Which one? Joe Porpers Cue Holder vs Cue claw

I was wanting to buy a cue holder and I have used the cue claw but I dont like how cues can be knocked out of them.

The porper one looks good because it actually holds the cues and it would protect from accidental knock outs of the cue holder.

What do you guys think between the two? Has anyone used the Porper one?

i like the q claw, easy to setup and take off. The Porper is bulkier and takes some time to clamp and unclamp. Also, I found a lot of places you can't use the clamp, because the table is too thick or it's a solid counter block type thing. And the Porper has to be at the right height for it to work decently. If it is too low, the cue is too thick and hard to clip in and if it is too high, the cue is too thin and rattles about.

Most of the people I see are using the Q claw. I also use it. It's pretty stable and I've never had a cue fall out of it yet.

Q claw all the way much easier to use and dosent take up much space in your case

Claw all the way. The grippy part that rests on the table keeps it from sliding, and the molded rubber or plastic, or whatever it's made of is ultra gentle on cues. Also, it is indestructible, no clamps to break, no clips to break, you can drop it, step on it, whatever, just pick it back up, dust it off and it's good as new. It also works on any surface, no matter how high or low. If you have a 3x7 Instroke, the 2 cue version fits nicely with your cues, leaving a lot of space in your pockets. I have switched back to my 3x5, so back to the bottom pocket for me.

I do one better. There's a local guy who makes stands that attach to your case. It allows you to put your cues assembled in the case as a holder. It works fantastic. I've never had the case knocked over or my cues accidentally knocked to the floor.

tuffy:

Although you only list the above two, you might also want to add a third to your list, that, to me, combines the best of both worlds of the Q-Claw and the Joe Porper cue holders.

It's "The Gripper" by Bauer Enterprises:

...and its matching carrying strap:

It combines the weighted rubber idea of the Q-Claw, with the greater cue-holding ability of the Joe Porper. It's even designed to hold rifles and shotguns, that's how secure its cue-holding ability is! What's really nice about The Gripper, is the material it's made of -- a very tacky rubber compound that really grabs surfaces (even on an incline) but doesn't attract dust or dirt. And the channels that are cut/molded into The Gripper are extremely deep -- much, much deeper than the Q-Claw, and actually will hold an "over-and-under" (double-barreled) shotgun all the way to the second (lower) barrel! The pics on the website above show this.

I purchased mine last year, and I absolutely love it. Had the Q-Claw, and and disliked it because the channels are not cut deep enough (was very easy to knock a cue out of it). I ended up giving my Q-Claw away as a gift to a person I was introducing to pool.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks Sean, now I've gone and ordered the Gripper (like I need another cue holder ). It does have the deeper cut slots that is much better than the four or five assorted  Q-claws that I already own. Please DO NOT post a link to anything pool related that is better than what I've already got . I'm a sucker for a better mousetrap!!!

That is the best way. Plus you never lose your cues or have someone else stack their cue against yours in the holder.

[...can't stop laughing...] :D Thanks for adding some levity to my day, Maniac!

"But-but-but Maniac, did you know that Bauer also makes The Gripper King Caddy -- which is a 5-slot version? And-and-and, did you order the carrying strap?" [...waits and listens intently for the tell-tale mouse-clicks from Maniac plopping these items in his shopping cart...]

:D

Seriously, I think you'll love it. It's heavy-duty for sure, and I hope you have some room in your cue case's pocket for it (it's a bit larger than the same-sized Q-Claw). If you didn't get the carrying strap, you can probably just use a short bungee cord (or short buckled canvas strap) available at your nearest auto parts store or something.

Some of my cases don't allow a "butt-end first" entry. And I'm certainly not going to put my cues in shaft-down.

In these cases a Q-claw type of system is necessary.

Or, you can take a look at the Cue Dockit here, http://accessories.maestrosproshop.com/

This new item places a priority on holding your cue case or other items that can be hung (purse, jacket, etc.), but also has deep slots for cues, plus has a tray to hold chalk and/or coins. The retail price shown on the website is $19.95, but the current sale price is $17.95, plus FREE ground shipping in the contiguous states.

The Cue Dockit looks like the idea a fellow named "Stormy" who use to hang out at the SNAP Bar in Phoenix came up with years ago. Stormy also did a variation of the Case Hanger also, and I still have one.

Personally I like the Q-Claw, as in come in a 1, 2 3, and 5 Cue Holder Version, and will not scratch any thing that rest in it as it is a rubbery material.

There are several knock off Cue Claw Type holders that all have the same benefit as the original.

Big Negative of the Cue Claw is WEIGHT, and the other is the Color are Dark and can be forgotten in a dark pool room.

The other Cue holder I like is the one Cue Sight Sells that come in a 8 Ball Design, and 9 Ball Design both have a leather type pad the cues sit against to avoid damage.
