Who are the top five players in your state?

I have never heard of Big arm John. Is he the "Big John", that was on the road with George, C.J. Wiley, Dave Matlock at various times? I have heard also of a "Concrete John" from Kentucky - this is getting very confusing.

Concrete John is not Big Arm John

Concrete John was stakehorse with a concrete business. He lived in Louisville, KY

Mika no longer resides in New York. And even if he did, I think that Tony deserves to be on the top of this list. For those of you that don't know, Mika just beat Tony last month in the IPT event in Reno. That was his first victory over Tony in about 4 years. Tony had beaten Mika about 12 - 15 times in a row in a 4 year span before last month. If you don't believe me, juat ask Mika whan you see him.

Even though George Sansouci doesn't play as much as he used to, he also deserves to be on this list. He is still capable of beating anyone of these guys on any given day.

Gotta disagree there. If the Tony you are referring to is Tony Robles, I'd put him just a notch BELOW Mika. Personal records have nothing to do with who is the better player. Just because someone may have your number mentally doesn't make them a better player than you.

I agree with this post. I would also like to mention that, even though they are not from here, these guys play in WA a lot: Stan Tourangaeu (I have played him), Mike Vidas (never played him), Bob Zack (played him), Kevin Cardinal.

But Glen IS the best player around here (besides my sleeper). Lives like three blocks from me. I do know a guy named Jessie Allred, that beat Glen 6 out of his last 7 times. I won money off of a bet when he came back from being down 6-2 at Rialto's in Portland for the Pechauer Tour stop (which I placed 9th by the way). I got 2:1 for my money that day. Nobody really knows who my buddy Jessie is, and he plays better than anyone in the state.

Also, Ivan Doty plays real well too.

here in ga we have some really good players...but one i want to speak of is THE GREAT horace harper.....at least he claims to be....maybe in his day he was a great player but now he is really a pathetic old man......he tells everyone he was a world champion....i have never see anythiong that backs up that statement....i dont even find anything about him being a champion of any sorts....he is really funny in th fact that he bull dogs others and when he is called out he chooses to get all quiet......it makes me sick that people like him that have so much to offer insist on trying to impress others with their own fantasies......ill be honest .....i think my surviving cancer is a much greater accomplishment that alot of the crap we hear on here .....i only share my last 4 years with people to educate them on what i have learned......never try to force it down there throats......pool is such a great sport and has really been good to me during my illness....why do some people try to drive others away with there assnine attitudes and comments.....i will say there are great people on here and they play also.....two great people are sarah rousey, and don purdman......don has helped me in so many way that i cant even begin to tell you ....and sarah is such a great caring young lady......if people would only take the time to look they would see the greatness in all.....we should not be made to feel inferior by others ....and you people know who you are........sorry if i got off subject.....

good players here are not necessarily champions and they include...bruce berong,my best friend( william brantley)....and we have some great players also....monica webb, helena thornfeldt, johnny archer just to scratch the surface

my favorites as far as good players go are charlie brown from kentucky, gary abood from shreveport, james walden from oklahome, and shannaon bryant from the carolinas...

thanks for listening to me ramble on....lol......juston coleman

You, my friend, are more well-informed than most. I also am a fan of this guy. Ever since he blew me away one night unexpectedly.

I was playing at Road Dogs in OKC. This guy was there hangin' out with Danny (the owner, former PBT player). I asked him to play, and Danny said that I would have to pay for his time beacuse he was "on the clock." So I said "why not?" Didn't really understand why i would have to cover his time, but I had won $500 the night before, so I didn't care. Anyways, I break, ran like six balls (we were playing 8-ball on a Brunswick Gold Crown) and missed shape on my last ball and played "safe." Well, it wasn't very safe after all....he proceded to run that rack and 12 more racks on me!!!!!

I swear I sat and racked for him for over an hour!! He didn't miss a damned shot. Finally, in the 13th rack, he played safe. I got out my jump cue, made the shot and ran out the last rack. He said "Nice shooting."

I couldn't believe this guy...ran 12 on me and says nice shooting. I told him that if I hadn't known better to play for money guys I have never seen shoot, I woiuld've lost all of mine.

He had to play the weekly tournament that night one handed to 5 (3 games for everyone else) and WON IT!!!

Best player I have ever seen. Watch out for him on the IPT tour, he got his card. Ranked 60th right now.

I know you will find this hard to believe but a whole host of Filipino champions have offered him the 7 ball when his backer was the big car dealer. Those that have offered him the seven include Efren, Busta, Antonio, Jose, Alex, Dennis. He plays good but some of the fillipinos just never miss. I had the pleaseure of backing Antonio, Van Van, and Luat numerous times. Playing games that the balls are shot in rotation the are a cut above.

Missouri

I saw a couple of attempts at Missouri that did not mention Danny Harriman!! If there is someone else who belongs at the top of that list please tell me!!

What state is Jessie from? Bald/shaved head guy who looks like Mr. Clean...killer break...plays jam up on the barbox. He beat me in Columbia SC.:o

MO is kind of difficult for a couple of reasons. First off, we don't have many pros living in MO (there's Danny and... well that about sums it up as far as I know, lol) which means that you can't rely on tour rankings or anything like that. The other thing is that the "State Championship" is actually kind of a joke because a) if you win you can't play again for 10 years (there was talk of changing this for players over 50 yrs., but I don't know if it will happen), and b) they restrict the tournament to amateur players. That means guys at the top like Quinn, Terbrock, Hassell, Warren, etc. are currently ineligible to play in the tournament (barring any changes to the rules, of course) b/c they have won it recently (most recently was Terbrock in Feb., 06). I would like to see a more inclusive state tournament in MO, because I think it's a good format (two round-robins leading into a double-elim), and it generally draws most of the top players in the state.

You are absolutely correct!! Wow, he got around. I met him in Portland at the McDermott tour stop at The Nite Hawk. First time I had ever seen him. Crushed everyone until he ran into Mike Zimerman (who found a way to slug rack him). But, Jessie would have his revenge.

Yeah, he does have a killer break and the whole nine. Best shortstop I know. He told me about so many players he played in Vegas at the Cue Club and down in Reno. He has a story for every day of the week.

P.S. I beat Jessie for the first time a couple Mondays ago. He went to tell his wife and she was like "Yeah right, OK" and he was like "Yeah, he got me." She couldn't believe it, because he had never lost to me.

He beat Stan Tourangaeu that Friday TWICE at Cadillac Island Casino.

I tell you, pros don't want to play this guy!! Watch out when he enters the IPT in 2008. (I secretly plan on trying for '09-'10, so shhhhhhhh)

Hippie-man,
Greetings. I am going to have to agree with Tony's top 5 list. In games without a power break, I think JL is definitely in the top 5. In power-break games, well, she probably still is. Who would you place ahead of her (and when was the last time you saw her match up?)?? I've personally seen her trounce 2 players on that list at medium length sets.

Here is a link to a thread where she competes heads up against some of the better Indiana players.

Scaredy-Cat Walden ran 12 racks on 8 ball in a row?

Yeesh. I hope he gets over his fear of gambling.

Who has he backed off from? I know for a fact that he has taken $150,000 from Flyboy. Hard to do that if you are a "Scaredy-Cat" with a fear of gambling. Everytime Someone rolls into OKC with a big wad of cash looking for action, who do you think they call up? Yep, the "Scaredy-Cat"

Haven't been all over Georgia, but in Atlanta alone:

Johnny Archer
Cliff Joyner
Stevie Moore
Doug Young

And aside from that, I'll take Tommy Kennedy, although I dunno where in Georgia he's from....
