Where are the top 5 pool rooms in the that you have personally played in.

I remember your room inside Hollywood Park Casino Jay. I liked that room. You held a few big USPPA Tournaments there that a bunch of us would come down for. I would come down with T-Rex and play in them every six months or so. They were good tournaments. Too bad its not there anymore.

1. Hardtimes/ Bellflower CA Great players, lots of action, nice layout

2. California Billiards/ Mountain View CA plenty of room around the tables, good tournaments, nice layout

3. Hollywood Billiards/ Hollywood CA tight-pocketed tables, very nice room, friendly folks

4. Billiard Tavern/ San Diego CA no longer there but was the best all-round room I've ever played at. Pro shop, arena with an old Brunswick Arcade (I think) table in the middle, restaurant, bar and about 40 tables in the main room. I also liked the lighting and the handy house phone near each table for ordering your favorite drink. I sure miss that place.

5. Society Billiards/ San Diego CA Not a players room by any stretch. Located about 3 blocks from a popular beach. Lots of hot babes (especially now, during the summer). Good food and a daily pool special.

Another vote for Magoo's in Tulsa. Magoo's 2 is the old Tulsa Billiard Palace. Two of the best run pool rooms in the country now right next to each other.
Hardtimes in Bellflower was the best place to go when I lived in LA.
Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood FL on a tuesday night was a great place to play when I lived in Sth FLA.
This thread makes me want to go on a road trip. :)

Not saying it should be in the top 5 but wasn't there a place called Great american in sacramento? A friend of mine practically lived out of there some years back.

Hard Times in Bellflower, CA
Hollywood Billiards, CA
Stix in Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Danny K's in Orange, CA(would be way better if they had good tables)
Hot Shots in Cypress, CA (closed down, but they had good equipment)
Havent played out of state yet

My picks are not necessarily about being the best, but ones that were special to me.

Peg's Pockets - Miami. Made some life long friends here and saw some great players.
Family Billiards - Somerset, Kentucky. Home of Shannon, his dad Gerald, Mike Blevins and a bunch of good shortstops. Lot of talent for a town this size. Saw my first road players here.
Golden Cue - Melbourne, FL. What great tournaments they had here! All the champs: Hall, Mizerak, Cook, Sigel, Strickland, Brundt, Stigall, Howard, Reid, Kennedy, etc.
Chattanooga Billiard Club - TN. The original location is my favorite room as far as the look of it.
JOBs - Huge room, lots of bar boxes, great tournaments.

The most beautiful room I've ever played in was the old Amsterdam Billiards in NYC on the upper west side. I haven't been to see the new one yet. But I always preferred Chelsea Billiards as far as pool rooms go. Hollywood Billiards out here in Hollywood, CA is also a very nice room, though nowhere near as classy as Amsterdam.

in no particular order

abc(the original westside room)...good blend of casual, aficionado, and pro players

golden 8ball(phoenix)...if anyone's been, they know what i' mean.

diamond jim's(nanuet)...this room is almost perfect. especially considerate of the type of music they play.

blue cube(connecticut)..i have to throw in a trendy room just for diversity. well done.

hollywood athletic club(LA. is it still around)... maybe the best space i've ever seen. it could have been a great venue for big time tournaments. shoulda coulda woulda.

chelsea billiards...pure pool through and through.

ok, so i can't count....that's six

There were three other places I liked because of the hang out crowd. They weren't great rooms but had a lot of action:

- Big Mama's, which became Fast Eddie's in North Hollywood. Coke "Coley" was an owner and stakehorse. Ronnie Rosas and Ronnie Allen were the players. This was a road stop - first time I saw Cole Dickson was here.

- Marina Billiards in Marina Del Rey- when I was in school, I could always go there and get cheap games. It was a 24 hour place and there were always people there playing $5 nine ball. I think Jimmy Marino was around a lot.

- Mother's on Ventura Blvd. There were a slew of shortstops there, Buffalo, Mark Jacobs, Little Jeff, all good for cheap action. The road players would come in a lot, Ernesto Dominguez, Jack Cooney, and my friend, Jerry Chapel. Yes, Ernesto was a road player in the old days. He had a crew who followed him around and was always playing for whatever you wanted to bet, whether it was a $1 or a $1000.

there was a place that a cousin of my brother-in-law owned in NW Indiana called McGaffers. it was an upscale place that catered to the casual player, action player as well as the casual onlooker. it was good size and laid out very well. it had great tables, a great food "court" as well as a liquor license. it closed not too long after it opened for what i only remember as a screwed up reason. i really miss that place.............it's where i ran my 7 pack in the last big tourney held there before it closed. :(

Willard's - Oneida, Tn. Had the best monthly one day tournament I have ever seen. Although I won more money in this room then any other I have ever been in, There is absolutely not one good thing I could say about the owner.

I'm going to give a plug for Shooter's in Olathe, KS. I have watched some of the best players in the world over the last several years in tournaments and in high stakes action. The equipment is top notch and it has plenty of room to sweat the matches.
