Where is Patrick Johnson?

Lou,

A great story that illustrates your thought well. I have noticed other very strong posts from you lately. I gotta tell a little story too though.

Many years ago I owned horses. Like most loving pet owners I first thought that they were thousand to fifteen hundred pound dogs or cats. After awhile I learned that they were herd animals and that no two animals in the entire herd were exactly equal. When you build a working relationship with a horse the same is true. You become part of the herd. You can be above the horse, you can be below the horse, but the horse's mind is not wired to accept an equal. Stud horses of course want to be superior, that is the way they are wired.

I had a very well bred, super intelligent, foundation stud horse. Fantastic athlete too, I could go on and on about this horse. One of the few animals that I have truly loved in my life. However, he was a stud horse. He could no more accept me as an equal than he could fly. The two times that he seriously challenged me I unloaded a can of whipass cream on him that would have had PETA or the humane society up in arms. However horses are quite capable of deliberately killing people and when they are serious about it there isn't a thing you can do. I had to get his attention. We couldn't have any misunderstanding as to who was boss, nor could we be in a constant battle to try to determine who was boss.

Sometimes the mod's have to get somebody's attention too when they don't take gentle warnings.

Thanks, Hu , and yes I agree. But as I said, I think too heavy a hand has been used in this case. For a regular participant, a few weeks ban is plenty -- no need for a lengthy sentence. All that does is piss people off and and injure their pride. No need for any of that, IMO.

No doubt.

I wonder if Freddy concurs with your application of the technique :-)

Freddy might not agree with my "analysis," but it doesn't matter. He can obviously make the cue-twist technique work for him with certain banks ... that's all that really matters. Although, I don't think it is the best technique advice for most people ... although, "most people" can't bank like Freddy does.

Regards,
Dave

Don't crawfish on us Dave. That's not like you.

It actually took a little bit of practice to get that 2nd shot to work. But it was worth it. ;)

I love those daisy dukes with the tucked-in yellow t-shirt!! Thank God my gf isn't checking this out over my shoulder. Next thing ya know she'd be called Betsy Spider-Alciatore.

I see your call and raise you...

Joey,

I grew up in New Orleans, and I love crayfish, and I have crayfish-boil parties often, and I still don't know what you mean here ... so I doubt anybody else does either. Could you please explain?

Thanks,
Dave

My limited experience with crawfish is that they move forward very slowly and retreat very quickly. ;)

I get it now. That Joey is cunning. I guess I'm sometimes as slow as a crayfish's approach when it comes to humor. :D

Thanks,

Pat is doing fine. I saw him yesterday hanging out with 1 Pocket Ghost and mentioned to him that there was a thread asking about his whereabouts. He seemed somewhat surprised at the notion.

He kind of teared up a bit actually...

...not. :D

Seriously though, no biggie as far as I could tell.

T......Please don't scandalize me like that....I wasn't "hanging out with him" - I was giving him his One Pocket lesson/thrashing...jeez, now that you've wrongly, embarassingly associated me with him like that..the mods are probably watching my posts, the forum conservo's hate me, the government's probably got my phone tapped, etc...:o...:D

Dave, that's a great analysis of the "cue twist" technique. All your videos are first rate.

In addition, you win the Diplomat Of The Month award...;)

Robert "RJ" Wilkinson

PJ is hanging out with Carmen San Diego! :D

I'll be glad when he comes back.

Patrick has always been the way he is since way back in the usenet RSB/ASP days.

LOL, I remember getting totally p'd off at him many times. But I like the guy despite his curmudgeon-ish ways! He's a good egg once you get past all that.

Thank you!

Wow, within 24 hours, I've won the "Crawfish Award" and the "Diplomat of the Month Award." I can't wait to add these to my resume.

The cue twist thing reminds me of another shot somebody was showing me years ago. The person had two different "types" of stroke with names something like "punch" and "jab," but I don't remember the exact names. The person was convinced the different stroke "types" were creating different action on a shot with the exact same cue speed and tip contact point. The person showed me the two shots ... and sure enough, they had different action, and the person seemed to be using the same speed and was aiming at the same point on the CB. Then I said: "You are getting different action because you are not hitting the CB where you think you are with the 2nd shot." The shot speed was too fast to be able to see this directly, but I told him it was obvious to me based on the ball reaction. The person took offense at this because he was convinced his stroke was accurate (i.e., he was sure he was hitting the point he was aiming at on the CB). So I pulled out my Jim Rempe CB and set it up the same way for both shots. He repeated the two shots perfectly again, and I showed him the chalk mark on the CB after each shot. And after trying the shots some more, and after about 30 minutes, he finally agreed with me. What he was doing was tightening his grip a little more on the 2nd shot, which was bringing his tip down some, creating more draw. He still had a hard time believing it because his cue seemed to be finishing the same way after each shots. This was because he was also dropping his elbow differently on one of the shots. After a while, I was able to convince him to just use his normal stroke on both shots, with a relaxed grip, which would be more consistent and accurate, and just aim lower on the CB. After hitting the shots with a normal stroke, he was able to get the desired action on both. Then, he no longer needed to know three different "types" of strokes ... only one.

I hope nobody will think I am a "lobster" for offering this story. :p

Regards,
Dave
