What would be a good spot? Efren v Sigel

How much weight would Efren have to give Sigel?
In 8 ball and in 9 ball?
I think 3 games on the wire in 8 ball.
The 8 in 9 ball.

Sound fair
What do you guys think?

The way the IPT makes it sound - Efren needs the spot!
Pretty unbiased opinions by the IPT announcers:rolleyes:
I guess it makes for good TV- kind of like the WWF (please no...)

Depends on the table they are playing on and the length of the race..

On the average big ass buckets for pockets tables the pro's usual use, I'd say Efrin could spot the 3 games on a race to 10. On a tighter table, like a Diamond, it'd be more like 3 to 7.....

On 9-ball it'd be the 7 all day long on buckets and could probably spot him the Orange Crush on a Diamond....

1 pocket, Efrin could spot him 10/5 and make him hate it...

The eight is virtually meaningless as a nine ball spot at this level. I think Efren can give up the seven, eight and nine, also called the seven and out, and still have even action. Average pocket size assumed.

spot

by refering to the orange crush,i you saying the 5 and the break?i hope not.if so,let me know when that match is taking place and we can bet it up.you can't spot any world champion(that can still play) especially that loud mouth that kind of weight.games on the wire would be the only true spot,or the 5 and the break ,if ya want to see efren robbed ,lol.

I agree.

Was the Sigel/Reyes match a fluke? Did Mike just have a bad day? Was Reyes playing his best ever? I would have to see them play some more to really know.

Maybe there will be a rematch. Like in boxing. But I doubt it.

Somehow, I don't think Mike would be too eager to gamble with Reyes using his own money.

I wonder what kind of a spot Reyes does give when he gambles.

They showed the Reyes/Soquet match on ESPN yesterday and Ralf didn't need a spot to beat him. Was that a fluke? Did Efren have a bad day? Was Ralf playing his best ever? I would have to see them play some more to really know?

I think this is a realistic post. Your never as good as you think you are when you win, and your never as bad as you think you are when you lose. The reality falls somewhere in the middle.

I think that Sigel was in a bad spot trying to perform in the finals. Think about it; he never really competed on the tables until all the money was on the line, where Reyes already had the table speed down from days of competition. I think this was a massive advantage.

Does anybody remember that Efren almost didn't make it past the first round he played? He continued on in the tournament only by the grace of the Games Lost Index or some such. He definitely wasn't dominating when he first hit the tables cold against players who had been in competition a few days. All his practice did not have him tuned for competition. Mike tangled with Efren when Efren had his game rolling and Mike was basically cold. I think he might have had all of his trash talk on his mind too once it was obvious he was outclassed. Nobody likes to look like a fool in front of millions of viewers.

Regardless of past records, Efren is the best today. Mike might play close enough that he could beat Efren on a given day but I think that Reyes was the one with a huge spot this time. He settled down far faster than Mike. I am left suspicious of his dogging of a few shots early in the second set. I think it was deliberate and am left to wonder if it was per instructed. I think he could have very possibly went sixteen games and out had he kept the hammer down. Wouldn't have made for interesting TV for the average viewer however.

Your kidding, right?

I heard Shannon Daulton say once that Efren could get backed to give any player in the world the 7...except Archer and Strickland, they could only get the 8.

When you find someone "GOOFY" enough to give Earl some weight let me know.

8 Ball- 3 games on the wire
9 Ball- Give Sigel the 8 and one on the wire going to 9
One Pocket- Give him 10/6 (race to 4) and give him the biggest headache of his life.

Hmmm......what was the score of that match......8 to 7?

Oh yeah, Gerda called and said she'd spot earl 1/2 game on the wire.

I think you are pretty close, but I would say:

8 ball - 3 games on the wire to 9, best 3 out of 5 sets.
9 ball - 3 games on the wire to 9. (a ball means nothing to someone good except going on the break, combos, and caroms), best 3 out of 5 sets.
1 pocket - agree 10-6, race to 4.

And I still think Efren has the best of it. I have never seen Efren play in person, and Mike only once (against Jeanette at Magoos in Tulsa) in person. Remember, Mike has won 8 ball championships, and he is younger than Efren. Once he settled down, I think my suggested spots would be very close.

hi

you knowsome of the things i read on hear are so incorrect i have to say something.even though i should be hitting balls getting ready for the venition ,i just have to defend sigel.first of all i know mike is the first to say hes the greatest in the world, but he kinda is.now i think efren is great and better than me but someone said mike needs like three on wire to nine in 8ball,9ball,and 10-6 one hole.well im no mike sigel but ill play efren that way and bet fairly high.mike and efren are about the same age so they should play about the same.heres something alot of people dont know in orlando a few days before the finals mike strung eight racks practicing,he looked awesome.yeah i know he played bad in finals, but you cant define a great career because of a bad set or two.ive seen efren play like an idiot a couple times but im not trying to give him games on wire.in my opinion mike wins at 14.1,efren 1hole,there about even at 8 ball.and 9ball.believe me there alot of guys out there that think their great players that i would love to stake mike against .hes gonna be tough at this 8ball trust me.just my humble opinion.

Come to think of it the last time you played him you made him snap his Cue in half.:D

I cannot believe how little respect Mike Sigel is getting here. Anyone who thinks Efren can give out the orange crush to Captain Hook is a poor handicapper imo. 3 games in a race to 7 in eightball is equally ridiculous imo.

Nobody in thier right mind would back Efren giving Mike that kind of weight but Mike never the less does need weight from Reyes.
