Please do, many people here on the forum would certainly appreciate it. However, there is much more to it than just making over lapping Butterfly Splices, but even then there are only two Cue Makers that can do it like these. All Billy's are perfectly even, no Glue lines in between the veneers, not to mention how well his cues play.

Here's the link. I think it's a similar technique. I will try it out eventually but you guys may want to experiment with it now.

Thanks for posting!!! That's pretty much the way I expected it to be, but never really found time to attempt. I seen a McDermott years ago that had a buttsleeve that was designed nearly exactly like this rolling pin, and have always wanted to use the design but never found time. Pretty simple stuff. I'm with you, it looks great & I wouldn't take anything away from cuemakers using this technique, but it's not tricky & i'm positive more than two cuemakers in the world are capable & knowledgeable enough to perform the task.

Found photo of the finished cue..............knew it was somewhere.

Hey Eric...........second in from the right is the sister to the one that was on the desk you looked at. I just swapped the halfs around when I glued them back up.

Nice stuff, Dave!!!!! Yeah, I recognized that sleeve design from your desk :) Butterfly designs are friggin beatiful, especially with vibrant colored woods that contrast. That first pic you posted is exactly the design I seen in the old McDermott, but much nicer woods.

WOW!
Thanks Craig.
Billy has mastered the art of butterflies like Dave and Paul.
Joey~Will dog Craig for not using ' on Billy's and using it on photos~

Thanks............I wanted the grain in the tulipwood to line up as exact as I could get it so I had to make sure that I didn't cut out any more than what I was putting back in. Quite the challenge........
