Whats the largest pool hall in the world and how many tables?

CueNCushion most likely knows the exact numbers but here in St Louis the biggest pool hall is located at a local high school--St Louis University High. I have a friend that went to school there. He told me they had 80 tables in the basement, now down to 50-60 he thinks. My friend told me that during recess or after school, they would all be full.

I remember a place in Las Vegas. I thought it was called Lion's Den or something like that. Supposed to have 120 tables. Maybe it was just a myth. But I also heard they went under. Anyone from Las Vegas come here? Tell us about it!

thats true i went into it a couple times i think 105 is how many tables and they had room for more, they didnt know what they were doing and the parking lot wasnt big enough it was on flamingo and maryland

First off you need to know your area. How big is Pool in your area? Are there overcrowded poolhalls now? If so how overcrowded and what are the waits?

Personally I think you need to start off with a smaller place that could have the potential to expand. Or if needed move to another place not to far away from your place and make a bigger one.

I think starting off smaller would be your best option.

I have heard from SLU students that come in that there are 75 tables...I always think they are exaggerating though. You know how kids are! But I have also heard the tables are in horrible shape. I would like to see for myself sometime. Just to confirm or deny the rumours.

The Lion's Den in Las Vegas was located on Flamingo Road between Maryland Parkway and Eastern Avenue. It seems like it closed about 10 years ago. At the time it was open it was advertised as the largest pool room in the world. I was huge...........nice clean place, good parking with well maintained tables and sticks. I never really heard why it closed. Not much info.....but it's all I got.

I used to help run the place, maintain the tables, do the cue work, run tournament and leagues. Unfortunately, the 3 partners had to part ways for reasons I can't devulge.

Huh? I had people waiting for tables 4nights out of 7. It unfortunately gotten to a point where the 21 year old partner (inherited $40+M from grandpa), who brought me in, was confident that the place can run on auto-plot or through cellular that he was pulling me out by 10 pm to party with him and other friends at The Drink or Olympic Gardens and play $2k/hands BJ at Hardrock.

Is this forum only for room owners? If so, I apologize for posting here.

One of my favorites pool halls was Pinkies in Westminster, CO. It is now out of business. It had 66 pool tables with pink, yes I said pink felt on 65 of the pool tables and one with the Denver Broncos colors (blue on the slate and orange rails). You could rent pink cues for $1.00 per hour. The walls were all painted black with neon posters and such on the walls. It was open from the middle 80's till 2006. I had some good times there when I flew into town to visit family once a year at xmas.

I visited the Lions Den in I BELIEVE '94. I wanna say it was november or december. The place was HUGE and the place was EMPTY! I took a cab from the Mirage and the cab driver came inside with me and we ended up playing some cheap 9ball. We were the ONLY ones in the place, it seemed almost TOO big. I do remember that goofy Z shaped pool table.

I'm not sure about in the world but the largest pool room that I know of is Q Master in Virginia Beach Va it has 75 tables and is one of the best pool rooms I've ever seen

Number of tables: I believe we (Fargo Billiards) are third in the US

(1) QMaster - VA Beach (72)
(2) Shooters -Burnsville MN (64)
(3) Fargo Billiards (58)

But I believe we are the largest by area in North & South America (28,532 sf)

The place in Jakarta was already mentioned. I recall also a place in St Petersburg with 100+ tables

FWIW, the word surrender has french roots.

In the Philippines the largest pool hall we have is Starbilliards which has 42 brunswick tables, and you PLAY FOR FREE as long as you're a member. To be a member, you should know how to play pool, that's a requirement. no fees or what so ever, you just go there and play.

I believe it's owned by a wealthy businessman, Sebastian “Baste” Chua, who basically just loves pool. He's not in it for the money. He's a patron of the arts - the cueing arts that is.

Star billiards has a ustream channel, and I have seen some good play there, including a woman pro at least once. Have not seen any of the "name" players on the stream though.

I have bad knees. How tall is each step? 5 steps up to the second floor sounds like they are high. Have the good tables that i want to play on down on the first floor please.

No you don't want to play the tables on the first floor, riser heights for a commercial bld. are typically 7-1/4" so at 5 treads that would put the 2nd floor 36 1/4" above the first.... tables may fit ( depends on 2nd floor mat.) but there won't be much head room :grin:

If you can't see every inch of the pool room your are going to have problems. Two floors, you better have excellent security. I was told by a hall of Famer that the Lions Den went out of business becasue there was too much happening in the shadows.
