What's your BEST "playing" cue - the one you take to the pool hall

A nice *simple* Full-Splice Ebony into Birdseye Maple from an austrian cuemaker (Cloria Cues by Silvio Zuglec) and friend. Including Extension etc. He sent it without that i knew it, lol.
Played the first shots and my WC (McDaniel Shop) Cue is in the case since then.

Did u mean Silvio Žugec ? :)

I play with all of my cues, but i'll admit the most expensive cue of the bunch gets the least amount of play. I like to switch between them and since I use Predator 314-2 shafts the play is similar with all of them. I do have one cue that gets the most play and it's a Bob Runde ebony on ebony cue.

I never did understand buying a cue and never playing with it. Or buying your dream car and just parking it in a shed/garage. It really makes no sense to me, I mean, where is the fun in just putting something on the wall?

Maybe I'm to young to understand, just my opinion. Why buy it, if your not going to USE it?

Kevin Varney Cues for Me

My player is a boco/maple 4 pt. sneaky by Kevin Varney with a 1st generation Predator shaft that I had Ryan at Muellers (Rat Cues) convert from a uniloc to a 3/8x10. He did an exceptional job mating the shaft to the butt and matching the ring. My break/jump is also a Varney. Its a 4 point purple heart/maple and jumps easier and better than any other I've owned. I just retired Oct.1 and play with these cues everyday. They are the best playing cues I've ever owned. I just bought a Whitten 2x4 to carry them in. I've owned Southwests, a Szamboti, Bluegrass, and bunches of different production cues. The 2 Varneys I play with everyday are by far the best playing cues period.

I play with all of them at home, but just got a new Jim Pierce that I bring to the pool room. I typically have a Carmeli with me along with my Jacoby break cue. I have a couple cues loaded with inlays that I typically do not use, but one of them, a Mike Lambros, gets a fair amount of playing time at home. It is too nice to leave wrapped up.

1996 Danny Stout.
Picked the beautiful piece of birdseye for the forearm and Danny added 8 ebony points, a cocobola butt with some mother of pearl inlays and a sexy Irish linen wrap.

I have yet to see another Stout configured alike.

I popped a tiger x shaft on there and you couldn't pry that sucker from my hands with a crowbar!

I switch between two cues depending on what game I'm playing and the table conditions. For rotation games on a 9 foot table I use my Predator 2K5. For all other games I use an Ariel Carmelli Merry Widow that hits a ton. My jump/break cue is a Jacoby Edge.

OZI cue

I have several cues from local cue makers I have used for years buy I now use an OZI cue from a cue maker in Louisiana

I take a Keith Hanssen Custom cue. Just a pretty basic cue with no wrap or inlays. Its made out of Indian Rosewood. It has a milk dud tip clipped way down. Weights 16.5 oz. It is the best playing cue I have ever shot with.

Steve, thank you so much for the kind words...I'm very happy you are pleased with my work. Coming from such as strong player as yourself, thats as fine an endorsement as a cuemaker could ever ask for. Thank you very much. I hope you & your family have a wonderful Christmas! :)

I play with my Schon stl 7 with a OB 1 shaft all the time. I have a Phillipi sneaky that I don't shoot with much only because I feel like the regular shaft throws me off when i go back to the Schon.

My cue is guesstimated to be in about the $6,000-$7000 range give or take given the gold inlays, the hand carved silver celtic knotwork rings, and the 3 birdeye maple shafts with two having ebony points. I shoot with it in pool halls all over the city and it is the cue that comes with me to Vegas or any other out of town event.

I have the ebony SW in my avitar that I would love to be able to take but the most notorious cue thief in the parts has his eye on it,he's not bashful,he told me a few weeks ago that if he knew where I lived he would break into my house and steal it.

Luckily your port-o-let is always on the move:thumbup:

I take my Carolina Custom, roughly $1300...

Occasionally, I can't resist taking my trusty ole Schon SL17 ($1400).
Schon full.jpg

They both just hit so well, I can't resist. I buy cues to play with!

Best playing cue

I don't have any high end cues to mention. I think my best playing cues is a Nick Varner and a action inlay series. Both of those play great.
The butt dia. is just a tad larger than some of the newer cues. They have more of the old school feel. take care, john

After I replyed started thinking about the cues that play good. Out of about 40 cues there are at least 5 that play very good and have that old school feel that I like. I had to take a picture and do a down load
to add pic. to my repost or quote cue on left is an older joss I have had
10 years or so, next three are Nick Varner and far right is the action inlay
series all of these cues when I pick any one up I don't want to lay it down.

I ordered a very fancy Carmeli from Ariel which I'm still waiting on :-)
...3 days after ordering it, I called him and ordered another, a plain ebony player that would have the same exact hit, weight, and feel cause I realized that the cue would make me crazy if it took a fall in a bar, LOL

tired of waiting...I bought a Mike Bender cue used, WOW that cue plays sweet and since it's used and not perfect, I don't mind bringing it to the bar!!!

Guess I'll sell the plain Carmeli when I get it in march :-)

My advice, if you are worried about it, buy used, it helps lighten the worries since virtually no cue is perfect after being played-the first ding is the hardest one to take !!!
