Where to play in LA

Lou stop lying and being a troll.

Wayne, learn that other people have other opinions.

It's pathetic that because someone has an opinion different than yours, you immediately go to the charge of lying.

Lou, I never had a problem with your or anyone else's opinions only with your outright lying.

I have not gotten a pick up game at SM in all the times I have visited.

Others have had similar experiences.

Friends have told me you won't give up a fair game.

All of the above are true statements. If you don't like them or don't believe them, go pound sand, because I could not possibly care less :-)

Regarding the subject of fairness. Pool is one of the only games, sport if you will, that you have to apologize for winning. Tiger Woods does not apologize for winning a major golf tournement. No one that I know is forced into playing anybody. I have played Wayne for years he is is ahead of me in the action an yet I would be hard pressed to ask him for more wieght than I am getting.

But let's no get confused, he is there to win as I am, and no one is forcing me to play him. I don't know many players that will give you a game where they are going to lose all the time and; if so there will be a limo waiting for them. None of us are bucking for the preisthood. That being said Wayne is someone that I have great respect for in the pool room and he always conducts himself as a gentlemen. He does not shark you or play mind games with you at all it is just the pure game. He has played at lot of the greats while I was on the rail watching. To say he is a lock artist is erroneous.

In my mind capital in the pool room is circulating and of course the better players are going to recieve more of it, with certain caveats. It works the same way on the PGA Tour. To my friend Wayne I can only say just keep on winning that is what you are supposed to do.

Lou, as far as you not getting pick up games in Santa Monica it would seem that you suffer from a personality disorder that precludes you from getting any action,

ah another anonymous weenie, this one with only 15 posts and the magnificently adolescent moniker of "overloard" lol.

Well, here's your single shot answer, "overlord" there won't be any more: I have been lucky enough, over the years, to play in pool rooms all over the country. Rooms in the areas of New Jersey, Boston, Lexington, Miami, Atlanta, Gulfport, New Orleans, Louisville, Dayton, Chicago, Kalamazoo, Kansas City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Tampa, Indianapolis, Memphis, Dallas, Sacramento, San Francisco, and probably a few others. Never had a problem getting a pick up game anywhere else but SM. Others have had similar experiences.

You are still lying although you are changing your lies so they are not as blatant as the previous ones. Slight improvement. Wayne

Saying the same thing, just not wasting as much time spelling out all the details for you.

Where Not To Play in LA

I'll be in LA from Thursday-Sunday this week (sadly, for an uncle's funeral). Are there any good tourneys or pool rooms that I should check out on these days? I played at Hard Times when I was on vacation a couple months back during the day...didn't see much pool outside my own table.

I'd be happy to meet up with any AZB'ers for some drinks and light action.

Thanks,

Rod

Rod let me go back to your original question. I think you now know where in LA you can visit. Im glad you got to visit HOB in Santa Monica and had a good time. Sorry I wasn't there for you. I wasn't ducking you. I was there till 8PM and I do have a 4 year old boy to take care of.
But let me tell you places not to play if your a visitor. Especially if youre going to come in and beat 2 regulars and lose to the house best player getting 10/7 in 5 sessions and then rant by saying everyone else is "scared to death" of you to play.

Do not go to Koreatown. There is a lot of Billiard parlors. You can see by the neon signs with the 2 crossed sticks and 3 balls. If you acted like that your family would probably be filing a missing persons report.

Do not go to East LA and try that. Those Vatos will detain you in the Mens Room while they are dismantling your car for auto parts.

Never ever do that in South Central LA Unless I send you there with Banking Mike. And then you have to be careful. They don't play.

Be thankful you have us at HOB where you are always welcome. We will let you have your rants safely. Sometimes.

Do not let anything he says upset you. He has been exposed for his lies and his solution is to attack the messengers to try to cover up his lies.

He calls you an anonymous weenie, yet he cites his anonymous intell (aka imaginery intell), his anonymous texts (aka imaginery texts), his anonymous emails (aka imaginery emails) his anonymous friends (aka imaginery friends) to make his case that "everyone in los angeles knows I am a lock artist". When asked to get any of his imaginery sources to cite just a single example of when I played a lock game or requested one all of a sudden none of his imaginery sources can come up with even a single one. When numerous non imaginery sources debunk his imaginery tales (aka lies) he starts to attack them.

When I said "its hard to get a game in there" I was being overly broad with my choice of words.

It's difficult to get a game in HOB that is what I'm looking for, a even game for a amount $$$$ that's more than a tank of gas.

I can get robbed in there 7 days a week for $50 at a time. anyone can.

I like the guys in that room and am always nice to them, and am genuine when I say "hello how are you?" they are all good guys. They are nice to me, sometimes i dont go in for a few months when i'm in Europe etc. When I do get back they all ask how i am etc. How i feel etc. So for the rail its a good spot.

