I am uncertain, but I am certain it was not a White Man!!! Because everyone knows that White men can't Jump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, but there are some threads about this in the Archive!!!!!

Have a good Night

Earl Strickland invented the jump-draw shot against Ismal Paez in 1989 (see accu-stat archives)!

There is a Billiard Book that was re-published in 1852 that describes the jump shot. Might have been writen by Earl's Great Grandfather?......SPF=randyg

yeah , there was a black player(charley weaver) in houston in the 1960's.he had a 24 hr room before they were legal. he jumped the ball , went down the table and drew all the way back. everyone marveled at this shot. but the shot has been around a long long time. all the other places had a sign" no jump or masse shots allowed"

Bill Sharman and Paul Arizin invented the jump shot in the 50's. They were both college All Americans and had long NBA careers.

Ohhhh, sorry! Wrong jump shot. Excuuuuuse me!

Not sure if we'll ever have a definitive unchallengeable answer as to exactly who invented it........but whoever it was I personally wish that they hadn't and that jump shots will some day be deemed illegal, the sooner the better.

To head off one anticipated thrust of reply ....yes I can play jump shots competently but hate everything about them both in principle and in practice.

After reading this thread, it begs the question. Now that we have established the jump shot's origin, who, pray tell, invented the jump cue?

Let's see which bird comes down with the secret word!

I HOPE all of you are kidding about jump shots in pool being invented any time during the second half of the 20th century.

I distinctly remember seeing very old documentation (like....MINGAUD old...) showing the different actions that could be put on a billiard ball with the stick depending on where the tip struck the ball, and I am 100% sure it had the jump shot on that diagram.

I would hazard a guess that Mingaud was the very first, as he spent months scientifically dissecting the different effects he could produce on a billiard ball with a leather tip on his cue.

He was in prison at the time.

How apropos, given the current state of the game.. :D
