where have all the pictures of big cues gone

You are right about the criticism of unknown cuemakers. It does make one not want to post. Who needs their butt kicked by a stranger? There are a number of cuemakers in the U.S. who build really great cues but they are not interested in criticism from, in many cases, wannabes or know it alls.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. A few years ago, a couple of relatively unknown cuemakers (who shall remain nameless) started having a few pics of some of their work pop up here. Because the designs were fresh, new, different, and extremely well-executed, those two cuemakers are now VERY highly regarded. Their cues are sought after. They have wait-lists. They've won praise and respect of their peers and have even seen their cues nominated for Cue Of The Year, back when that was still happening.

But new cuemakers (or established cuemakers for that matter) making 4 point hoppe-style cues or Szam / Bushka / anyone else clones really aren't going to find themselves climbing the ladder in terms of respect or regard in the eyes of cue lovers. Sure they'll have a fan-base who will be quick to call them 'the best in the business' or say that 'they're right up there with the best', etc.. But that doesn't make it so. Unfortunately, when others point that out, it's considered 'hating'.

I think part of the problem is the harsh critique and comments some Azers tend to express about cues
that aren't even theirs. Unless the cue-maker was Szam, Mobley, Searing, Black Boar....you get the drift.
The cues made by lesser known, or relatively unknown, cue-makers get judged differently and minutia
comments are expressed about what's not perfect.

So folks figure why expose myself to that and if the cue had ivory in it, forget about it.....then they really
should expect to get dumped on. You don't see that when someone posts a photo of their ebony/ivory BB cue.

AZ has lost its zip n go.......its future is not bright.......I wish it weren't so but the truth cannot be ignored
nor denied....I think it should be redone........all paid members........everyone pays at least a $1.00 per month
or $1.50 ($18.00 annual) or maybe make it $20 but AZ has to change its approach to earn & deserve the money.

The AZ site would still allow visitors to browse the site for free but absolutely no posting privileges. What about
$15.00 annually for members but they have no selling privileges but $25.00 annually ($10.00 more) if you wish
to sell anything. The truth is when you give something away for free, people do not appreciate what they have
but if & when you charge for that same service, it instantly becomes more important.to its users.

I dont agree with almost this entire post.

Kinda reminds me of politics in this year. Thinking that if we get taxed more we will appreciate it more. For the life of me, I cant understand someone thinking this, and even more saying out loud.

There are alot of cues that I dont like that are posted here, and typically if I dont like them, I just dont comment on them.

I have posted some negatives, one was the new "CUSTOM CUE" built by Dan Janes that was terrible quality, and the second one that I can remember was the veneers on the Davis blank.

We are big boys and I don't post anything I wouldnt say to your face.

...a more direct answer to the OP's question... maybe no one is ordering "big" cues because they know they can't get out of them.....(by flipping them and making 250%)

There’s some truth to that. 10-15 years ago collectors would sell or trade-up all the time. There was always a new cue being ordered given the easy money made from selling off a cue a particular collector may have grown tired of. The trouble now is that there are so very few in a position to pay someone’s asking price. That, the ivory issue and the fact that the gene pool of high end collectors is shrinking and aging, is all contributing factors to the decline in high end cue buying. Currently the high end stuff is unreachable or of little interest for most and the lower end market is completely saturated. Things have changed.

Well, at least you have the same outlook I have about internet. I personally try to treat others the same as I would as if we were conversing face-to-face.

I think if people want to give criticisms they should do so. However, Context an some brief description of your intent goes the length of a galaxy because Internet the norm by many is just bash an beat a person or cue over the head and give no respect to tht person.

The biggest problem of the Internet is people's complete lack of respect for the other person, mainly because of the Safety and Anonymity that the Internet provides.

Please Cue builders post your work. I've been a fan of several builders I found on the Internet and have never met personally and I will always do so if they continue to build the same quality products as I will do the same for any new builder.

I'm not saying a hoppe or a Bushka design ISN'T pretty. I like them quite a bit. I actually LOVE hoppe cues. I'm just saying that there seems to be a pretty large group of guys here who see cuemakers doing what are essentially pretty simply, unoriginal designs but are quick to say things like "This guy is right up there with the best".

Nothing wrong with simple cues at all. But when guys are quick to hype up someone who is doing designs that we've seen a million times before and a slew of others are quick to chime in and say "Cue of the year!" or "So-and-So is in a league all his own", it makes you... wonder why bother showing off the real 'monsters'.

AZ's gallery has long been viewed by MANY to be a "Compliments only" zone. There is no room (in the eyes of SO many here) for frank or open discussions or the sharing of opinions. It's more a place where you're expected to read the OP's post and just mirror everything he/she says. Pretty sad.

who wants to put a cue they bought in the gallery
only to have some nit wit critique it

or for that matter who cares to read the rude remarks by some know it all?

it like having your new born and some jerk says what an ugly baby

if you don't have something nice to say,say nothing at all

i would like compliments only to be the rule
not just good manners

Seen before but to keep this on track, The one and ONLY Tascarella Mosconi Balabushka "tribute" with original Bushka materials & a very special veneered diamond Tascarella with some of George's parts..

Tim, "Skins", two of my all time favorites. Also knowing how Pete's cues play makes them really exciting. Thanks for sharing.

I like to post cues but the biggest cue I have is my JMW and it's not that big (and I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing it anyway...lol). :o :o :sorry:
