White w/Green Speck Irish Linen question

hey guys i just purchased some of the white w/green speck from Atlas.....i've always been fond of the combination especially on classically designed cues.

I havent gotten any in about 5 years and what I had I purchased from a friend. It was def new and not old cortland.

My problem is the stuff i got in seems to be overboard with the green speck, what I had before had a much lighter amount of green speck.

This new stuff seems to have twice as much of the green speck, and imop looks like chit.

Does anyone know where to get a white/green speck that the green isn't off air?

regards,
Keebie

I still have some really old ones ( but not Cortland ).
Will trade u for some BrazRswd if u want.

Did you buy the Hurlbert or the other they offer? The Hurlbert is very good and has the classic Irish Linen look to it. It also has IMO a better feel. It is a little thicker and feels nice when finished.

Yes, I have 2 different spools from Atlas that have strikingly different colors of green. One a light green and the other a darker saturation. Neither one, however is Hurlbert.

When you use the Hurlbert you will hear some people complain it has loose threads they don't like. This is not really true. You will find in the course of doing a wrap maybe a half dozen times you will have to back off a wrap or two and pluck out a piece of linen that has gotten twisted into the thread when it was made.

This is not broken threads but just loose pieces floating around that got caught. All you need is a tweezer sitting there and pluck them out.

It may add a minute or two to the wrapping time but is not at all a problem. You just have to pay attention. For me I think it is worth the time because it is such a nice wrap.

I'd be interested in seeing some pics of the new wrap. I've always been interested in any white w/green speck that had more green in it.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

white green

I don't think Hulbert makes white with green spec.
Blue mountain use to, but now they are gone.
Think the new stuff is chinese.

You got me curious so I gave them a call. You are correct, they don't do it any more there is such a small calling for it. He said they do like 80% black with white that is the most popular.

Hulbert and the people there are top notch. I worked with them for over a year trying to
come up with a Cortland substitute. They went above and beyond on the project, but unfortuneately we were not able to come up with a solution.
I've had to learn to work with the chinese stuff. I sure hope they
haven't changed the spec pattern.

Why not simply buy some genuine Cortland from
the Pechauer custom shop and get the real thing ???

Or maybe you could buy some white/green from
the TAD shop...Theirs is the light green and not
those ugly blotchy spots that you have now.

not a bad idea. i usually only put that on old classic cues....but this one is from a 100+ year old vigneaux splice (butterfly)....sold on the idea.

Got these but traded the two spools already.
These are the old Atlas kind..

You are correct about Hurlbert, they don't make many colors any more.
The linen they have is not Chinese though. I've seen too many of the spools.

If you cut a few inches off you can separate and count 6 strands. 5 white 1 green. Same as it always was.
