The fact is, a lot of pool is subject to this. My opponent at hill-hill could shoot the 9 straight in the hole (with all the rest of the balls on the table) and claim the win. With an absence of a referee, the call goes to him.

Some pool rooms have surveillance cameras. Ask the owner to replay the last few moments of the last game. You'll only need to show who made the last shot anyways.
 
I am not going to mention any names, but I was playing a well known pro in a tournament once and I had him stuck 5 - 2 going to seven. The next game he won he went and marked up his score on my counter and when I brought it to his attention he claims that it was his marker. I asked for a referee to come over to complain and the ref says "I wasn't here" and gave my scores to the pro. The ref wouldn't even ask any one that was watching.

Can you please elaborate on this? This is the kind of thing that could destroy a pro's career. This happened in front of people who knew it was obviously totally wrong?

I hope you take this question in the good-natured spirit it is intended, but... how could you continue playing at that point? Why would you continue playing at that point?

I mean, this isn't 4-3, where he's probably cheating but maybe not. This is just out-and-out cheating, lol.

I did have something like that happen to me too. I was playing a military championship in Mannheim, Germany, where ALL men in the field had to spot ALL women in the field 2 games in a race to 5 in 9 ball.

I played a girl who didn't pay bad, and won 2 games on me before I really had a chance (slopped in some balls). I then turned up the heat and won 5 straight games. I went to shake her hand, and she insisted the score was 4-4. There were no scorekeeping beads, and in such a short race, I hadn't seen the need to put quarters under the rail to keep track.

I explained to her exactly how I won each game, and where I shot key balls, and she said "I don't know about that, but the score is 4-4." Her male friend backed her up, and my wife didn't love me enough to watch my matches all the way through, even though she was at this tournament..:mad: I got so royally pizzed at what the lady was doing, I ended up losing the next game and the match.

I then played like a man posessed, she got eliminated by someone else, and I played the reigning US Army Europe Women's Champ in the finals. Had to beat her two races in a row. Final score: 5-2, 5-3 me. This included her handicap. The only game she got was when I payed her safe, she tried to bank the 1, hit it so bad she bank combo'ed the 9.:D

As for the other chick.. Well karma is a #$%^&, ain't it?

This happened a number of years ago and I would never give up a name like that, no matter what. Fortunately, I haven't seen him play on any tour for a while. Why would I continue to play? Because I was mad as hell and since I was beating him before I felt I would continue. Unfortunately, my anger kept that from happening. I was a young man and really didn't know how to react to the situation.

The thread was based on what happens when or if you get screwed on a match or game, not to start naming names.

I dont mean to jack the thread here but there is something I would like to know. How long ago was this ? I have never heard of a millitary champoinship over here.....was it run by MWR or something?

Very simple. If you are the house player against the roadman and his buddies, all you have to do is tell the person with a key to the camera room rewind the tape from just a few minutes ago, and bingo, either they fess up with the truth, or they pull out a gun and demand all the posted money back. I've never heard of a move like that before, however.

Yup.. MWR-run championship. MWR often doesn't do a very good job of advertising the big pool events. It was a big deal, multiple trophies, and players came from Mannheim, Kaiserslautern, Heidelberg, and a few other military posts within an hour of Mannheim. This was back in 1998 or so.

The USAREUR (All Europe Military) Championshp was held in some bumf**k little Infantry post in Bamberg THREE HOURS from Mannheim. And when I got there, they literally had horsehair on the tables, the nap was so long. A good shooter who was local to that area ended up winning it. He was good, but not great. I never could get used to the cloth.

You know the nap is bad on a table when you can HEAR the ball rolling across the felt.:mad:

NOW, the thread in my mind, is about you letting a scumbag of a player take advantage of AZ'ers in future tournaments because you won't out him as a scumbag.

Hey, I got a lot of positive rep for the above post. A LOT of people on here think you should either not tell the story, or tell the WHOLE story.

If you feel okay with the fact that in the future, players from the board may play this pro and get taken just because the guy is a "name" player, then let that rest on your conscience.

A lot of people on here may get the chance to play a name pro and beat him ONCEin their lives, and because you don't want to "name names", they may be deprived of that opportunity.

Like I said, if you think you are doing the right thing....Whatever..

I've just tried to relate an experience I had.

Umm.. I never said you were depriving anyone of the opportunity to play a name pro. I said "play and beat a name pro"..

Engrish is good. It allows us to fully express fine distinctions in meaning. :D

If one of the members of the forum ever gets to play this unnamed pro, and does not have the knowledge that he is a total scumbag, he/she might be in a situation where noone is watching the match except for the pro's buddies. Now, if the pro pulls some shady sh** like he did on you, our hypothetical forum member gets screwed out of his chance to play and beat a named pro.

If you did the right thing, they could make sure a few people are watching the match, and the pro has no chance for shadiness.. Get it????:confused:

Me personally, if anyone ever screws me over, I make sure the world knows about it. I don't want the barstard getting over on anyone else. I don't see it as "taking shots" at the pro in question. His behavior earned him every bit of distain he will recieve. If I failed to warn someone who then got taken advantage of, then morally, that falls squarely on me.

I only got one question. What was the name of the girl who stiffed you out of a game so some poor unsuspecting AZ'er doesn't get stiffed in the future?

After all, she might turn pro one day.

It was nearly 10 years ago.. The only person's name I remembered from that tournament was the winner's..:D

Though if I remembered, I surely would let you all know.
