What's the proper way to put pocket chalker in your pocket?

Chalk first or stick first with the chalk hanging out? I've seen both and it's bugging me wondering what the makers intended to go in first lol Stupid, I know

At first I thought you were joking. The little stick goes in your pocket. The whole point of the stick is to let you carry the chalk cube outside your clothing, so that you don't get your pocket full of chalk dust.

I've seen these used plenty of times--never seen anyone put the chalk end into their pocket.

Seriously, here's my technique - stick side goes in pocket:

1. Chalk cue

2. Put in pocket

3. Find chalker on floor

4. Chalk cue

5. Repeat

Are pocket chalkers an import from Europe/snooker, where it is considered bad manners to ever place chalk on the table?

I generally grab either the stick or leather tab based on what type you have between my thumb and index finger and push said tab or stick straight down into my rear pocket. Is there another way?

Inserting the stick in the wrong... umm... "aperture" back there? J/K!!

Seriously, I'd used one of those pocket chalkers for years. I have the CueTec one that looks like the first six inches of a cue shaft (with tip and ferrule), and has the Tip-Pik built-in:

The problem I had with this one, is having it "gloss by" the edge of my rear pocket -- while trying to blindly insert it into my rear pocket, it wouldn't catch the lip of the pocket, and I'd have to finagle a bit to get it to "catch" and slide into the pocket.

One of those "bullet" chalkers -- with the replica of a .308 Winchester rifle cartridge, like this one:

...would've been better, because the bullet's "point" would catch the edge of the pocket a lot easier than the dull/blunt end of the CueTec's pool cue replica.

However, the issue is now moot, because I find *this* chalker to be a lot easier and quicker to use:

What's nice about this one, is that the little metal clamp that goes on the chalk cube itself, has a low profile, so you can wear your cube of chalk down really low -- past half-way -- before the metal clamp itself starts to rise above the height of the sides of the cube.

The other [pocket] chalkers shown above, have a little plastic cup for the cube of chalk that gets in the way once you start wearing the cube down past, say, an eighth of an inch of the original height.

All of this, of course, assumes you're chalking correctly by swiping the chalk on the tip, and not drilling a hole in it.

Hope this is helpful!

For player that find it difficult to figure out the modern day pocket chalker I recommend the "snake type" pocket chalker.
For the more sophisticated player using Kamui chalk, I recommend the retractable type.

Here are a few examples including the high tech combination pocket chalker-tip-pik by Cuetec.

pants

At GAP, buy very expensive Cargo Pants.
6 sets, one for every day except the day of rest.
Take Cargo pants to local cleaners w/Chinese woman who does alterations.
Have pockets lined with water proof material.
Install chalk.
Return to dry cleaners for cleaning.

I decided to find a different solution to chalk holders after nearly putting out my eye with a Pocket Chalker. (don't ask)

I settled on a snooker style chalk pouch. It clips on my waist band just above my back pocket. Same motion to access and replace chalk as I'd been used to with the pocket chalker.

I'm old and don't care what others may think or say about my solution.

Only ever lose the chalk when doing my happy dance after a three ball run-out for the win.

I've been using a pocket chalker with a tip tapper and have just ordered a replacement because the tapper has caused a hole in my pocket:angry:

The new one won't have a tapper.

The VERY BEST Chalk holder is under development by JB Cases as we speak in John's Secret Labratory!

Pete,

Wow, sounds like you were close to being an episode on "1000 Ways to Die".

By the way, for the safety of our reader's, I strongly recommend removing the gunpower from the .50 caliber bullet before soldering it to the chalk holder. Better yet, use something that doesn't explode.
