What would be the perfect tiebreaker?

The WPA 10-ball has the shoot out. Players say they don't like it, but alledgedly the crowd flocks wherever the shoot out takes place.

People suggest: a difference of 2 games. The disadvantage is that this could still last a bunch of games.

What other tie breakers would be interesting?

In chess there's the armageddon game. Black has less time, but wins on a draw. In some tournaments players can bid on the time disadvantage for black, lowest time gets to play black.

Translated to pool (10-ball):
Player 1 gets the break, 25 second shot clock
Player 2: 30 second shot clock

Or:
Player 1 gets the break, wins on the 10
Player 2 wins on the 8

What are other possible ways to break the tie?

Play pool that’s the best way. That’s what the game is called and the way it should be decided. Unfortunately in any sport when there is a tie at the end one team or individual has to lose.

Well I'm the torch carrier for the 2 ahead concept, so although I don't have another idea. I will say that although the potential is there. The likely hood of the 2 ahead format lasting an excessive amount in the pro circuit is likely small.

I would not promote 2 ahead in an amateur event.

Slap contest?

HORSE

in case win by 2 is 'too basketball'
lol... these days the closer correlation would be "win by 3".

If anything the basket ball comparison is closer to the current Predator shootout.

Win by two in my example has both players having the opportunity to win the match.

I just meant that street ball is usually win by 2. I asked a guy if he wanted to do win by 2 as we got to hill-hill and even tho it was my break he just replied "this aint basketball".

Even tho I was joking, now that I think about it, pool pros playing HORSE to decide a set would be wildly entertaining. Not pool. But fun af. Not all that different than a shootout really, except each player chooses the challenge shot rather than a predetermined spot shot. The late Larry Nevel would be forever undefeated in HORSE.

What are other possible ways to break the tie?
1 game sudden death, lag for the break. Any balls pocketed on the break are spotted back up. First player to shoot after the break must call a push out, giving the opponent the option to take the shot or pass it back.

This eliminates the chance of a break and run and guarantees both players have either a push out or an option to shoot.

What are other possible ways to break the tie?

Each player gets a shot then the other player gets a shot (like scotch doubles), running balls from whatever game and rules they are playing.
First miss* looses;
every time the rack/game is completed it is re-racked and play continues.
(*) player misses shot or opponent plays a lockup safety resulting in a foul. or player foul
