Which is the truth, guys?

Furthermore, I have no say in who does or does not recieve an invitation.

The decision was Randy's, not mine - it's his event and he can invite anybody he wants -

The golden rule

Grady,

We both know the golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules. Randy might not have had a say in the invites but I feel sure he could have if he wanted to.

blackjack spoke "out of turn". I'm guessing, much like the previous poster, he assumed I had control of the invitations. The fact is, as I stated in my post, I have absolutely no say, and that's THE GOD'S HONEST TRUTH.

just cuz someone has the cash to back a pool event, doesn't mean he'll exercise the power to pick and choose.

I don't know Randy at all but I buy this statement. Why not buy it? Who WANTS to be mad? Just let it go. Let it fly off into the past and move on to the job of being who you think you should be today. It's hard enough to be the person you can respect without holding on to resentments that hurt and piss you off. We all need each other, and have to work with each other to make the pool world we want. That's the truth you asked for Grady.

This controversy seems related to NYC cue playing a wild card slot in an event recently two years ago.

I've taken slack for smaller things. I can't even use the computer without being under some suspicion of high fidelity.

Read what I said again and then answer this question: Had you requested that someone be invited, would your request have been ignored? Methinks not but I'll let you answer that one.

This only goes to show how much I actually know about the selection process. Thank you for clarifying this Randy, in that post, I am sure I also stated that you would know more about this than anyone and encouraged others to ask you questions. I apologize if my words added to any of this confusion, it was not my intention and I think you know that. I think my ignorance of the selection process and my lack of knowledge of who made the decisions will douse the flames of those that have insinuated I am part of the Charlie Williams good ol' boy club. FWIW, Charlie and I both live in Orlando, and in the past year we have seen each other 1 time - and it was at the World 10 ball championships (in Jacksonville). Prior to that, I hadn't spoken to him since January - I haven't spken to Frank Alvarez since the day before Thanksgiving (for those keeping score).

I've taken a lot of heat over this the past few days. I'll let you know that I enjoy playing pool, I enjoy teaching it, and I enjoy working with people that are working towards the advancement of the game. I am not a pool politician. I am a pool player that gives a $hit -big difference- and I won't stand for anyone insinuating that I would sell my soul or compromise my character by taking advantage of the fringe benefits offered by a "supposed" clique. The supposed "clique" is comprised of the best players in the world - they deserve to be where they are at. None of them get any favors from anyone. They have to put the balls in the holes just like everybody else.

It really pisses me off to see all this bickering about a successful event that is doing a lot to promote the game of straight pool. It was a positive event put on by positive people looking for a positive result. Some people have taken this as an opportunity to throw $hit in their faces due to personality conflicts that have nothing to do with the event itself. That is unfair to the players. It is unfair to the fans. It is unfair to the game of pool. In the end, it comes down to the fact that we all love this game. I believe that our actions and our words (both publicly and privately) should reflect that.

With that being said - enjoy your weekend everybody - I know I will.

Here is the way it looks a nobody, ball banging, outsider like myself:

Grady, it looks to me like the people who sponsored the event didn't want you there for one reason or another. The way your posts read, I would bet that the promoters didn't want you involved because of the bitterness that you seem to have. Plus, you are always trying to get big tournaments going yourself. Maybe they didnt want you putting your nose in their business.

You have some options:

1. Keep posting threads and getting NOWHERE with them.
2. Qualify for these events instead of waiting for an invite
3. Get your tournaments off the ground and play in them
4. Realize that it is time to hang it up and run your new pool room
5. Make nice with these people you are so mad at all the time.

The fact is, I dont know what has happened and I dont know much about professional pool but I do know that you come across, at least on here, as a very bitter person who is hard to get along with. I can't really blame them for not wanting you involved.

Maybe, if you really care about the game, you should WORK WITH these people. It seems to me that Charlie Williams has lots of connections and friends in the business who can get these bigger tournaments off the ground better than you can. Charlie seems to have a better grasp on how the business world works in the 21st century.

Good luck with your tournaments and your new pool hall.

PS: Once again, you all can bash me or bless me or give me negative reps or positive reps

Very ballsy post....and IMO, dead on accurate. Trying resolving whatever problem there is and work together to help the sport.

Is it any wonder Pool is where it is?

A pool fan steps up and puts up a chunk of his own change and what does he get for this "donation"?

There's a clique alright and its the (thankfully few) group of players that don't give a $hit about the advancement of global pool, all they care about is the cash coming into their backpockets/house!

for an "outsider", i'd say you nailed it pretty good. maybe the problem with pool is this inbred culture who are too close to know what's good for the game. grady has devoted his life to the game, so that's what he clings to,,,,his life. for all the thousands of gradys who have come and gone, pool remains in the same place it was decades ago = on the BIG stage, they've done nothing,,,and it seems possibly held the game back just to save their own sliver of a piece of the pie.

this topic plays like a broken record.

It doesn't take balls to sit behind a computer and take jabs at players like Grady and Freddy. They've paid their dues and have earned the right in the twilight of their career in pool to be a bit ornery about certain things.

I want to be ornery too. I think you have an ugly hamster. :)

Of course they have that right. The question is "is it useful'.

I think Travelin Wilburys said it best:

Well it’s all right, even if you’re old and grey
Well it’s all right, you still got something to say
Well it’s all right, remember to live and let live
Well it’s all right, the best you can do is forgive

It's a prairie dog, dammit! :D Often confused with a chipmunk. But don't let its devastingly goodlooks fool you.
