What would you do (8 ball)?

This is prob one of my best ever shots that I intended to play. The game was 8 ball and it was the deciding frame. I was playing with a young friend who was still learning the game, we where playing two established pro's in a large event in the UK. It was my shot and I was shooting the 8 Ball and the two red balls where our opponents.

Did you make the 8? Holy crap. The only thing I can see is shooting into the point and trying to kick the 8 in the corner. I doubt I would even make a hit but that's all I see. Hopefully others will chime in so I can learn something.

Great shot however you did it.

Hard masse like this ?

:D

Whatever you did, I guess if you made the 8-ball, it was quite a feat !

Intentional foul resulting in a cluster with the other solid or 8? (Leaving no shot with ball-in-hand if you were playing that way)?

2 shots for a foul if I remember correctly!

PS
MJ do you have any video of that Masse shot? :-)

There was an earthquake, the cue-ball moved away from the obstruction and you shot the 8-ball in clean the moment the tremor subsided. So what kind of gapper does God get for that one?

Your young friend picked up the table causing the cue ball to scratch, thus giving you ball in hand for an easy win.

I would guess like this:

)END

The arrow makes it look like masse, but really just off the end rail with a little top right.

I think on new cloth, the shot never comes short enough if you hit below the side pocket, as shown. I vote for a half-masse to the opposite long rail with right english for a one-rail kick.

You could be right, but it will start with right and pick up more right off the first two rails, which will shorten the last angle. At least that's what I was thinking. :)

i'm with jude here.......even if you intended it.........it was a miracle.........LOL

i'd have to say, maybe you could jack up on the ball and jump/masse it into the short cushion, back towards the 8.

for all reasonable purposes.........you're f^&#ed............ :D

Good memory, but only for a limey ! For those going 'huh?', in the UK version of 8 Ball, after a player fouls his/her opponent gets 2 turns (2 consecutive innings) shooting from where the balls lay. In other words, no ball in hand, but you get to miss a shot and the table is still yours (until you miss a second time). I found this rule rather strange when I played at the bar under the Grad Students Dorm at the London School of Economics, but they assured me that this is the penalty for fouls in 8 ball in the UK. I found it to be even more of an advantage than ball in hand !

Dave, who see's no out to the presented shot, and agrees with others that you are screwed 99 times out of 100, but is interested in that other 1 too, spill the beans man !

Seriously tho...did you kick it 3 rails with english and
drain the 8 in the top corner pocket? Also how did your
opponents and friends react? lol everyone musta been in
shock

peace

The 3 rail kick is what I saw pretty quick for a shot to make. If this was two shot though I would play a safe chipping the 3 ball out from the pocket trying to get it to the long rail and bring the cueball off the opposite end rail and back close to its original postition. They play this crap 2 shot 8-ball in Adelaide exclusively in their effort to be more "British" and all the top players I know would not dream of playing the hit there, it is the low percentage shot because even if you hit the 8 and dont make it you are still a sure sell out. The people who are looking at this have to be aware that you were probably playing on a 3 1/2 by 7 with snooker cut pockets and small object balls and a cueball smaller then the object balls by a fair bit. Potting balls close to the rail takes a skillful shot. Your definately not a favorite in playing the safe but I think you have more of a chance of your opponent missing after a decent makeable safe then for you making the 8.

Come on, this is a hanger. Aim into the edge of the point, as follows.

It is a rounded snooker cut pocket, and the side pocket is rounded as well. You are playing on cloth that has a thick nap akin to snooker felt and the cueball is extremely small and the object balls not alot bigger. There is no "point" on the pocket if they are playing true 2-shot.
