What's the most $$ you've played for?

You give me 9 on the way to 10 and name your price.

Drew, dude, the way you worded the first proposition, that 9 on the wire to 10 was just for one pocket and straight pool. The first line was for 8 ball or 9 ball. At least that's the way it read to me. Are you saying you want to play the guy even 8 ball or 9 ball, and don't care to play the other two games or was the entire post just a gag?

I'd call that tough action. :)

Drew, do I know you? I converge on Sticks every so often. Down to visit my family. I've play Richard down there occasionally, as well as Mario...whomever.

$100 per rack 9-ball on a bar table.

To be honest, you couldn't have driven a straight-pin up my butt with a sledgehammer I was so nervous.

Oh wow...what's up Doug? Didn't even realize it was you. Man I haven't seen you in awhile.

Don't get down as often as I would like...stuck up here in Boulder. Seems when I'm there, nobody is around. How's your game coming?

Regards,

Doug

Oh you're gonna have to come down and play. I took the english out of my game about a month ago. For some reason, I can't miss anymore. Mario and Dennis are still around. They're giving me 2 games to 7 or 8 these days. I'm always around, especially on the weekends.

Was actually called "Capitol Social Club"...and was in Oak Park...across the street from Stanley Steamers.

It was a gag...I don't expect anyone to give me those spots. But in case you want to try, here's what I meant.

9 on the wire to 10= 8-ball or 9-ball
9 on the wire to 10 and 13-3= One Pocket
145 points race to 150= 14.1

I'll even play snooker with a century spot.

PROG8R - I don't play good. At all. I'll be at some of the 10 ball stops, but probably won't be playing in any of them because it'd just be a donation. I stink. I'm a favorite to NOT run 3 balls from any given place at any given time in any given game... We could meet up, I would want to start out with the following spots
9-ball: 2 games, and the hand-span going to 10
8-ball: breaks, ball in hand after break, and the hand span everytime after you don't pocket a ball.
1pocket: the hand span and 9-7
banks: 5-1
I won't bet too high, but we can work something out ;)

TheBigHurt - Rob, don't make fun of Beyond. They may not gamble, but they sure as hell do take league serious.. and I think I got someone to play for $2 a game one time... lol

Drew, me and you would match up GOOD.. we probably wouldn't play any - but we'd go back and fourth for a good while asking for some ridiculous spots. I'll take the 7, breaks, and ball in hand after the breaks in asking for weight.

Oh I know...but I'd rather bark a good game than play a good game. I definitely have seen woof sessions go on for hours and the set takes 10 minutes.

A lot of those league players are willing to gamble a little. You just have to push it enough. Play their rules, apa players will only play apa rules. And they'll usually only play the bar boxes. But hey, $40 on a toy is just as good as $40 on a real table.

I never answered the original question. Played in some mexican dive bar one night. We played last pocket 8-ball.
Game 1: $50
Game 2: $100
Game 3: $100
Game 4: $200
Game 5: $400
Game 6: $800

My backers picked up every side bet in the room as well so the last game was closer to 1100. The guy I was playing kept trying to get even so we doubled the bet every game...I guess he had to win one right? And I told myself before the last game that it would be the last game and I'd take my cut and walk out of the room. Of course that's the game I had to lose.

I must say, seeing 2+ grand sitting on the table was almost intoxicating. Fortunately, I didn't kill the action and it's still there waiting while I build up about 1500 or so to go back. I figure we'll start at 300 a game next time.

So many guys that are proud of the fact that they DONT bet. If you asked me they are self-conscious about it and need daily affirmation that it's okay not to gamble and still be a "serious pool player" .

In my case you'd be wrong. I am not in any way self-conscious about my not gambling and I don't need daily affirmation that it's OK. I am quite comfortable with it all.

To each their own but just don't act like gamblers are fools.

Some are, some aren't, just like everything else ... we read the stories here regularly and it sure seems that 'the other guy' is often a fool.

100 a game 1hole - not good
400 race to 9, 9-ball - won one set and they pulled up

Ok, My biggest bet on myself was $1,000 a game One Pocket. I've played that high a few times. And $500 a game many times.

I've staked games as high as 10K.

I played a guy on this proposition shot. Took a object ball and put it inside the jaws frozen to the rail in a corner pocket on the end rail. Took another object ball and froze it to the middle of the end rail. Had to four rail the object ball frozen in the middle of the rail around the table and make it past the ball frozen inside the pocket. Before you ask, this was on a 9 footer with bucket pockets.

Started out at $5 a shot and it escalated after about 2 hours to $500 a shot.

Ended $2700 up after about 3 hours. It was the first and only time I ever got this guy to the table. Missed the opportunity to rob him as this was just pocket change to him.

When I was out on the road in the mid 80's, I played a few $1000 sets and a bunch of $500 sets. Didn't play enough sets for a grand for this to really be in my comfort zone even though I only lost one set for that amount.

My biggest scores happened rarely in poolrooms but in bars by starting out with cheap games or sets and the other guy getting mad about losing and trying to highroll me.

Money Games

This was good action...And probably the fastest action I ever seen..I played a guy 2500 game 9ball/ 6ball on a bar table. Pay off after every game. We got tired of counting so we built stacks of 2500s. So if I won I would just go get a stack and if he won he would come get a stack. 3 thousand a game 1 pocket, probably highest one pocket game. Ive played race to 3 for 6500 9 ball bar table. Ive won over 10000 several times. It seems unrealistic but its funny how you get cought up in this and how used to it it becomes. Ask Lil John....

Looks like you found a nice girlfriend there. Good job!

I actually didn't meet her in Vietnam. Vacationed in Saigon (HCMC) with a buddy back in '04 - before she and I met. Anyway, my GF is a filipina. She's originally from the beautiful island of Palawan, and I might add is quite an accomplished player :D

The most I've played for was $1500 a game 1-hole. It started out at $50 a game, and slowly escalated over the 13 hour long set. The most I've ever started it off at is $300 a game.

My biggest score for a single session was at a bar playing bar-box 8-ball. It started out playing for a round of drinks, and escalated to $500 a game after a couple of hours. It got pretty nasty, and I had to dodge a swinging pool cue on the way out the door. I think I might have been in trouble if I had been there alone. I don't play much in bars anymore because I don't have that talent to take the money and leave everyone smiling at the end.
