I've always played alternate breaks, like one pocket. This gives an advantage to the one who can remember back to the previous break.

When playing friendly games, it is always best to play alternate breaks b/c it is good to practice your opening break. Alternate breaks will allow you to practice that long shot from the upper corner.
On the other hand, if you are playing money games, lag for each match.

I like this way, it's a great incentive and fun way to play in a friendly game where you would rather not bet money.

I like the alternate break format for multiple games against the same opponent.

Otherwise, lagging is always my preferred method.

In our leagues we play two matches each night.

one league we alternate.

the other league we lag each game.

informal games, always alternate.

So, after additional input, the tally is:

Always Lag: 3 votes

Alternate Breaks: 5 votes

Loser Breaks: 2 votes

.... Looks like Alternate Breaks is coming out the most popular choice. I can live with that!

We lag for the 1st break and the winner has the choice. After that I've always played winner breaks unless there's a spot ivolved. Then the player who gets the spot breaks. Lagging every game sounds like a better idea.

And .... doesn't punish the poor guy that can't lag !!! LOL
