I just moved to Mc Kinney TX and was wondering where a good pool hall was. I really don't want to have to drive all the way into Dallas every time I want to hit some balls... anyone out there got any suggestions?

Yo, I just recently moved to Arlington and found a few tournaments around by looking in AZB tournament section. There are like 3 tournaments per month... same time each month and they are for middle class players.

One of em is the 10ball at clicks in dallas, 9ball at JR pockets, and that one tournament ran by rack em zack em.

Luke's in Sherman has a tournament every Sat at 3 pm. Generaly some action too. Mckinney has some wierd laws that prohibit pool halls. I live half way between Sherman and Mckinney. If you want to meet up and car pool to Luke's let me know.

Welcome to pool hall purgatory!

If you don't mind driving to Plano, there is Austin Ave on Parker near Alma

If you don't mind driving to Richardson, there is Billiard Den on Arapaho east of custer.... or Lonestar grill on Arapaho at Plano Rd. (both allow smoking)

Easy access from McKinney....

Click's, Marsh and Rosemeade
Wizards, 75 and Belt Line
Billiard Den, 75 and Arapaho

All of them are probably 20-30 minutes for you, but then again, they are for most people....unless you just live next to one, nothing is "close"...

I know Click's and the Billiard Den have 9 footers, and you shouldn't have any issues getting action at either....keep bumping this post, someone will find you.....Click's has a little Wednesday night handi tourney that is a good place to have fun and meet some of the locals/people that post here....you can usually find a little action there on Wed night or on the weekends, typically 9 ball and 1 pocket....

The Fox and Hound at Midway and George Bush has about 20 Diamond tables. Mostly oversized eights with big pockets, but there are 4 nines with smaller pockets.

From McKinney, go south on I-75 about 15 miles to George Bush. West on Bush about 4 miles to Midway. Left (south) on Midway 2 blocks. This is also a mile or so from the Click's on Marsh location, so you can check out both places.

Free pool during lunch, M-F, (11 to 2). Lunch and iced tea are about nine bucks. (get the Black Forest sandwich combo) After 2pm , pool is twelve dollars per hour for the table. House whiskey is about four dollars, better stuff is seven bucks.

Be advised F&H is a sports bar. On game days, pool is no good because of a house full of screaming sports fans watching the game on all the tv's.

I go down to Dallas every other month or so. I would love to meet some AZer's. If anyone wants to meet and/or play send me a PM.

I have met Larry before, and that's about it from that area. He lives just north of Dallas, but I want to meet others! Ross, let me know when you get settled in, and I will come visit your ninja a$$.

Thanks...

Wow... what a bunch of cool people here... Thanks to all for helping me out... I can't wait to get to meet some of you around the Dallas area... I'm gonna check out some of the little tournaments around at first to make some friends, and we will see what happens from there.... Thanks again to everyone!

Howdy, Neighbor!...

I live in Mckinney as well. Although I never get out to shoot anymore. I work nights and a lot of weekends.

However, on the rare occasions that I do get out, I generally go to the Billiard Den. This is the best room in the area, IMHO. Let me qualify that by saying that I have not tried any of the rooms in Denton or Sherman. The Billiard Den has good equipment, nice staff, nice patrons, and affordable prices. I don't gamble much ('cuz I suck), but there seems to be plenty of action there because I have never been in the place without someone asking me to play some. The Billiard Den is located on Arapaho road in Richardson, just west of 75 (Central Expressway). It's kind of hidden back in a strip shopping center. Look for it on the right just as you complete an S-turn in the road (which I think is just past Custer road).

The closest place I have found to Mckinney is the Main Event, located at 75 & Spring Creek Pkwy (stay on the service road after exiting @ Spring Creek). This is a teeny-bopper hangout that has some decent pool tables, but also has a bowling alley, laser tag, and loud music. No action here, but if you just need a close place to knock some balls around, it will do in a pinch.

There is also a Fox & Hound in Richardson at Campbell & 75. This has nice equipment, but is a little too yuppie (and pricey) for my taste. As another poster mentioned before, this is more a sports bar than a pool room.

Wizards, which someone else mentioned, is also a good place. It too is rather yuppie, or used to be. I haven't been there in a while.

If you drive back into Dallas, there are plenty of rooms around. Just do a google search. Good Luck!

The Billard Den also has free pool on Wed. and Sun. on the 8-footers. That's a nice plus for me. Regular prices are $8 for 8 foot and $9 for 9 foot. Pretty good compared to most other places.

Fox and Hound has the Hip Card which gives to half price pool from Sun-Thurs. and half price on appetizers if you work in the service industry.

Hawleys by 635 and preston is non smoking and has their happy hour, $4.00 a person from opening till 8pm I believe. Free pool on Mondays after 8pm, but it's pretty packed - haven't been in a few months so that's what I remember from the last time I was there.

Those are pretty much the only places I've been to... I don't pay attention to action but I'm sure The Den and Hawley's have their fair share - I've been asked to play pretty much every other time I go. Fox and Hound like everyone says is more of a sports bar. My 2 cents..

I also live in McKinney and the fact that there are no pool tables in town has forced me to just basically give up the idea of ever practicing...

Now I just go into Dallas, Denton, Sherman and Plano to play in leagues or tournaments and sometimes for challenge matches...

I firmly believe I would be a far different player if I even practiced for an hour a week...

::Sigh::
