What would you do here? 8 ball end game

Cut the 13 ball to make 5. Try to play speed for the cue ball behind the eight by bottom right corner. Mostly trying not to make my ball...leaving a cross corner kick bank, or two rail kick into side or corner...

This came up in a game the other day. I was stripes, what would you do?

Shoot the cueball with just enough speed to pocket the solid leave the cueball in the jaws of the pocket and hopefully place your ball infront of the
cueball so he has to jump to get to his ball .

I agree this is the shot. The 8 becomes a big ball after the QB goese past the side pocket. It's a very simple shot. Johnnyt

I like this, I feel it really improves the chances of a win for the stripes.

If you think you can pocket the 5, you have to do it. Admittedly, there's a risk (it doesn't look easy) but leaving the 5 there is a near certain loss. JasmisonNeu pointed out the huge safety zone which allows you the luxury to focus on making the 5.

This appears to be the best solution if it's workable but from the diagram it seems that the cut on the 13 ball may not assure that the 5 ball gets pocketed because the 5 is off to the side of the pocket and may not fall and certainly not workable for a left handed layer.

The suggestion by 8pack is also a good one but only if the 13 ball is not frozen to the rail.

The way they are sitting I think that the carom off the 13 ball to make the 5 ball and with a bit of draw and left spin to get the cue ball to the safe zone would be fairly easy to do. The only problem with this is that you lose the luxury of leaving the 13 ball in front of the pocket. For this reason I like the option that 8pack suggests. Having the 13 ball in front of the pocket is huge because no matter what he does with his ball you're a threat to win from there.

Hard to tell from the diagram whether this shot is possible, but on a real table I'd look real hard at this option:

This is so easy to execute compared to trying to move the CB to the opposite end of the table. You just have to be sure you can get the CB to roll into the 5-ball FULL, while avoiding the double-kiss on the 13. From the diagram, I think that can be done, but it would be easier to judge in real life.

I thought about this one too. There's a lot going on here and yes, if this were real life, it'd be much easier to judge. My fear, as you suggested, would be that you would have to hit it more full to get the 13 to move increasing the chance of a double-kiss. If that happens, it's tap tap tap for your opponent. The advantage to JamisonNeu's approach is that simply making the 5 will add enough difficulty to the situation to assume another turn at the table. If you fail to pocket the 5-ball, there's a reasonable chance you'll tie it up with the 13.

I agree. This was my first thought but I like JamisonNeu's suggestion better. In Andrew Manning's shot, if you don't get the hook behind the 13 you lose. I'd look at it in real life, but unless the hook is unmissable I like the percentages on Jamison's shot better.

Is anybody else having a problem editing the WEI table? I normally just click the "edit" icon but I'm just coming up with a blank screen.

I agree, this is the best way I think, If you get the cue ball anywhere past the middle of the table, the oponent is ether safe or has to make a tough shot.
