Baltimore used to be the hub for pool action when Jack and Jill's in Glen Burnie used to be the old "Bill and Billie's." Gotta throw Cigar Tom Vanover from Dundalk in the mix, and then there's White Max, Greenie, Teddy Williams, Tom-Tom Wirth, and Fat Mike, just to name a few!

Anyone heard of Tex from Carbondale
I don't know how Dennis spelled his last name something like Geshke or
Geashke. Nicknamed TEX. Played Johnson City and hung out at Stardust and Gatsby's in the mid 70's and 80's in Carbondale IL. He should be on any state list if still around and playing. Was buddies with Bill Mechum now in CO Springs who should be on the CO list. They'd go head to head I think Tex got the better of it in the end. Sure would like to know where Tex lives these days.

This was a major factor that drove me to play the game I play. People should be happy to see the guys on the pro tour dressing nicely, leaving the venue after tournament play & not sticking around to gamble all night. Believe me, I love to watch action games as much as the next fan of pool but leave that to the people that WANT to do that & don't call out those that don't. Shawn Putnam, and a whole slew of other guys on the tour are doing their best to be professionals and get sponsorship and make the world think better of this sport in general....why is that a bad thing? I don't get it. For every pro that's trying to distance himself from the dark side & clean up the image of the sport, there's got to be a 100 guys out there that don't give two sh!ts about the image or sponsorship or anything else for that matter. Go gamble or try to gamble with them.... there's a plethora of them out there. I don't understand why people are calling these VERY FEW guys out for not gambling or in some cases resulting to shark tactics to win or whatever else it is that some of you insist on claiming about people that you really don't know. Here's a little didya know... I was witness to a conversation this weekend between Shawn & Dave Hemmah. It seems Dave (another heckuva nice guy on the tour) is working on getting a project going in his area where pool will actually be a subject taught in the schools. I heard Shawn tell Dave that he would love to come out there & teach. Who do you think soccer mom is going to want teaching her kids about pool? Guys like Shawn & Dave who dress nice, play the tournament, & then head to the hotel to get some rest after the tourney, or the guy that just spent all night in the pool room gambling with no ambition to do anymore than just that when it comes to pool? hmmmm, bet I can make a pretty good guess at who she's going to want teaching her kid....
I could go on but no one will read it and/or give a sh!t so I'll finish by saying this. A) try having a little respect for the few good guys out there trying to do something right. B) If you or ANYONE else on this board wants to sit in judgement of the pro's or anyone else for that matter, HAVE THE F'n BALLS to sign your REAL NAME to the nonsense that you insist on posting. I notice you had no trouble puting Shawn's name in print... I also noticed that yours was missing. Talk about people with no heart & no gamble.....

3 Cushion in the last 30 years. I certainly had a few opportunities to gamble but the game has always been more important than the money with 3C players. There's lots of reasons for this but for the most part 3C players aren't gamblers with this game.
It wasn't a week after I first picked up a cue in a pool hall that someone attempted to fleece my pockets. I hadn't even figured out which end of the cue to hit the ball with yet. I almost quit when I found a pocketless table and soon noticed nobody wanted to gamble. Why? It wasn't because I knew what I was doing. It was nobody else knew, what I was trying to do, and they were simply gutless robbers not gamblers.
