Which players irritate you the most?

Slow players drive me nuts too. I was playing this clown and he would take forever to rack the balls when I was waiting. However if I left to the bathroom, he racked them in 10 seconds. It was a total shark tactic. He would get on the table and take 30 seconds for each shot and he knew it was pissing me off. However, I reversed it on him and slowed my game right down. I would shoot, take a drink, shoot, take a drink, shoot, walk around the table etc. I actually had him complaining of slow play. Once he knew I was playing slow deliberately, he couldn't make a ball. After the match he had the balls to call me outside LOL. I told him to go and practice....

That's a good story Adana. That guy deserved it. Some players are just slow and they aren't doing it to shark anyone. I respect their game and try to be patient, but this guy was clearly doing it to shark you and that's why he got pissed off because he knew that you knew.

Then, as I walked to the car, the player followed me outside, and screamed discouraging remarks about what a shitty player I was....how I couldn't get laid....how I shouldn't be on the same table as him (keep in mind, I am ranked much higher than them).....it was actually rather amusing....

Sore losers don't bother me so much.....a sore winner needs to be taken outside and beaten with the butt end of a house cue.

I'm thoroughly convinced that more than half the bad roles I get are because of cussing at the balls. Like when you get left a thin cut that you have to hit hard to get the object ball to the pocket. I know what hole the cue ball will be rolling toward three or four rails later, so I run around the table to that pocket. As soon as I stick my middle finger up, that little white SOB curves right into the pocket.

If you really think about it, another player can't irritate you; YOU choose to be irritated or not by another's behavior.

Well said John, and ain't it the truth ! Keeping a level mental state/attitude is a prerequisite for consistant pool in my opinion. I've found it easier ignore the opponent than it is to keep my excitement down after a difficult pot/shape well executed (likely the cause of the old saying "same guy shot that shot ?"), but that's another thread ...

You are so right, it is absolutely essential to keep a level attitude while playing. I also hate those SOB's that are all agitated and hyper while playing. I just don't let it get to me.

Well, my new friend, I've heard that you were less than even-keeled when my buddy Fabian beat you in the first round of the Great White North a few years back ... and not terribly consistant at the same time. But I wasn't there, so who knows ...

But seriously, it would be interesting to understand if the external indicators match the internal temperment at any given time. Maybe you're just a pretty good actor there WEarl !

I used to play a guy who would stand by my chair while looking at the lay of the table and then cut a fart. He thought it was hysterical.

Personally, I don't think the guy had any class or professionalism. If he did, he would have been able to roll that thing around in there for a little while longer until you were shooting. Then timed it just as you were making your transition into the hit so that it resonated off the top of the wooden stool to make you lurch forward and either miss the shot badly or miscue. Now THAT is what being a pro is all about!

Probably the easiest way to offend me is accuse me of cheating. I didn't take offense to your reply. I was kinda joking around, however i do talk to the balls. How you doing Hemi? I haven't been on much. I played Steve Oaks a snooker match Tuesday. He beat me 2-1. It was a great match. Last week I ran a 56. Not bad for only playing 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years. Nice to be back visiting with you all. Sam

There is enough crap on and under the cloth as it is! I once lost a match after the cue ball hit a small piece of chalk on the cloth. The cue ball made a 45 degree turn. I suddenly had no makeable shot!

I haven't played more that 8 or 10 games on the biguns. We had 5X10s down this way.

The first game I think I snuck up on him. I played more safes than he's used to seeing out of me in 8 or 9 ball. He still plays safe extremely well and punished me the second game. He had me down 56 with one red ball left. The rule in this league is if total possible points plus one 7 point foul left on the table won't get you there, the game is over. I gave up on that game. The last game was a seesaw until about 4 reds left and I mis-hit a safety and it was over. I'm still hoping to make the Gulf Coast Classic. Hope to see you southerners there. Sam

Need to add to my original thoughts that players who seem to request a cigarette break every twenty minutes make me a little crazy.

Also, players who disappear from the table without announcing it, and who, far too often, need to be searched for when it's their turn, are very annoying.

At one point last year I believe the high run posted for the league was 35. Later in the year I think there were a couple of runs in the 50's (??Waldo and Jeanette??). Well done!!!

I agree. A few years back I was in a bar and we were all playing for fives. This prick who had the table was constantly "taking breaks". It was my turn to play and sure as hell, he disappears; so the next guy on the list racked the balls and we played. Ten minutes later dickhead returns and flips out but backed right off when a dozen guys all got in his face at once. I never saw the guy again.
