I would freeze the 6 on the 8

roscoe's leaves the cueball in a better spot for you but along the lines of taking the easy road I would just focus on leaving the 6 against the 8.

Damn, you're not invited to play along anymore Roscoe.:D Was it really that easy? J/K, good answer.

It's one of those "risk vs reward" shots.... If you believe that you are proficient enough to kick then graze the 6 w/o moving it that far off the rail, that's what I would go for, or a variation thereof. I would just strive to get the cb downtable and leave the 6 behind the 8 so your opponent is forced to break them apart.

As far as nudging the six like IofS suggested, you are just going to give your opponent the chance to do the same again to you, or play even safer, which is why I would want to seperate the two with as much green as possible.

In addition, if you don't leave the 6 married to the 8 or hidden in some sort of fashion, you would leave your opponent a chance to cross bank into the side.

Just a few thoughts...

Here's another one. My answer is included. I love hitting this shot, one of my favorites. I use extreme bottom left, at a speed so the CB will turn over just before reaching the 1, then the CB will follow to the side rail. Very important to hit the 1 full, almost straight in, so the CB will follow. If not, the CB will go to the rail and back to the other side where the 4 and 9 is. Note: The 1 will go in because of the transfer of english from the CB, when it hits the rail before the pocket it will have right hand spin on it which will allow it to spin into the corner. Peace, John.START(

The 1 and the 4 balls are invisible on my WEI table:eek:

I'm a stupid streetplayer, but I'd try this...basically slowroll the cue ball up on the 6 and bump the 8 a little closer to the pocket..with the 6 above the 8. Basically anywhere he puts you, you can at least kick/shoot at the 6 and carom into the 8 and make it. If you manage to freeze/almost freeze him under the 6, he's in a kinda tough spot.

With that option EggMc, it gives your opponent to do the correct shot against you. Even if you don't get the CB down behind the 9, you'll leave your opponent with a very long shot with a tough angle to get position on the 7. Your option is not the worst thing that could happen, but it seems to allow your opponent to be in the drivers seat instead of putting him on the defensive. Peace, John.

I looked at roscoe's solution...didn't even think of that...roscoe knows too much :D my thinking was...well you're in a tough spot...put him in a tough spot where he has a good chance of selling out a kick-carom or a carom. best I could come up with

It took me a few strokes, but by just skinning the 6 and hitting the 8 as much as possible, I was able to get this result 3 times in a row. Of course, this kind of finesse will not work on bad tables conditions.

If that was not an option, I tried a double kiss off of the 6 a few time and the cue ball still got down behind the 9 and would sometimes go in the side or become a duck...which is dangerous for the coming kick shot.

Hil- Hill

My table only show the 6 .7.8 and 9. that being the case I would slow roll the cb up to the rail and 6 letting the 6 hit the 8 and block the cb from the 9 if the other guy can't hit the nine you have ball in hand for the win with the 6 in the side , 7 down the rail and 8 whereever you want to put it.---Smitty

Maybe I got it wrong? Was this 8-ball or 9-ball?
Donovan, this was 9 ball. I also put another shot in post #7, but no one seems to have caught it. It is also 9 ball. Just thought I'd share it. Peace, John.

LOL, I knew it was 9-ball. I said that because of the post that refered to it as 8-ball. Sorry, maybe that wasn't so funny.

I thought since you said what you did in #7, you didn't want a response to that one. DOH!

My angle looking at the picture might be off, but on my table, I was able to just slow roll it up past the 4 and still have an angle to ge on the 3. However I tried the skidding ball just short of contact like you said and I was even closer to the rail, which gives you a larger margin for error. NICE SHOT!
