who are the best "old" players today?

If over 50 fits your definition of "Old"

I played in Wilson, NC tonight. I played an older man for a few hours and he played pretty good. He was probably in his mid to late seventies and made me start thinking about the top players his age.

Who are the best players over seventy, eighty or even in their nineties? Are there former pros from the 40s, 50s who still play good?

Then Efren Reyes of course!?!?! followed closely by fellow countryman Jose Parica.

Willie Munson from Milwaukee and Wendall Weir from Illinois. Tom Collins for snooker.

I ran into an old fellow t a tournament at Capone's who said there was a guy who lived at The Villages who was nicknamed "Preacher". He said he was over 80 and could still run 100 once in awhile. I think he said he was out of Chicago.

Hey Jay is Bunny-Pots and Pans still alive? I sat with him several times at the DCC while Earl was playing and he is a hoot, calling Earl- Stricknine and saying playing him was just like taken poison ten years ago.

Leonard

He was still around last year at the IPT tournaments in Vegas AND Reno. What a character! A real flirt with the ladies, too! :D

Henry 'Patch-eye' Basheer from Philly is in his 70's and still playing strong one pocket....matter of fact, he might very well be the best 72-or-older one pocket player in the country...I don't believe 'Squirrel' can beat him.

IMO, Squirrel would not stand a chance now against Patch. It's been about 5-6 yrs since I last saw Patch shoot but he was very, very impressive playing one pocket. While Marshall still moves real well, his pocketing ability just isn't there anymore.

Speaking of Patch, he was without a doubt, the best player I've ever seen controlling the rock when it was only an inch or 2 away from the object ball. He could draw or follow it just as easy as if they were a foot apart. Absolutely amazing.

I don't know how old he is but Don Steele was still winning tournaments maybe less than 10 years ago.

Rodney "Babe" Thompson out of the Phoenix area. He didn't spend much time hustling on the road but always played with the best. He just won a BCA seniors (super seniors singles) in Vegas --- and he has Parkinsons disease. The man has lots of heart (always did and still does).

thanks for the input everyone.

I love it when an ole timer steps up and shows the young guys a thing or two or even three!

Babe Thompson was originally from the Chicagoland area. He would come to Bensinger's periodically in the 60s. He was a fine player then, and I'm glad to hear he can still dab it. Please say hello to him for me. He and Don Rose were the best straight pool players in the area.

I think Danny DiLiberto is ABSOLUTELY a great player, but even more so, I can't get enough of his commentating. He is amazing.

He is witty, fun to listen to, extremely insightful and knowledgeable. He sees things on the table so very well.

Danny, if you are out there …. Great Job. You are my billiard hero! Thanks for the entertaining informative work you do.

You should hope I never get your ear, cause I'd never let you go. :)
Danny is one of my favorite commentators on Accu-stats. I learn something every time I listen to him and he's always entertaining with his knowledge and short stories.

Don Rose has been giving private lessons for many years in Phoenix area and see that Babe is also giving lessons. Passing on some of that knowledge.

Wish they were here

I wish they were still both here in Chicago so I could hang with them and cut up the knowledge.
