When you get rid of smoking....

Many complain about smoking in pool rooms. Smoking doesn't bother me I have been around it all my life. But if you all are able to the places to ban smoking, can you please get rid of the alcohol next.

I have lived with smokers for 46 years. I do not smoke myself. I have no breathing problems and my eyes do not burn. Smoking has never messed up a good night out playing pool.

I do drink and have 2-3 beers almost every time I play away from home. I do not handle drunks very well. Loud obnoxious drunks or fighting or arguing drunks or staggering spilling drunks. I would gladly drink coke.

Now 2nd hand smoke might kill my fun in the long run. But for me drunks will spoil my fun more often.

I drive 30-40 minutes to play at 1 of 3 places. All 3 places have at least 8 seven foot diamonds and a 9" of some sort. All 3 serve alcohol and probably must to stay a float.

I am not against alcohol just drunks so I must wade through the drunks or shoot at home. This drunk may just mess up my focus or kill someone on the way home.

Yes a drunk did cause me to have less fun lately but the real reason I posted this is because I see comments made all the time on here about wishing everyplace was non-smoking but rarely see anyone complaining about drunks.

If you don't want alcohol in pool halls there won't be any pool halls left to support you :( Unfortunately pool by itself is not usually enough to keep a place open. Your best bet is to ignore the drunks and focus as best as you can on your game and the shot at hand.

I agree with you on that and said as much in my post. I also don't think its right to tell a man he can't serve alcohol or has to be smoke free in his business. We all have to deal with things we don't like.

This one time I figured I would post on what I disliked partly because I see all the non-smoking comments. Let the owners do whats best for them as long as it keeps the doors.

The drunks are there to provide sober folks cheap entertainment as they stumble around and make asses of themselves and to help keep the lights on. Nothing more, nothing less:D

I've just quit smoking myself (very tough to do here because everyplace allows smoking indoors) and as a by-product... stopped drinking anywhere near as much as I was. Drinking makes me want to smoke. So, I notice more often now how stupid the drunks are that are playing pool where I do. And you're right, it can just get down right annoying.

I've started to become like my Irish girlfriend and am learning how to tell them to F#CK OFF when they start bothering me. But, that can lead to problems as well.....

I don't think there is any easy solution.

Join your local Boys Club or YMCA. Im sure you could scare up some games there

I know... that's why I smiled! I don't let much bother me but I am one sarcastic SOB!

move here to PA.....no alchohol or smoking in ANY pool room! kinda sucks actually because I think it would have helped keep a BUNCH of rooms afloat. Many pool rooms are BYOB, but you rarely see any drinking. Bars with tables of course are everywhere......but we are talking about pool rooms.

I was freaked out when I moved to FLorida and went into Browns Billiards and there was a nice bar right there in the room! Living in PA turns you into a friggin Quaker!

I'm a smoker and I wouldn't mind one bit if they banned smoking in pool halls here. Been smoking 30 years and I can't stand that stinky stale smoke smell all over me when I get home. Sure, I'm part of that problem, but even if I didn't smoke I'd still come home smelling like that. As for alcohol, I would back a ban on that too. Drunk people irritate me to no end. But, most people don't drink that much in a pool hall here so it's not too bad. I can't even imagine living back in the States, I'd probably quit playing altogether.

Funny, the rooms in NYS got by for YEARS without alcohol. Now the same rooms get by without smoking. It's not the lack of alcohol or being able to smoke that closes pool rooms.

This post is not an attack on anyone, just a GENERAL Statement about Smoking in General!

Second Hand Smoke is very bad, smoking is very bad, smoking leads to many diseases, I personally have seen the effects of both first hand, abd second hand smoke killing people.

Smoking is a personal choice, and now that there is no smoking in Arizona the pool rooms are more people friendly.

I tend to agree.

On the other hand, you have 4 pool rooms in an area. All of which are alcohol free except one. The one which has alcohol will run the others out of business before you can say "bet". Point being there will always be one who wants the money first pool second and you just have to compete to stay open.

Case and point: I bought my GC from a room closing down in Long Island NY. He told me that he refused to have alcohol in his room. He thought it wasn't needed in that atmosphere. The other room there had alcohol and he just couldn't compete. Nice table, I got a great deal. Sad.

I have never had a problem with a drunk in a pool hall unless it was a player from another team during a league night.

Most of the times it is in a bar where anyone can challenge the table.

The pool room I played in was a no alchohol pool room from the day it opened. 24 hour operation with 14 or so 9' tables and an area of about 6 bar boxes. I think it was 6, though I never really went over there. LOL.

While there was no alchohol, smoking was allowed, and the room owner had a fairly good ventilation so the smoke was not lingering too bad. I moved away, and there was a smoking ban in the city. From my understanding, the hall closed within months of the ban.

While I'm a non-smoker myself, I don't mind the smoking, as it's something you get used to. And I would have to say that allowing smokers to smoke definitely makes them more likely to frequent your establishment. And with the number of smokers out there, it's not a bad thing for sure. (them coming, not smoking) :)

well , it doesn't say which part of Tennessee y'all are from , but I know that up Lynchburg way , they solved this problem by making the whole county dry . You could move there , or commute there to play pool . Course , I believe some of those ol' boys still get their corn from a jar , so it might not be a total solution . . . .
Besides , ain't it jest a lil' bit easier relieving these boys o' their payroll ? Send 'em home broke enough times , and Momma might have sumpin to say bout their boozin . . . .

I wish

When Penna went non-smoking I lost all my younger nightly players as all the kids seem to smoke. Its been a year now and business has not recovered yet. Im just about done.
