What to do if package is lost

I agree with Joe said. I've had many USPS Priority mail packages that had zero scan activity from receipt, to delivery to recipient. Gotta love it...

I once dropped off two Priority Mail packages on the same day going to different destinations. Package 1 was scanned throughout the process and delivered, package 2 however had ZERO scan activity until it was actually delivered. It was never even scanned to show it was accepted... talk about sitting on edge a few days.

I'll edit this to further add, one thing I do NOT like about USPS, at least my local office anyway, they said they can not give me a receipt when I drop a package off. So theoretically I would think you could drop off a pre-paid postage package at the front desk (assuming you already printed the postage, etc), not get a receipt, and they could claim they NEVER received it.

They can certainly scan the item at the desk and print you a receipt. I do it every time I drop off there. Not saying that a particular clerk may not be a little lazy. Ask them to scan the package's bar code and give you a receipt...if the clerk says they can't, ask for the supervisor/postmaster.

***Edited to add a copy of a receipt of an on-line labelled/paid package, scanned in and received at my local USPS...sent a couple of days ago...

I understand completely....if it comes up "accepted" at the post office, it DOES mean that they scanned it in at the front desk. That does NOT mean that they scanned it again at the back loading dock or at ANY other position within the travel route of that package. I have actually had to have USPS locate packages for me on several occasions...I have shipped/received tons of cue packages over the years. Priority Mail 2-3 day delivery is "normal" delivery, not "guaranteed" delivery. They have 14 days before they have to deliver or search for a USPS Priority Mail package.

Been there, done that, got several of the t-shirts.
Joe

Where can I get a T-shirt? I wear X-Large but sometimes they fit tight especially lately.:sorry:

No matter what...without USPS, I would be in big trouble. I have 100% faith in them as long as packages are packaged and labeled properly.

Okay let me add something to this. The gentleman is shipping a 1x2 george case and a nice Kornele to me from S. Korea from the army post office through USPS I have the Tracking # and I called USPS and they said that they will do an investigation. The Items were shipped USPS Express but from overseas. and more insight that all could give would be great.

If you have "been there, and done that", then you should have already received the t-shirt...maybe they mailed it out to you...:thumbup:

Just hope for honest help!

I mailed a cue to Portland from Central California, it showed scanned on it's way to buyer. 3 weeks later NOTHING my PO told me to wait and let it take its course and it will arrive! NOT!! 3 times a week I would go to the post office asking about it with no real answer. They told me it went to Bakersfield then to Burbank and was still on its way to Portland on Priority mail. Finally 2 months later I receive an empty tube the says return to sender from Memphis!! All BS! Yes I should have insured it but it was a $200 break cue. They refunded me $12.65 for shipping. GL

big difference shipping from overseas! it got to go through customs and that may take a while.

CONUS USPS Priority is 2-3 days max. I have never had any shipments lost...knock on wood!

If it was sent to an APO/FPO address, it is an entirely diferent ball game...check with your unit's shipping clerk.

Does the cue have Ivory in it?

Items can sit in Customs for a week or more too.Listen to what Kevin Brewer and Joe,(Bama Cues) have to say. They are both honest, helpful, and have more deals than a whole lot of us put together. If your cue is coming from overseas, expect very little info from USPS,except for maybe some scan that it is in customs in a few days. Try to be patient.I hate waiting too,and I doubt if I will buy from outside USA again.BTW,good luck.

Just have to be patience.

I shipped a package first class mail to guy in NJ (I'm from NY)...normally would have taken 2-3 days...took them 2 weeks to deliver. I found out that First Class mail have tracking that can only be tracked internally...so first class mail is not a bad way to go for smaller packages domestically. Shipped another First Class mail international to Italy and it took almost 6-7 weeks for the package to arrived.

So again, if it Express...just be patience and ask the shipper to collect on the postage when you get the package.

Regards,
Duc.

Thanks Joe! I thought that was kind of crazy, the two times I asked they looked at me like I had asked for their first born or something. I'll ask for the head honcho next time I drop one off. :)

Me Too

Hey guys I am doing business with a guy here on AZ, and he sent me the tracking #, so I have that. The package was supposed to be to me on march 1st it still is not here. According to the Tracking info it was accepted at his post office on the 27th of Feb. and that is as far as it has gotten. What steps do I need to take to try nd recover the package from the post office.

Presently going through the same thing...my package expected delivery date was 03/06...but just shows accepted at the po and then sort facility on 03/04...no activity or update on the usps site since. I have had this happen several times before...the package would just arrive out of the blue days later with no updates. Its inconvenient for sure and unnerving but my advice would be to sit tight for a few more days it will probably arrive.

In my case if my package does not arrive some postal worker in New York City managed to steal themselves one very nice Josey cue

I am sitting tight and just waiting and see what happens. If I get it awesome If I dont I will be pissed and a very nice Kornele will be gone.

Did he do it online

Did he do it online? And just show slip made out but not shipped?

You said it was an Express Mail sent from an APO address, so it may take a couple of extra days. Call 1-800-ask-USPS tomorrow, if it does not show up. They should be able to track a EMS package.

Although it would still have to go through customs, the APO packages are treated differently. There is a possibility that the ivory could slow things down, but an APO is technically US territory, so it would not be "international" requiring CITES paperwork, I would think.
