What's the proper etiquic?

I recently befriended a new pool playing buddy. I met him when he became a permanent sub in league for another team. I noticed when we played him the CB was 1/4" away from the OB. He was going to shoot straight on. So I warned him of the double hit. Yes the allusive double hit that people don't seem to think happens. Well since it was league it was easy to tell (or warn rather) that he has to hit off to the side to avoid this. He agreed and ended losing that game.

Well I played pool at his house and several times this situation came up. But this time I never said anything. We weren't playing for anything, just fun. But I played a safety to (14:1) to keep him locked up and he ended up making a combo carom kiss yadda yadda into the side. But he pushed through the shot and definitely double kissed the CB. But most never realize they are doing this. I see people do these shots all the time at bars and I never say then. But this is Straight pool (or whatever we're playing) with rules unlike a bar box 8ball game.

How does one approach this?

Third party the blame too your "pool league" tell em thats the way they play (explain why if he asks) and you avoid being the bad guy, but if it was someone I wanted to be friends with I would by no means patronize that relationship. Also, if you don't bring this too his attention, you know this situation WILL come up again, and he may 'blame' you for losing...and a friendship is at risk. I got a good laugh when you were wondering about anothers proper etiquette, I was more concerned about proper spelling (etiquic) :grin-square:

PS: if you google etiquic, your the #1 thread on the WWW

First, learn to spell"etiquette"
Then, research the subject. This will be discouraging because you will find that there ain't none. There might have been at one time in certain places. There might even be some today in certain places, but there ain't none in the ordinary pool hall. They never heard the word.

You know I wasn't sure how to spell etiquette and I use Firefox that has a built in spell check. But the "intentionally close picks" I had came up dry. So I did a GOOGLE search and the word I was using came back with "etiquic".

Now we all know.

Now we also know that you are in Milwaukee and I am in Racine, separated by just a few miles. Wouldn't it be neat if we could shoot some pool together some time?

BRING IT...! LOL I always am up for games!. Where was AZ for me like 5 years ago....I mean it was here....but I wasn't. Now that I am married and settled down it's tough to play when I want like when I was in my twenties. It's funny 3 years ago when I joined AZ there weren't many WI folks now there coming out of the woodwork When I took a training course in SLC Utah I met up with an AZer he introduced me to several people at the pool hall. He always referred to me as "I met him on AZ" I was never able to say that here in WI. Now that it's getting the exposer it deserves I don't feel weird telling friends about it. True pool die hards will love a site like this.

You have a place you like to play. My table is nice, very tight pockets only 8ft and lacks use. But it's in a unfinished basement, and there is a pole (FOR NOW) in the way like 26" away from one side. Also since this is the internet public places are the best meeting place.

I have never played any other places in WI other then Romines all the time, I'll be there tomorrow as a matter of fact. Master Z's Cue Club (old Sharky's) and the Varsity club in Oshkosh. Many bars, my favorite in Steve's On Bluemound for pool. But those days are in the past.

Talk to you later.

I believe the proper etiquic is spelled the as etiquette
A day late and a dollar short my friend; everyone else has got me on that and it's too late to edit title.

If you see he is about to do it warn him. People are much more receptive if you tell them that are going to foul rather than if you call foul when they weren't aware that there was one.

the joke is on me now :sorry: lol

but about the topic...I guess I would tell him the first couple of times that what he is doing is a foul...just to educate him..then tell him next set you are going to enforce the rule.

Be honest and straight forward with him and remind/explain to him in an adult way...Good luck:)
