I'm in minneapolis area and want a 9 foot gc. Figure that new will give me the excellent condition that I am looking for. Any advice on the best place to buy one from?

Might want to try your local craigslist. You might be surprised.

Agreed, you can find like new Gold Crowns for unbelievable prices on Craigers. Why put out a few extra g's you don't have to? My local Craigslist has been bombarded with tables as of late. I think the economy is really starting to effect peoples pockets. Unless you're loaded, then go for it!

If new condition is what you're looking for, why not consider a Diamond 9ft ProAm? It's less than a GC5 new, plays great, and don't lose it's value like GC's do;)

Aesthetics of the Diamonds have a long way to go. They simply don't look very nice IMO. Too chunky for me. I like the curved lines and metal castings/trim of the gold crown.

I agree, Gold Crowns are much nicer looking tables.

Yeah, I hear ya....kind of like a beauty queen, she don't have to be smart, just as long as she looks good...who cares if she can add or subtract in math:D

Ouch! At least Brunswick makes a good table. I can't stand the people who go for the fancy carved wood tables at the expense of performance.

I know that this will sound like heresy, but I think that the GC 1 is the ugliest table ever made. It looks like it should be in a cheap dentist's lobby. And those laminate rails look like hell too and just get beat up over time. But to each their own.

It' hard to argue with the aesthetics of this:

And I have a hard time imagining that they play like crap. Come on.

Yeah, those Diamond tables look like sh1t. Plus, that company doesn't support pool at all.

Ultimately, all I can say is the following:

De gustibus non disputandum est

However, for my money, I think that the Diamond Pro is the more aesthetically pleasing table. But then again, I prefer redheads to blondes. I think that more men prefer the latter, but then again, they'd be wrong...:D

Geez guys, this isn't a Gold Crown vs. Diamond thread. A fellow member simply asked where he could buy a new GC5 in his area. It seems certain "Diamond" guys never miss an opportunity to bash Gold Crowns. What is it, small man syndrome?

Both are excellent tables. They have some differences in their playing characteristics, but it's pretty much a matter of personal preference/opinion, and the OP didn't ask for an opinion on this.

Back to the topic, I don't live in your area so I can't help you but the Craig's list route sounds like a good idea. Best of luck with your search. :D

GC I and II's souped-up are better.
