I like to go over my To Do list for the next day or maybe think up some fun dinner menus for the family. An idle mind is the Devil's Workshop, and not just during practice strokes: for instance, imagine (no, don't!) the pointless things that can go through your mind during sex if you don't have something productive to think about.

Mmmmm poooooool shoes.......like walkin' on a cloud!

If you wanna play pool, the only thing that better be on your mind is a clear view of your contact point on your object ball...if your thinkin' about anything else...well...your in big trouble! NOTHIN' should be on your mind, just a clear and beautiful view of a minute contact point.....

Mmmmm back to my poooooool shoes now... ;)

Yeah TOAST!

When I'm going to make the shot - nothing.
When I'm going to miss - a little voice saying "oh ****, you're about to miss"

Actually, that's an excellent question. If you're really playing good, you may be thinking about nothing once you get down on the ball. For me, more likely I will be taking dead aim on the bulls-eye. I'm thinking about being very still and hitting exactly where I need to.

I'm just trying to visualize the CB contacting the OB, and the OB rolling into the pocket. Any other thoughts can only make me less likely to execute the shot correctly. I focus on that, and if I lose focus, I stand up, step back, re-chalk, and step back into the shot.

Actually, that's a lie (or wishful thinking); I don't usually stand up if my mind wanders while I'm down, but sometimes I do, and I know I always should.

Well if you would have asked me eariler this year I would have said that I was thinking about everything but making a ball in , I had just about everything running threw my head but in the last couple weeks when I get down for a shot I'm thinking about where my aiming point is and where my next ball is .

To since I've done that I've been making balls in left and right , I just clear my mind of everything other than making my shot , sounds easy but it's quite difficult , but if that happens I just get right back up off the table and then clear the mind of anything other than pool and go right back to what I was doing .

Creating a movie of the shot

Instead of focusing on a contact point, I like to create a movie or in my head while standing. Imagine how the obect ball will twist or spin when the cue ball hits it. If I'm playing well once I get down I am replaying that movie.

Letting it 'happen', process the results into my muscle memory bank, some of my best shots are misses, why, because I know what NOT/and what TO DO next time this shot comes up.

One of two things:

1. How great my a$$ looks to the girl on table 2.

2. How great her a$$ looks on table 2.

If you played where I play, this would all make sense. Put it this way, I would put our top 3 bartenders against most any 3 to ever work in a poolroom at one time. You'd have to see it to believe it. And they can play, too!

Ditto for me, and after I do miss I ask myself why the hell I didn't stand up and go through my routine again!

nothing usually..thinking to much about pocketing the ballor great position is something i try to do before i ever get down on the shot. i like to be on auto pilot after i get down..but if something does pop into my head in mid stroke i will Kid Delicious it and back up and regroup.

But then again i've been known to get a few PBR's in the tank and just fire on em sometimes it works pretty good... but im a better drinker than player.

+1

I would play so much better If I just got back up every single time my mind began to wander.

Its not often I miss a ball that I already didn't expect to miss.

I need to get up to Raleigh more often! Where do you play?

Not certain where I read this... but I did remember it.

Never think in the shooting position... and never shoot in the thinking position.
