Where do you rank Darren Appleton?

He is not top 5 as a money player. You can easily find 5 players to match up with him. As a tournament player he prabably is

$$ Player

He is a great money player as well, but he is not even in the same league as Dennis Hatch and may others when it comes to sharking.

yes/no

Darren is without a doubt one of the best in the world, but any given week any of the top 5 or 6 can be called number one. As a huge SVB fan, I would say last week he was #1. Next week it could be someone else. Hard to bypass Dennis O. he is amazing. I really think Darren is consistent, by that I mean his play is level, you do not see that other gear. Earl had the extra gear, and when he hit it he was the best. Shane has the the same. I think of Darren like I think of Buddy Hall, always on their game.

I think Jay probably know better than anyone on this forum with the amount of time he has spent watching these players.

Imo he's been the best player in the world for the last couple of years. Obviously he wasn't the number one for every moment of this period, but it's definitely between him, SVB, Ralf and Dennis. To me he has been the most consistent of this bunch since 2010. Before that the whole group was second to Mika.

When Darren's break is working, I've seen him hit that other gear. He doesn't miss ever ;). Although Shane hits it more often with that amazing break.

I couldn't have said that any better.

Yes, right now he's among the top 3 with Orcullo and Shane.

Darren's credentials speak for themselves:

Reigning WPA World Nine Ball Champion
Winner of the last two Challenge of Champions events
Winner of two of the last three US Open 9-ball events

Darren's track record says that the bigger the prize fund, the better he plays. That's the sign of a champion, and it certainly brings to mind the credentials of Europe's greatest ever player, Ralf Souquet, who always shines brightest when the biggest prize money and the most prestigious titles are up for grabs.

I like the Buddy Hall comparison earlier in this thread. Darren is sooooo consistent it's scary.

Pool Level: Freak

Once you get to his point I don't think there is much difference between him and the other pool freaks.

i agree with the general consensus that he is among the top of the list with shane and dennis. if you're talking 9 ball, or any rotation game (after the break) ronnie might be the best. but everything included it's dennis, shane, busty, and bloody hell why not darren

Its really to tough to determine when looking at it from a tournament aspect. Crazy things happen in races, even to 11 or 13. Shawn Putnam finished 2nd at last years US Open so was he a top player then? Hes good but how many players would line up to play him if he agreed to play everyday. Darren needs to get in some long races on TAR or something, like the mutli-set races to 21 or 25 or whatever they were. He has a great chance against a lot of great players and matches with Dennis, SVB, Alex, Fransisco...etc would be a good start.

Honestly, they're all great... any one of them on a given day could be in the money in major tournaments. I'd say Darren is consistent is heck especially if his break is on. He's got a temper but when he's focused, he's hard to beat... top 3 I'd say, easily.

His results in the last years should speak for themselves. Darren is one of the most feared players nowadays.
And i find it somehow funny how someone could say he s not a good moneyplayer- lmao....

In my opinion we have to talk about more than just 5 top-players. There are imo about 15-20 players where eveybody can win against everyone. To get the most consistant --well then you just have to look at the tournament results in the last 10 years.

And this without having no clue for most of us what s going on in taiwan, china etc.---- there are a lot of machines who ll never make it outside their country.

Darren is for sure one of the best nowadays-and not only if his break works. He knows it all.

I'm confident that there are Taipei/Taiwanese players that aren't even on our radar.

Look at how Wu destroyed the world when he was a little boy. I feel like

Filipinos come to the US far more often, tracing the footsteps of Parica,

Santos, Efren, Bustamante, and Alex; but don't think that those boys in

Taiwan aren't in the top 5 just because you haven't seen them in the open or

TAR matches. Those guys are robots; they rarely make the simple mistakes

that you will see many other top players make.

Fantastic champion...on a Diamond.

Stick him on a Gold Crown and he loses some of his superpowers.

He's top three without a doubt. He, Shane and Orcullo are the top three in no particular order.
