When should I get a new tip?

Hey guys this feels like a total noob question but iv had my Players hxte cue for 2 years now and it came with the Kamui soft tip. Starting to wonder when I should be changing the tip and I seem to have a tiny crack in the ferrule, but I haven't noticed any difference in play.

Now iv never had anything done to my cue before and don't know where I would take it for anything. About how much would it cost me to have someone change the ferrule and tip and how do I know im taking it to the right place.

Iv never looked into changing the ferrule before so is there anything I should be aware of?

Edit: Alright I uploaded a couple pics.

Not a issue .
Just make a thread in the Ask the cuemaker section.

Title the thread looking for a repair person in Colorado...

You can ship the shaft to allot of cue repair guys or cuemakers in Colorado
or in that general area .

'When to get a new tip" has the same answer as when you look at yourself in the mirror and wonder if you need a haircut.......you need one.

Good frame of reference for when to change a tip: When the sidewall of the tip is the thickness of a dime, you need a new tip. Otherwise you risk damaging the ferrule. I'd say you're ready, from your pictures.

post pic and the answer will be forthcoming

I see from the footer in your post that you have a Richard Black Casino cue. I had one of those that I had Richard make for me in 1978 and I sold it 1988 or so to a guy named John in Grand Forks, ND. He was a member of my league team.

Can you post a picture of yours, please? From what I remember mine was rosewood with a black leather pig skin wrap. I can't remember if there was an inlay or two, but it was a solid rosewood wood forearm and butt sleeve, had a SS 5/16/14 pin and a black phenolic butt cap.

I would just trim ferrule back a few thousands, put on a new tip with a carbon fiber pad.
Send it to me I can have it fixed and back in the mail 24 hour turn around.

If there is a issue with the ferrule then 72 hour turn around

I can do a very clean cut and hopefully it will not cut the top of the cap off the ferrule .

Personally I prefer cap less ferrules

When chips are flying off your ferrule...as in like some time last week or last month from your pictures. You are overdue.

Mike will get your straightened out, just as he offered. He is more than trustworthy.

That chip has actually been around for almost a year now I just didn't do anything about it and it didn't get any worse. But I just the other day realized how little of the tip there was left so I thought I'd ask here since everyone has always been so helpful.

How much would that cost me and should I just get a new ferrule instead of trimming it?

I get it.

But if you keep playing it, you will continue to chip more off.

That's all I'm saying.

It's way past time to replace from your pics.

Amel P...I would just have the top of the ferrule faced off (turned down on a lathe to get below the chip), and then a new tip and pad put on. I'm a big fan of the Ki-Tech tips that Renfro here on AzB sells. Lots of people swear by Tom Hays Ultraskin tips. If you like the Kamui, put another Kamui on. I think you can get this fixed mostly for the cost of the tip...under $50 imo. Check your PMs.

It personally looks like your tip is in the sweet zone to me... if it's not messing your ferrule up any worse than it already is and the tip is playing good I would hold off until it is absolutely necessary
