sure I agree but it is a little humorous. Guess I'll have to compete in all of the bar olympics with libations included and post the results at a later date.
:D

Funny question. Try losing to Bustamante 8-0 with him breaking and think you still have a chance in a race to 9. Although technically, it's not over until it's over, there are times when you know you're beat. By the same token, there are times when you know you got someone. This has happened for me at when my oponnent is on the hill and I get out to make it hill/hill. With the break, I tell myself "it's over and he/she knows it."

1) It can, for practical purposes, happen in snooker, where a break is customarily completed even when a frame is already decided.

2) It can happen in cricket. In a cricket test match, a format sometimes used is that the length of the match is a fixed. One team bats until it is either out or satisfied with its run count. Then, the other team bats. The match can reach a point where there aren't enough pitches remaining for the trailing team to catch up.

3) It can happen in archery or riflery competition, too. A player can get to the point that even a bullseye on every remaining shot will not give them a chance to catch up.

I suspect that many other types of competition create this situaiton.
