I see that Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Ronnie Alcano and Dennis Orcullo are not at the US Open. Anyone know why?

They have enough action in their back yard, why bother the extra expense, for a slim chance of winning!

I agree with Naji. Maybe there's some other pool happenings closer to the home front.

I know this is a really big disappointment, however, to the fans in this region. There is a strong Filipino contingency in Norfolk and Chesapeake Beach area.

I am one of those fans.

While I am not Phillippino myself, they are my favorite players to watch.

But we still have the following:

Pagulayan
Corteza
Gabica
Mazon
Lining

Other Asian players I would have enjoyed watching:

Ko Pin Yi
Ricky Yang

By the way, even though he lost last night, Lo Li Wen is amazing.

Don't forget Carlo Biado and Roberto Gomez!

For me, the baton has been passed in the Philippines and the generation of Reyes, Bustamante, Lining, Andam and Luat has been replaced by that of Orcullo, Biado, Vann Corteza and Gomez.

Of course, it's always fun to watch the old guard of the Filipinos , but I'm more interested in watching the new guard that, in my view, already outplays the old guard and, logically, will soon widen the gap.

PS Not sure whether Warren Kiamko is a member of the old or new guard.

Parica is here too. Wearing the same striped shirt as in '92.

And there are always a lot of tournaments in Asia nowadays. These guys have to consider the travel cost vs potential winnings ratio. That's my guess.

Filipino Big Guns aka "The Old Guards"

No bet!!!!!!!!

And don't you people forget Kiamco! He got BURNED by the win by 2 rule last year and now the World must pay...

Battle cry!:D

The so-called Filipino Big Guns are not present but they are still amply represented by the "Young Guns" as demonstrated by the winners brackets. They might not strike fear among the hearts of most of these players but they are capable of winning any of the tourneys that they enter. As to BB's prediction and dire warning, World look out!!

Black-balled, you just might be awarded an honorary Filipino recognition in the future. When I introduced you to Warren years ago at Salisbury, there was a young kid with him playing at the tournament with him, he is here now playing in the Open and doing very well indeed for his age. I'll pm you his name if you want.
