What's your favorite game and why?

In order.......
9 ball for "long game" position play. 14.1 for touch and optimum patterns. One pocket for thinking and creativity. And 8 ball for basic pattern play and clusters.
Then theres 3 ball for $50-100 bucks a night......... :D

I enjoy playing all of the games. I would say that my best game is probably 8 ball, but that's just because I play it in league most of the time. I think that each game challenges you to learn different skills which allow you to become a more complete player. When I'm shooting with someone, I generally don't care what we're playing, as long as we're shooting.

Straight n Eight!

I love straight pool ! theres no bs no luck only good shooting and position play! Since there are few straight shooters here are ever around I tend to mostly play eight ball APA style! but when I am not in league we play no slop and call everything ! :p

I love 1P first followed by 14.1 and then banks...I love to play 9 when warming up for a match...

ML,

I'm just curious. When you play no slop and call everything, what is the penalty for a slop shot? Do you pull the ball (when possible)? Do you take ball-in-hand or shoot from where the cb stops? What variation of these penalties do you usually apply? I wonder what is the most universal method of these applications? Just curious. I have actually played where the incoming player gets ball-in-hand (slopped-in balls stay down) but must shoot from behind the head string at balls on the other side of the head string. This in itself can be a penalty to the incoming player. It would probably make for an interesting posting topic to see how it is done in different bars/poolrooms.

Fav. Billiard games

Pocket [In order from best to least] - 9 ball (for a one-on-one battle), one pocket (as a chess strategy style of billiards), 14.1 (for consistancy) & 8 ball (because I've played this stupid game throughout all my life, that it's just too much of tradition to even stop playing it)

Carom (this game is just mainly for relaxation and mentality) [no particular order] - Straight Rail, Baulkline (mainly 14in or 18in, single or deuces), 1-cushion, and 3-cushion. (would like to try 5-birilli and those other great Itallian games)

Never tried snooker, but it is just 150 or so miles north from where I live and will go sometime

 <~~~ Slick Rick...

8-ball easily. With 9 ball you can get unlucky off the break even if you park the cue ball. With 8-ball if you make a ball you have 13 balls to shoot so you pretty much always have a chance for the run.

However I only play eightball w/ ball in hand :)

Pocket Pool...... Ironically I only use one pocket and get ball in hand whenever the urge strikes me.....oh and I always win....:D

I play league 8 ball and whatever 8 ball rules you like when I'm playing in the bar....You want to call everything? ok sloppy APA play? ok as long as we both use the same rule set. I just want to beat you at your own games so you can't use the rules as an excuse for your loss.

14:1 is a great game when I can find someone to play with.

9 ball is a good game I enjoy playing it, but don't get to play it that much. Most 9ballers here are league players, and I haven't tried 9 ball league.

Banks and one hole I've never played and don't know the rules for. I'd love to learn if there was someone around here who was willing to play....

I guess I live in a pool backwater....nothing but 8 ball bangers like me....

I guess maybe my screen name gives it away. Nothing has as much creativity or strategy as a good 1-pocket battle. I have pretty much stopped playing every other game with the exception of an occasional tourney here and there.

1) 9-Ball
2) 10-Ball
3) 9 or 15 ball banks

I play one pocket pretty well but get bored after a few games. Maybe when I get older and can't move too well it may seem more interesting. Until then please don't pick a table next to me to play it.

9 ball

14.1

rotation

bank

Soon, I will get to know the rules for one pocket. And I'm gonna be good at it! soon....

my favorites

my favorite games are, and in this order: 9 ball, but you gotta call the nine...no slopping it in!!! 14:1 (straight pool) due to its stragety, but rarely find anyone willing to play it with me :( and last but not least, 8 ball....due to loving to play leagues where the game IS 8 ball, and there is a little thinking in it too...just HATE breaking an 8 ball rack, kinda complicated to get it "right". lol leagues are a great way to converse with the best this city has to offer, about pool or whatever really...thats the attraction for me :) I LOVE talking to the players above myself, trying to "pick their brains", but learn the most by watching them play! any game of pool is fun really, as long as you have an opponent equally as good as you are or even better than you are!

Straight pool (14.1) has always been my favorite. It requires every skill in pool, with high demands on precise position and patterning. It's also rewards creative thinking and imagination. No other pool game requires such sustained concentration, which can certainly be draining, especially on a tight pocket table, but the focus required to play it well is deeply satisfying.

Eight ball can be a fascinating game, too. Like straight pool it requires precise position, patterning and creativity. I think, more than any game other than one pocket, 8-gall is a strategist's game. That, in itself, makes it a lot of fun.

One pocket is somewhat knew to me. I'm taking to it strongly. It combines much of what I enjoy about straight pool and 8-ball, with the addition of many creative shots and traps that neither game offers. This is definitely a thinking man's game.

Nine ball for when I'm too tired to think. Ball by number. It's a great relief sometimes after playing a thinking game to play 9-ball. Good for working on centerball position angles and for practicing returning the cueball to the center of the table. Safetys and kicks can be interesting. Also good for practicing "line positioning," which I use a lot in all games.

I switch it up back and forth between eight and nine ball, but I love to play rotation aswell, great game to gamble on!
