Who all could Skyler Woodward play even against on the big tables (in 9 ball)?

I remember reading awhile back that SVB has a millionaire backer (not sure if that is true, or if he still uses that same backer), but even if he did not have a backer (and played with his own money), would Shane not have at least a 50/50 chance against Skyler playing 9 ball, race to 100, on a bar table? Or how about Jeffrey Ignacio? How do you think he would do against Skyler if he were to accept that challenge? I do not know. Maybe Skyler is the best bar table player in the world. It is just hard to believe that not even 1 player has accepted his challenge. Are there no gamblers left in pool?

I'm surprised Orcollo isn't trying to get in that game on a weekly basis.

I couldn't agree more....

This is no way diminishes the fact that he plays great on a 9ft table also... he's just better on the bar table than the big table comparatively at this point in his career.

If you just look at his wins in long races (21 I believe) against Shane on the bar table, that is much less likely on a 9ft table in my opinion.

Here you go

Why would you want to bring cold hard facts and concrete numbers to prove your point? That's just plain ludicrous. It's quite obvious now that no matter how much evidence you provide, people are just not going to change their minds. You can show this again in 2 years with 2000 games of just 9' results and have numbers to prove that he is performing better on 9' than 7' and you will still get backlash and Sky will still be labeled as a one trick pony bar box specialist.

Sometimes it's about the background stuff. Will only play in his home room. Needs to be this make of table or even balls. Can't find agreeable neutral site or just maybe would rather find easier action and not gamble big money on a coin flip.

Any of the above can be action killers.

as good as sky plays on the bb, i have to think that most top players would be able to crack that nut within a race to100 under just about any circumstances.

Interesting. I did not see any results vs SVB in the video. Does that mean Sky has never played Shane on a big table in your database?

What is Sky's record vs Shane and Dennis on bar tables?

Yes that's right we have no 9-foot matches between Sky and Shane

The second is a good question. It turns out Sky has played 9 matches totaling 125 games (4 matches against SVB (822) and 5 against Dennis(816)). We can easily see what the expectation is for him. Please read before checking below.

The average of Shane and Dennis is a Fargo Rating of 819, and at 776, Sky is 46 points below this.

The fraction of games Sky should win is 1/(1+2^(46/100)) which is 42.1%

So of the 125 games
Sky is supposed to win 0.421*125 = 52.6
SVB/Dennis are supposed to win 72.4

The actual is 53 to 72!

Yes, this is lucky-good agreement. But things really do work out about how they are supposed to....

Here are the 7-foot matches we have for them

The thing is the matches which make us believe that Sky might be the best bar table player in the world are not listed in your results.

Sky double dipped SVB in the finals. I do not know what the score was in the first set but he beat SVB 15-10 in the second set. After losing to Corey Deuel, Sky beat Justin Bergman, Darren Appleton, and Corey Deuel to face SVB in finals.

Sky beat SVB 21-18 in the hot seat match and 21-18 in the finals.

This is simple... Go ask Sky if he would rather play Jason Shaw or Mike Dechaine on a big table... rotation... for a lot of money...

Then ask him if he would rather play them on a smaller table.... I'm guessing he would pick smaller....

Thats not saying he doesn't play great on a big table also, just not comparatively as strong.

If you look at his fargo rating... it would be MUCH higher if everyone played on bar table events..... Because he finishes higher in these events on a consistent basis. This is not saying he doesn't have some good wins and finishes on 9ft tables.. just not as many comparatively.

Well Billy Bean didn't win a World Series yet Theo Epstein did because he knew analytics were flat and you could not simply measure off pure numbers that's how he built a World Series champion in Boston with players like Big Poppy and how he's now trying to do the same with the cubs what makes him special is he can spot the things that can't be messured by numbers when there is simply not enough data to support it ,
Math simply can't equate the human element it can only give u predicted out come based on numbers it's been proven right many of times and it's proven wrong many of time .
When it was brought up about Wu and his ranking being questioned the fact is anyone who knew about Wu weren't the ones asking the question they didn't need a Fargo rate to know he was simply the best player on this planet in top gear

I think you are likely right about this.

Here I contend you and the pro players referred to above are wrong.

I say this after examining the evidence carefully. I am not sharing the details here, but I find Skylar's performance for 800+ games played on 9-foot tables over the last two years matches his overall performance or his performance on 7-foot tables very closely.

I think it is common in pool to have what I call NARRATIVES that while they may have some truth to them are both exaggerated and persist after the evidence shows otherwise.

The NARRATIVE that SVB was not a high-level one pocket player was pretty strong the day before he won Derby one pocket event. Psychologists have found that the act of stating an opinion out loud has a big effect on how subsequent evidence is viewed. If we have verbalized that service is bad at this restaurant we tend to weight new evidence that fits the narrative higher than new evidence that doesn't.

I think that Skylar plays better on a 7-foot table is a narrative that should die.

The evidence fails to support it.

Great point in the psychology. A great rule of the the mind, "what the mind expects tends to be realized"

In hypnosis it is called the compounding of suggestion. Each added same suggestion strengthens each previous same suggestion. This strengthens the belief in the subconscious.

Because of this two people, with completely different life events have different perceptions when watching the same event

Isn't playing someone from Kentucky bank pool like spitting into the wind?

It is actually part of their school courses required in Kentucky. I lived there and played 9 ball with folks I could give the 7 to them and I wouldnt play them even playing banks.....its the standard trap for folks out of town.

i wonder if Shaw or Dechaine would want to play some big sets against Sky in some bank pool.

Just so I'm clear... I'm a SKY fan... not making any negative comments about Skyler...

And I believe the context of this discussion is totally in reference to 9/10 ball matches....

I would also go on record as saying that I think it is clear that Skyler is still getting better and has a great chance to be an elite 9ft player also.

Agreed, Shane Van Boening, Rodney Morris and Mike Dechaine would be heavily favored in any long match on the big tables, but Skyler has a very realistic chance against any other American in a match of any length.

There is this guy around Marietta, Ga. I'm almost sure would be a favorite....

Sky also just beat Shane in Four Bears http://www.azbilliards.com/news/stories/12935-gomez-and-keeney-take-four-bears/

Though I will be very surprised if Sky has much better H2H against the top elite players in BarBox if we looked at results for 30 matches or more :)

Sky won on the hill 6-5. And there was another match at 4-bears that went the other way, leaving for a total SVB 11 Sky 8. Match scores are not online, but I have the match cards ;-). Here are all of Sky's matches from Newtown. He basically lived up to expectation---rating went down 0.1 points for the weekend.

What's Sky's total matches won/lost on 9' vs 7'?

What's the average Fargo rating of the opponents he's beaten on 9' vs 7'?

Thanks in advance.