I suppose the best way to describe the gambling culture of HOB is its like a tight poker game, where everyone only plays a hand when they have the nuts in a low stakes game. that dont make them bad guys or it a bad room. its just how it is, i cant change that-I tried believe me i really did, i failed. So I work with what it is. A low stakes room with tough action. I like to bet more with looser guys, but i'm not sure where that is anymore-if anywhere.

There really is nothing to argue about here, we all been playing pool 30 years plus and should all be able to get along. thats how i see it. none of are new to pool, i'm a C player but still understand pool rooms and how to handle myself when i'm new in town, and for the record i lived in LA since 93 and never went to HOB until 3-4 years ago. So i'm a new guy in that room.

Eric you know you are a special case. When you say low stakes its all relative. If you have $50K in your gambling Bankroll then $1K is only 2%. But if you have $5K to gamble with then that's 20% of your BR. Outside of a few I don't know anyone who has $5K to gamble with much less $50K. Most people have like less than $1K of fun money.

Poker players have a general rule. For tournament play its 1% of your BR. Or 100 buy ins. So if you play a $1K tournament you should have $100K in your BR. For cash games at least 50 buy ins. So if your playing like $5/$10 cash game with a top buy in for $1K you should have $50K.

Most of our guys have a regular job or on a fixed income. Im sure they would be able to play a game for $1K but their variance is so bad that they know they would go broke quick. These guys have families.

The best player in the house has 3 kids. One going to college. I have a 4 year old who is starting in pre school. We have bigger gambles in life. We are trying to build a family which takes a lot of heart. I have so much respect for guys who are working everyday supporting their family putting their kids through school. You have to understand this. When you call these people nits its just not fair.
This is why most pool players I know are broke and owe us guys who have a Bankroll money.

We ask people to respect us and we respect you.

As I said you have always been kind to me and very respectful and I appreciate that.
I will love to play you banks anytime for $20 but I am not going to gamble my kids future with anyone even if I have the nuts. Cause I have the nuts already with my family every nite I sit down to dinner with them.
Respectfully

i understand that and your 1000% right,

I'm very much looking forwards to playing you banks, I been asking around for a banks game for a while now. I have no idea how we will come out. What I do know is it will be fun. And we will keep it fun. thats important to keep it in perspective.

See you soon,

best

I think we are not focusing on reality here. No one that I know likes to lose for small stakes or for more money. Some guys want to high roll you to get the advantage cause they can't beat you unless they put pressure on you.

There are a lot of people in pool halls that have a fatansy about pool hustlers. The players in Santa Monica all know each other and have each others games clocked for the most part. Everybody is trying to get the edge to win. There are a lot of ways of saying no. One way is to say that you won't play unless it is for big money. That just means you don't want to compete. If a guy who wants to play for big money wants to compensate for putting you under greater pressure then I might be inclined to play that person. Professionals players are used to playing under big money pressure. Recreational players are not for the most part. If you have a pool table in your house you already have a big advantage playing people that don't. Remember playing pool is not like rolling dice its personal.

having a box at home has never been a advantage or disadvantage for me. i have to be in the action frame of mind to win and that dont happen at home, not for me anyways. Wish it did tho:)

I believe having a table at home is an advantage. Just the idea that you can stay in tune with your skills is a great help.
I understand what you say about the action frame of mind. But like it's been said, when you get into action or tournament play "if you didn't bring it with you, you won't find it there".

My only comment on this thread is, if you want to play, just ask someone to play. And oh yea, Wayne is a stand up guy. One of my favorite persons. I met Lou once, and he seems like a good man too. Things just got off on the wrong foot here. Play nice boys.

First off let me say I have monster respect for you, Thats a fact. For many years.

For me, I have had a table at home 50% of the time since i been a player and yes its a nice way to stay in stroke and convenient, especially in LA.

However for me if I look back thru the years of me playing(with the exception of the time I had the table in Vegas when I gambled at home), In all the years I never won more often or played better because I had a table at home. I have to be in the pool room often to be in "Fighting shape" I cant get that at home(except the Vegas thing from 08-10 there was 3 years there that home was the same as the pool room-wish you seen it).

Thats just me, for other guys I imagine a table at home could be and is a huge advantage.

my very best

Hi Frank: He just got me going when he wrote the following lies after his knocking of the house of billiards.

"Maybe it's like those that have contacted me and have all said pretty much the same thing: everyone in LA knows Wayne is a lock artist and will never give you a fair game. Don't play him."

I asked him to get his "intell" "guys pming and emailing him" "other guys in LA" to give him one example of me being a lock artist and never giving a fair game.

He never did come up with even 1 example.

I am pretty sure that anyone who loves the game and only wants to enjoy themself would be pretty offended by these lies.

If he comes up with 1 example from one of his many sources (imaginery or not) I will forgive him and stop calling him a liar. Otherwise he will continue to be viewed by me the same way.

Wayne
