% when backing pool player

You stake pool players like I bet the horses, a dollar-triple-box on any given race, instead of $5,000 to win on No. 5. :grin-square:

Well, I consider that to be completely wrong.

In a horse race, there is only one winner. In a pool tournament, there are usually multiple prizes. In the UK at least, they are usually paid out to between 15-25% of the field.

So you can certainly have more than one player in the money and, as I said in post 86, you can have them picking up MOST of the money, lol

Good point.

I am glad we are friends again - it may be my original posts got lost in the flood of posting early on in this thread...

Here we go again

And let's include the anonymous AzB-er posting about topics that he's trying to convey he has knowledge about, unless, of course, you want to post your pool portfolio on this thread to let us know what kind of nuggets of wisdom you have to share on this topic. I'm venturing to guess you've never been a backer or been backed, but you're coming on this thread like a know-it-all. Anonymously at that.

Its called common sense. And after reading many of your 29,000 and counting posts it is quite obvious you are a blow hard and you have very little common sense.

We all have opinions and should be able to express them without having JAM policing our every comment.

Narcissism is the pursuit of gratification from vanity, or egotistic admiration of one's own physical or mental attributes, that derive from arrogant pride. The term originated with Narcissus in Greek mythology who fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool of water

I do believe this describes you to a T.

I might not have made my point clearly in the post 86 with regard to tournaments vs straight up money matches...

Money matches:

Major Pro's

Big money for one quick big bet

Major Con's

Match has to be equalised otherwise it will not take place - unless you are especially lucky getting a mug punter to play your "horse"

Tournaments:

Pro's

Odds for the player shorten as the tournament goes on but the rewards get higher.

The competition remains (usually) whether your "horse" is present or not. Taking SVB again. If we backed him into a 128 man tournament, that tournament will likely go ahead whether he was in it or not. Also, before a ball was hit, he would be favourite. Each and every match he plays - he is favourite.

Overall, as the tournamet progresses, his odds shorten.

No starts, handicaps, etc have to be given in order to play a match. SVB can go into a match against a hacker 8/1 favourite and they still have to play first to 9 off levels. Unlucky on the hacker!

Cons:

Tournaments usually are shorter races so luck, run, form are a bigger factor.
Rewards are smaller and may even take a few months to get through all the rounds of the series.

You're quite good at tail-gating me on threads in hopes of getting a rise out of me, but after being the butt of your ridicuile on this forum numerous times, I now consider the source.

You have nothing to contribute to this thread other than to flame. I kind of figured you didn't have much to offer by way of pool.

Those are actually some very good observations. In particular, I agree that in those fast tournament races, anything can happen.

In action, a player might weigh the advantage of having an ahead race as opposed to a numbered race. Endurance plays a factor in this regard.

Equipment is also something to consider, like when Earl played Shane on the rigged-up 10-footer. Earl used his knowldge of equipment in matching up on this challenge match, and he was right.

She's a tool. While I don't have immense 'pool room' experience, what I do have is an advanced degree in computers and mathematics and if I see someone is doing something related to either that I disagree with my reaction isn't "I have a degree in this stuff, I'm so smart, you're so dumb, neener neener" like a rattling child. Another difference being, this subject is entirely up to speculation and opinion because you can't regulate what's fair in a world where people can agree to different terms. I'm almost at a loss how she can get combative with people over their personal opinions being different than hers but that's life... lol

I'm a tool? Read every post you made in this thread, Newbie. Great contributions to the topic. You have an advanced degree in computers, all right. LOL

What a spiteful little 'pool groupie.' How does it feel to be the Yoko Ono of the AZB forums?

My goodness, and here I thought I was on your ignore list. I think you like me. Looks like I got a new fan. Can't leave me alone, can you?

You caught me, there's nothing hotter than chicks older than my mom who act like jerks towards everyone. lol Also, for the record you were on ignore--however I have another 30 minutes before the nearest Chinese place opens, I figured you would be good for a laugh or two before I take off. ;)

Haven't been called a "chick" in a long while. :D

You know what it all boils down to, Seth, I think you have a hard-on for Grady Seasons and his coat-tailer.

Chinese food for breakfast. Bon appetit! :p

Hope you meet some players with good gambling etiquette in your future, Cleary. They're not all greedy, dumping, broke bums on the street.

And I never said they were. I'm friends with a lot of great pool players and I'd consider myself an acquaintance to a good percentage of the rest who make their way around the tournament trail. I would never call them those names and I'm not implying it. Just because a player thinks he's stealing, doesn't mean the other side doesn't feel the same way. Like it or not, it's gambling and when the backer is giving up 2:1 on something that could go either way, he's gonna sweat it.

True dat.

I did not mean to insinuate you said those adjectives I wrote. I meant it generally speaking based on posts I've read on this forum, especially after the Mosconi Cup. :(

Dinner technically, I work nights. Also, ole Grady did have some magic working for him in those polyester pants. lol! I was hoping someone caught that, I felt it was at least a partially funny response. On the subject of Keith, I very much respect his game but still think both of you have problems with being disagreed with. Either way, your response showed a semblance of personality, I feel there may be hope for you.

Anyways, Beijing calls--ciao,

There certainly are pool players that I wouldn't trust further than I could throw them or loan them wooden nickel. I don't need to name names and that wouldn't be appropriate. There is also a handful that I don't see eye to eye with or who doesn't like me... and that's fine by me. But a good portion are alright people in my book.

You may not have been called a 'chick' in a while, but I know another 'c' word that you have been called. Why do you run around AZB like you own the joint? You attack people left and right for their disagreements with you, never actually try and debate. Get off your soap box. I'm tired of seeing threads get polluted with your responses. Try being more of a human than what you currently are.

As others have stated, the "fair" % should vary IMO depending on a # of factors. $ figure of expenses included as a factor. Ex. $500 in expenses vs $50 should warrant a few more % points to the stakehorse.

I have every right to post on any topic I deem worthy of my interest. If you think me being called a "c" word is worthy of mention in this thread, then it shows me what kind of character you have to pollute this thread with that vulgarity, which I did not deserve, by the way.

I don't even post here very often anymore. Just recently on this topic.

Your post is pollution to my eyes. Why not post on topic instead of being the inhumane person you are by referrring the "c" word and my name in the same sentence. You've got a lot of nerve.
