Which Pro jumps the best?

I saw Charlie Williams jump a ball in person one time and there wasn't much room between the cueball and the object ball, like less than an inch. It was pretty impressive.

However, a local player in my neck of the woods by the name of Danny Green is the best I have ever seen up front and close. The kid can jump anything from anywhere.

Several years ago at Q-Masters, while the U.S. Open was in progress, Keith McCready matched up with Tony Watson for a chunk of cheese. There was a huge crowd surrounding their table, with plenty of side bets going on. Michael Coltrain bet on Tony, and I knew then that Keith was in trouble. Michael Coltrain is an excellent handicapper.

Every time Keith tied him up, Tony would jump. I counted 42 jump balls during the match made by the North Carolinian, and needless to say, Tony won. Keith had the deer in headlights look at the conclusion of the game, and me, I thought next time, no jump cues allowed! :D

Tony and Earl were in the finals of a tournament in Greenville, SC a few years back and Earl hit what he thought was a great safety, hooking Tony behind a stack of balls with the cue ball only an inch or maybe less from the first ball. Tony surveyed the situation while interacting with the crowd like Tony does. Earl then says "lets see you jump that one", because Earl had already been complaining about Tony and others using the Gulyassy against him all tournament. Tony looks at Earl and says "OK". He sat on the edge of the tabe with the jump cue straight up and down and proceeded to jump the cue ball almost directly upwards over the stack of balls and into the object ball. The fact that he missed the shot and let Earl out was irrelevant to Tony and the crowd as everyone erupted and of course Earl goes on a rant about how the jump cues are illegal and he'll never play with one.

jump cue: kuo po cheng, sandor tot

full cue: thorsten hohmann, rafael martinez, i have also seen harun arslan make awesome drawshots while jumping with the full cue

jumping with the full cue is very common among the better european players

Among the Filipinos, little-known Elvis Perez (a Japan touring pro) is considered the best jumper.

The current issue of BD has a poll conducted of the top pros, in several disciplines. Shawn Putnam was voted best jumper by his peers.

Yes, but the whole poll is favouring americans, with the exeption of Efren, Busty and Souquet maybe.

The best overall jumpers by far comes from Taiwan, and I believe Yang is the top horse from that stable.

you gotta have yang chin shun and shin park up there.

Yes, as a specialist Shin Park really should be mentioned, you're right in that. From top pros, Yang is probably the best, and other taiwanese players comes second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth...

So, well-observed post mr.sheemagun.

You saved me the trouble of mentioning Jumping Danny Green. I have send him break the balls, and push out so that he has to jump the ball. And these can be long jumps as well. Opponents will take the hard kick shot because they just know he will make the ball. Danny jumps with a regular cue also. Uncanny.

They've been practicing that part of their repertoire in it's full potential since they don't kick that very well (except for a very few taiwanese players). thereby, decreasing or eliminating their handicap on that department. however, it would be a huge handicap on their part if ever jump is not allowed. takes a lot away from 'em.

Get a dose of Larry Nevel with the jump stick or the full cue and see how you like it. You can't really hide him. There may be some that are more accurate but none that are more impressive to me. He is a freak.

> The only reason I rated Earl and Rafael better with a full length cue than Smokey is their success in jumping balls on the thin, unnapped cloth like Simonis. Back in the early 90's when he was around, the room he made his office at had the Mali backed cloth, and the closest tables with Simonis were a 2 hour drive. Tommy D.

Morro Paez... He jumps on every shot....

Isn't his nickname the Mexican Jumping Bean????

 :)

Jumpers

With full cue - Earl and David Matlock
with jump cue - Larry Nevel

I did watch Jamie Baraks perform a 2 ball jump here that was an excellent shot. Each of the object balls were on different sides of the side pocket , both a foot away from the side pocket. He was shooting the 1 ball on the other side of the 2nd object ball, he made the 1 and got perfect 2 rail shape on the 2. I was very impressed.

There is a player in Oklahoma City named David Hendricks, who is from Wichita originally that jumps real well. I watched David shoot 3/4's of a bar table, backcut the 6 into the corner, go 1 rail to the right, and draw the cue ball clear back to the foot end rail for the 7.

Yang Ching-Shun, Chao Fong-Pang, Kang Chin-Ching, Kuo Po-Cheng, Lee Kun-Fang, Hsia Hui-Kai.....are all excellent in both. Others are because most of them are much younger and have less experiences than yours - they will be better and better in the future - Wu Chia-Ching is the best example.

actually what you had mentioned were already the Taiwanese top tiers, including Wu Chia Ching. and you have only mentioned 7 of them. which speaks my point. I do hope that the many others improve as well as their predecessors are now.

I think the jump shot Alex made with two rests placing on top of each other in the US Open finals was pretty.

someone used two stacked bridges to make a jump shot?! wtf?

Alex... pagulayan?
Yes, he needed to make a jump shot, but his cue ball was right in front of another ball, and the cue ball was also very far deep into the middle of the table. You all know Alex is not the tallest guy out there. He took out two rests, placed one on top of the other, made the jump shot, the whole crowd went wild. I was there, and it was pretty cool!
