Whats the rule here ???

I was playing in a 8 ball tounry after a long layoff, It was my turn at the table and i used my ball to kick in the other shooters ball in the pocket and leaving my ball infront of the pocket. When i was stroking i hit my ball and moved his ball that was next to mine he calls ball in hand and and grabs the cueball i then told him that its not ball in hand the ball that is moved just gets spotted.

We tried to find the ruling on it in the Bca rules so we just re-racked and played the game over.

BY Bca rules would it of been ball in hand or just object ball that was touched re-spotted ?

And can someone point me to the exact rule that covers this ????
 
if u move 2 or more balls its a foul...............
if u move 1 ball both players have to agree where to put it...........
also seen another rule where if u hit a ball an it crosses the paths of any balls in motion its a foul... but if not both players agree where to put it
 
You said you were playing a tournament, not in league, but you were asking about the BCA rules so I'm not sure if you meant the BCAPL rules or the Billiard Congress rules (which are essentially the World Rules)

For the BCA Pool League, it was probably not a foul (see affecting the outcome of a shot). The opponent would have the option of leaving the disturbed ball in position or having it restored to its original spot. This is rule #1.33 for "Disturbed Balls" found in the general rules on page 28 of the rule book:

For the World Rules (WPA) it depends if you are playing all ball fouls. Assuming you are not then once again, it is probably not a foul if there was no affect on the outcome of the shot. This would be governed by #20 of the regulations under "Cue Ball Fouls Only":

20. Cue ball fouls only
If there is no referee presiding over a match, it may be played using cue ball fouls only. That is, touching or moving any ball other than the cue ball would not be a foul unless it changes the outcome of the shot by either touching another ball or having any ball, including the cue ball, going through the area originally occupied by the moved ball. If this does not happen, then the opposing player must be given the option of either leaving the ball where it lies or replacing the ball as near as possible to its original position to the agreement of both players. If a player shoots without giving his opponent the option to replace, it will be a foul resulting in cue ball in hand for the opponent.

No matter what rules you are playing, you can't call BIH and then pick up the cue ball. You have to acknowledge the foul before your opponent can legally pick up the ball.

Good point Blue Hog. Always ask opp if you indeed have BIH. Otherwise you may be committing a foul. IMO if ball was moved by body parts or clothing and was accidental and didn't change the table, it is up to opp to leave or move back. His call. More than one ball moved, especially clusters, should be BIH. Common sense is huge in any scenario!
 
It was not leauge Just a pool tourny with BCA Rules. That was one of the reasons for a re-rack becuse he picked up the cb before he even said anything. Thats when i was like wait a minute .

Right, I understood it was a tournament. I was just a bit uncertain if by BCA rules you meant Billiard Congress of America or the BCA Pool League. The reason for my uncertainty is that while the BCAPL does indeed have its own rule book the Billiard Congress essentially has adopted the WPA World Rules. If you download the rules from the Billiard Congress website you will find they are on WPA letterhead.

Anyway, glad we were able to supply you with the info.
