What's the most $$ you've played for?

> Exactly one 1000 dollar set, race to 9,giving the guy the 8 after beating him pretty handily with the last 2,winning 200 at 20 a game. He said if I have him the 8,he'd play a race to 9 for a thou,so I told him to send it in. I don't know why,but even as nervous as I was betting everything I had save for a couple 20's,I still caught one of the highest gears of my life, beating him 9-2. After he broke and ran the first 2 racks,he scratched, and kicked 2 times the rest of the set, never pocketing a single ball after the scratch. Other than that, most of my gambling as been 100-200 dollar sets,or even cheaper. Playing by the game,I've only had the cash to be comfortable betting 100 a game a few times, winning 5-600 a few times. I have turned a small per-game bet into several hundred many times. I was goofing off in a younger-crowd nightclub once that had a couple bar boxes, and found myself playing this obvious "thug" type for a beer a game, and lost 3 games, and he asked if I wanted to play for 50. I had my cues with me,so I went out and got my Joss SP,not wanting to flash my Schon. I beat him out of 800,and he pays off. About an hour later,he comes in the bathroom behind me,and offers me a deal. He said the money he lost was his capital to "re-up",or buy product to turn into crack basically, and needed 300 of what I won back. In return,he was offering a 10mm 14k herringbone bracelet and chain,a 8mm 14k solid rope chain, and a gold nugget style Seiko. I jumped all over that, and sold the jewelry for close to 1300. I've turned 5-10 a game action into 4-500 as well. The nittiest action ever for me was giving a guy the 8 for 2 dollars a game, and won 72 games in 7 hours. The table time was only 10 bucks each. He was the only guy around willing to play, and I was dying for competition of any kind. The same place used to have a nightly ring-game that was only a dollar a man,but up to 6-handed,making 100 or more in a night wasn't much of a problem. Tommy D.

Jude,

NYC has nitty players?????? say it aint so  lol

the most I've won in one time, was 200$, this guy comes upto me saying we can play even up for 25 a set, or 30 and i get 1game on the wire or 60 a set and i get the 8ball lol.
I seriously did the WTF LOL cuz about a month before this he comes in braggin how he wants to play me for 40 a set on a 9ft even. I jumped on that, but when time came he's like well lets just play for TT or 10 a set lol.
So, the next day, we go to play and post up 100$ race to 7, whom ever gets up 3 sets wins. Well i smoked him 6 sets in a row lol. And he still wanted to gamble lol, I was like, dude keep your money, cuz, I kinda felt bad for the guy cuz, every set but the first one, i beat him 7-1 or 7-2.
It was almost too easy. Even one of the top shooters asked why i wasnt giving him weight, and i told him, he wanted to play even, or give me weight lol so why should I give him weight.

But on the flip side, lol seriously havent won shyt since then lol, so I've probably lost back the 200$ and then some. And as of last weekend, completely stopped gambling.
Reason being, in my area, everyone wants massive weight, or they want to gamble for atleast 50$ sets, when I'm not going to gamble for that much.
And nobody wants to gamble at anything but 9ball.

I'm a horrible gambler but I have a nack for getting great players to play me very cheap!....maybe they just feel sorry for me?!:)

Hey! Whats up? How is it going? It is still my all time best pool trip just for the laughs alone.
Not much, man...how you doing? Anymore road trips? The trip to AZ had to be good for a few chuckles. I'd sure loved to have seen the League Shirt Routine you used on Frost!

Heading to Valley Forge?

Take care,

Steve

What's the most $$ I've played for? I'll let you know, soon as dogginda9 shows up in Denver. :D

I've been known to LOSE thousands at a time if you give me the right weight. If you wanna give me 9 on the way to 10, I may lose a few grand to you too. I'm only about 40 minutes away so let me know.

This is an open invitation to anyone who wants to play some 9-ball or 8-ball. If we play 1-hole, I need 9 on the way to 10 and 13-3. If we play straight pool I need 145 race to 150. Believe me, I will bet the farm, cattle, and slaves if anyone wants to try me out.

Edit: I played Fast Larry once for 30 grand but he let me off for a dollar after I won the first game.

Worth The Trip

come on i laughed out loud after i wrote this. oh yeah the most i've ever played for is 100 bucks. i'm poor and don't play for what i can't afford to lose

So many guys that are proud of the fact that they DONT bet. If you asked me they are self-conscious about it and need daily affirmation that it's okay not to gamble and still be a "serious pool player"

To each their own but just don't act like gamblers are fools.

I'd always played for 20-50 a set but just a while ago a guy that I've known was getting on my friend for quitting after winning his $100 back and he yelled to my friend, "I'll play you for $500"

I commented and he said to me, "I'll play you for $500 and I'll give you the 7!"

I said, "You'll give me the 7?"

he said, "Yeah it's tempting ain't it?"

A room full of league player were silently listening. I said, "I'll take that bet but you have to show me the money first."

He got his money and counted it out and I got mine out of the atm and when I got far enough ahead in the set I offered to take $300 if he quit now and he did.

I'll never forget that feeling of adrenaline and I have been practicing harder than ever and gambling more for $50 sets with other guys and I'm really getting significantly better cause I know if I don't I'm gonna lose $.

My point is gambling is worth it even if you lose if you are serious about improving your game and making a name for yourself.

You never know...

I was shooting pool in Los Angeles and guy in his 30's came up and asked me if I wanted to play. I said sure. He said for what? I thought he seemed like a nice guy and was looking for a social game, so I said how about a race to 9 for $50? This, in my mind, is a cheap, friendly bet, but it's sporting enough and will cover the table time, etc.

Anyway, we get started and he is obviously a good player but he's shaking like a leaf. He nervously started talking and said "nobody around here ever plays for this kind of money, so I'm really nervous".

I then got concerned that maybe there was a misunderstanding, so I said "we're playing for $50 a set, right?" thinking maybe he thought it was $50 a game or something.

He says "they play for $5 to $10 a set, so I'm not used to playing for $50".

So you never know. He considered that real gambling. It's all relative.

Wow $5 a set...I wonder, did anyone sweat this $50 action?

This guy posted 100 up for my meuci sneaky pete in a race to 7 playing even when i was 16. I lost 7-6. Still wish i had that cue for sentimental value. Great life lesson though.

Drew, I'm easily confused, so I'll apologize for this dumb question. What are you proposing?
