which pros are writing here ?

Sorry - I look at the 14.1 forum as the only one specifically geared towards instruction and improvement. - Steve

I agree. I wish there were another forum besides the main forum specifically dedicated to instruction, so sifting through 50 threads to find one that might help improve my game wasn't such a chore. That's why I rarely go to the main forum. It's all interesting stuff, but I'm mostly focused on improving my game and possibly helping others improve theirs.

Steve, good luck at the qualifier. I hope to see you at the big event in August.

I know it's a little off-topic for this thread, but does anyone know how many people are being invited as compared to the qualifiers? I would expect someone like Steve to be invited, especially since it's a local event. He's one of the handful of best straight pool players in the NYC area, including the 9-ball touring pros. Doesn't seem right when there are only a few qualifying events and only the top 1-2 finishers get a slot in the main event.

Did you know whining is just grown-up crying?

Share the same courtesy you expect- you don't know what contributed to Jeannette's action, so don't ASSume.

One more reply to this. I didn't go off on a tirade calling her names or anything like that so why do you have to be an ass clown about it by calling me a whiner? I stated what happened and that's that. You weren't there so how can you form an opinion on it. It was a public event for the fans during the Expo in Vegas. Various pro players congregated at a pool room from like 7pm to whenever and were doing challenge matches. Jeanette came in like she was the queen of the ball and was really snobby throughout the entire night. And before you even begin with "well what did you say to her?" We didn't get a chance to say anything to her at all. Not one word was spoken from us. My wife picked up her case and walked over towards her to get it signed, Jeanette was looking right at her, turned her back and walked away. That really hurt my wife's feelings. Everyone we were with saw it and we were all like "Wtf was that?"

Maybe she was having a bad night, I don't know. But if she was having a bad night then she shouldn't have shown up at all.

I played a practice set with Jeanette years ago and she was very rude to me. She wouldn't say anything when I spoke to her and drilled me. I wasn't expecting that since we were at a PBTA tournament that she wasn't competing in. I got the chance to play her a couple more sets at later tournaments and returned the favor. Any other time I've been around her she's always been very nice and pleasant to everyone.

It's really unfortunate that a lot of these pros don't contribute more than they do. I have a pretty good feeling that the reason they don't do so is that most any time they do post they get a lot of flak from other members of this forum about various things. To all of the ones that do post especially here in the straight pool forum thank you so much.

Jeanette Lee is good people. She has always been open and endearing whenever I have seen her in public. If all of the other pros would carry hemselves in a similiar manner pro pool would be on a different level.

As far as the bad experience, I am sorry for your loss and displeasure. The bad experience could have just been a fluke or bad timing. But as I said I was not there but if you give up on Jeanette you are really missing out.

Get over yourself. She was at a public function for the fans. In a situation like that she needs to act as the professional that she is. My wife had been looking forward to meeting her, probably the Asian woman connection, and she didn't even get to say anything to her. If you were there you would agree that it was uncalled for. Everyone we were with were like WTF was that?

Try this one on for size. My son and I have been hockey fans since the late 70s'. We are real big fans of Wayne Gretzky. Every year BMW has a celebrity pro-am golf tournament and Wayne always plays. My son and grandson got tickets through my son's work. They followed Wayne for a few holes and approached him for autographs. Gretzky was, as usual, accommodating everyone who asked. When my son and grandson came up to him, Wayne says: "Back again, huh? I thought they threw you guys out yesterday." My son was amazed and tried to tell Wayne that he had worked the day before and wasn't even there. Wayne was rude and quite nasty. Later on, he finally gave my son and grandson three autographs but wasn't nice about it at all.
My son was real upset about it and found out later in the day that some guys had been thrown out the day before for following Wayne around the course and heckling him most of the day. My son apparently resembled one of them.
Just goes to show, you have no idea what's going through someone's mind if they don't tell you. If it were me, I'd try contacting JL through her web site and politely explain what happened and ask for an explanation. Since Jeanette is Korean-American, I doubt that your wife being Asian had anything to do with it. She might have an explanation.
Just my $.08.

Well, for what it's worth I wasn't very pleased with Buddy's attitude that day either. During his challenge matches he was walking around talking to people while the challenger was shooting. Hey, I totally understand how he feels, I just think if someone is paying to shoot pool with you then you need to give them your attention.

Rodney Morris was fantastic the other evening. He only walked away from the table once, to take a piss, but other than that he was a true gentleman the entire evening.

Mully,

I have seen Jeanette many many times at events and I have never seen her refuse to talk to a fan, pose for pictures, or sign an autograph for anybody - so your post really confuses me.

Jeanette's policy is to never refuse those requests from fans. I have personally watched her pose 3 or 4 times just to make sure the fan has a good picture with her. Win or lose - Jeanette doesn't leave the area until she has signed every autograph and posed for every picture. That is what I have always seen.

2 years ago, Jeanette and George allowed me take pictures of Cheyenne when she was learning how to walk - Neither of them really know me all that well but they understand that the pool world loves their entire family - and as fans, we are privileged to have access to them as easily as we do. Both Jeanette and George really go the extra mile 100% of the time to interact and be accessible to the fans.

This is the first negative experience that I have ever heard about.

I have never heard of Jeanette being anything else but nice, cordial, polite, (and above all else) grateful and accessible to all of her fans.

I met Jeanette recently and she went out of her way to do me, a lowly league player wannabee, a favor. I was hoping she'd at least sign a copy of BD for a teammate of mine who really likes her. She not only signed the BD, but posed with me for two photos where we were pretending to be on a dinner date! My wife about freaked when she saw the photos ("I'm coming with you next time!"). I was the big man on campus at the poolhall when I showed them to my team. Some guy came up to me in the parking lot and asked if I was really dating Jeanette! I laughed and explained the whole thing....I was going to milk it, but no use starting trouble for anyone.

If that considerate attitude isn't her usual demanor, then she's one hell of an actress (She's not bad at that, either, when I saw her on Arlis (sp?) on HBO.)

She did much more than that for me, too, but I'll leave it for elsewhere,

I am disappointed by some of the contents of this thread.

We don't have a moderator assigned to this sub forum. That is because we are a relatively intelligent group of people that can police ourselves by staying on topic and being respectful when communicating with each other. I hope we can keep it that way. Please don't bring drama or bickering over here. This is not the place for any of that.

I only saw her in person once at ProTyme in Orland Park at an IPT qualifier a few years back. She seemed very friendly and accessible. I didn't want to bother her because I imagine she has plenty of that.

p.s. I thought this was the straight pool forum.

I was wondering that as well, as it sure don't seem like it with this thread.... I'm thinking that this thread would be better if it were moved to the main forum section.
