What's the best rack out there, and where can I get it?

AZ's own Cuaba has graciously agreed to bring me a rack out to Thailand when he visits next month, but I don't know which one to get or where to order it.

I want something high-quality (up to $100) that is guaranteed not to warp/crack/spontaneously combust for several years as it's a pain to get decent stuff to my part of the world.

Wood/composite/whatever is fine, I just want it to do the job and last.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I like Diamond's rack the best. And you can get that right here in the good ol' US.

I plan to see him in the Phillipines in November- I'll ask him what he uses.;)

At which dealer?
I would contact Diamond Billiards directly. I would guess that they can sell an individual table rack but don't know that for sure. I don't see it on their website.

I second the suggestion of a Diamond rack. Absolutely the best. They are probably in the $60-$70 range.

Might be problematic without a dealer other than Diamond, and since I'm getting some help from another AZ member on this, I don't wanna cause any undo hassle- the only balls I wanna break will be in the rack, know what I mean?:D

To practice breaking (9-ball,or 8-ball) ?

of course you guys just meant to rack balls. Some players use the practice racks. So they can just brake the rack and brake the rack with out chasing balls. But its exercise to chase the balls. And you can count how many you make. These break racks are expensive too. Also remember in the regular racks all corners are not the same. try racking with all 3 of the corners. Wooden have always seemed superior. mark

I just looked at the diamond site and they DON'T have their racks listed. I know that they used to sell them individually, but maybe they stopped? I would send an email anyway, if I were you. They might be flexible about it. They want to help pool players.

I have a Spanilli, I looked over 200 triangles to find one that would freeze new balls on all 6 positions 3 up/3 down mine is good 5/6 ways, the tollarances to get that are hard to get, it took me along time to find it, i knew what i wanted and went looking all over LA at different billiard supply stores, it took over a month, i have had it for 7 8 years and its perfect still, it was worht the effort, when I try a old set of balls in it then it dosent work perfectly-with new balls everything is frozen to everything, some racks, infact most racks there isnt one good side.

Is that the company that makes the batman bridgehead? I didn't know they made other stuff, too. Interesting.

3 up/3 down? Am I just having a brainfart? I can't figure out what you mean.

The Ambassador Rack

Check it out:

http://www.fastlarrypool.com/mjn/os...id=64&osCsid=4e93bf69e38b2ab2e9467de193da84e4

From that page:

"This is truly the best rack ever made. It is very thick and sturdy with
strong finger joint design. It will probably outlive you. The best rack
before was made by Diamond which came out a decade ago. The ambassador
is like it but it better made and its design is superior. It racks the
balls super tight with no gaps. They are made in California with 31
years of wood working experience. They have state of the art machinery
and real craftsmen using the finest woods to put your rack together.
This manufacturer is a BCA member and exhibits at the BCA trade show."

"You design your personal rack:

Tell us 15 or 9 ball rack price is the same on both (34.99)

Maple or Oak wood

The color or finish can be natural, light, medium or dark."

"We can now add any name you want on one, two or all three sides. This is
a deep computer laser burn and it looks stunning. You can have the name
of your pool hall or business. Put your nickname or handle on it. Put
your pals name on and give it as a gift he will never forget. Ladies
order one for your husband. Dads get one for your son.

To laser a name on one side add $3.00 to the above prices, two sides
$6.00, three sides $9.00 extra. Use the comments box when placing your order to specify the wording."

BTW, I've seen and used this rack. It's the nuts.

I've never tried this rack, but it has two strikes against it already in my book. First, it is associated with Fast Larry, and second, they make a nineball rack, which is a totally useless idea. I'm just sayin'...
