which cue shaft and tip is Mike Sigel using?

hi does anybody know which cue shaft and tip is Mike Sigel currently using, or which one did he use mostly in the past?

more specifically im interested to know which tips he prefers and the hardness, and if he likes to cut down the tip a bit when it's newly installed..etc.
any info would be GReatlllly appreciated.

i'd be happy to know more info on his cue/shaft/tip(s) he plays or played with/shaft tip size (13 vs 12.5 vs 12 mm, etc)

My uncle used to be really good friends with Mike, He uses Lepro's, He and I were at a tournament together once and we talked about tips for probly a half an hour.....There is a difference in Lepro's hardness's and how to tell. Mike Like's harder lepro's. He'll go through 2 boxes to find the harder ones and keeps them for himself.

i heard this story second hand, but supposedly sigel's tip on picking le pro's was to sand the back of the tip and look at the color. the light ones are softer, and the darker chocolate brown ones are the firmer ones. i did try this on some tips and it did appear to be true for the most part.
 
Since Mike Sigel has been a cue maker and made numerous custom cues over the years, I am going to work on the assumption that any cue and shaft that he uses in his own play is mostly likely one's that he made himself for himself.

I have seen him in Champions talking about not liking this one or that one. He seems to be always changing them.

I have a good source who says 10 out of every 100 Lepros are bad.

What does this tell me? --------> never buy a Lepro tip unless you have your own tip machine. I am buying one for myself for this reason and others, like not having to depend upon finding good tip mechanics and then running the risk that the tip is bad.

From my experience, I'd say it was more than that but I haven't used very many in a long, long time. I have one LePro on one of the four shafts on my Dishaw and it seems to hold up well. I have Triangles on the other three.

I don't know what it might be worth but some of his cues can draw some strong value....I haven't seen them go nearly that high though.

He started off cue making at JOSS under Dan Janes a long time ago.

But......If Mike Sigel were selling his own playing cue....and he made it....I suppose he could name his price actually......even if it does have a LePro tip. I mean....he's Mike Sigel


As I remember from 22-23 years ago he used LePro....but he was shooting with a JOSS then IIRC.

I am still using an old supply of LePro tips that I have. The sanding trick can work, but it also depends on how much you sand them too, it's gotta be consistent to compare them. Generally the darker ones are better. BUT, the ones I have are from the mid to late eighties and seem to be a heck of a lot more consistent than the ones they have been making since then. The few that were softer I picked out a long time ago and made milk duds out of them.
 
if you want more consistent le pro's, try the 15mm size from Atlas. same with the triangles. they're way better than the smaller sizes!
