Who is America's Greatest Living Cuemaker

In no specific order, I'ld go for Mister Dennis Searing, Mister Paul Mottey, Mister Joel Hercek, Mister Tony Scianelli (Black Boar) and mister Bryan Mordt.

Tom Penrose

Let's not forget Leonard Bludworth, another master craftsman.

This thread should have been broken down into 2 groups...
Greatest using aid of computer...
Which would be Ernie hands down...

Greatest without aid of computer..
Then B. Szamboti and Bill Schick would be my picks..

I just think all 3 deserve mention..

Ken

Ken's dead on....it would be hard to seriously argue anything but these....and that's based on seeing A LOT of cues.

Sean

More good cuemakers to day than ever.

But I never felt a TAD I didn't like. He just seems to have the secret to making great playing cues. And his small inlaid work is without equal to this day.

Schick #1

My vote goes to Bill Schick, but I may be a little biased as I play at Schicks Billiards quite a bit.

biased opinion..... keith josey. ;) i'm a big fan of p. tascarella, b. szamboti, d. searing and j. showman also.

With the aid of a computer you can't beat McWorter....no way

Mr. Dieckman for the old school of cue artistry...

He learned from Thomas Wayne. :)
Wayne did some stuff that took cnc cues to another level.

I am uncertain that a post like can ever amount to anything, but I am also certain that the out come will be interesting. I can state though, as a fact that Ernie has currently been making cues longer than any other living cue maker in this Country, so that must count for something.

Craig

Not argueing the fact that Ernie "may" be the best on the planet but he hasnt been at it longer than Abe Rich {a fourth generation cue maker} of Star Cues in Miami Beach...at 94 he still is at it and I believe he got his start at Rich cues of NYC back when Moby Dick was a minnow.

94 is an
Old Cuemaker...:)

greatest

Dependant upon playability or looks, you could not go wrong with Bill Schick or Richard Harris.Bill's makes a darn fancy cue and Richard's are a lot less fancy but play just as good.

this needs to be broken down into categories. best looking cues, best playing cues and best overall cues.

best looking i'd say a fanelli and for best playing and best overall I'd have to say a scruggs but i haven't really gotten my hands on too many big name cues.

My choice should be no surprise to most who know me (as well as those who don't. Just read my signature). Paul Mottey is, in my opinion, second to none. He is a master craftsman whose cues play as solid as they look and their looks are second to none. His pointwork ranks him with the best in the field while his inlay work is also superior to most. His classic designs are simple and elegant with beautiful lines. His unique, creative, artisitic designs are also flawless in execution. And, I for one, happen to be a tremendous fan of Burl and there is noone who does burl like Paul Mottey.

My list of extremely close second place finishers would be as follows:

(Keep in mind that these are in no particular order)

1) Bill Schick - 100% unique designs and scrimwork is second to none (as so many cuemakers today don't do their own scrimwork anymore). Bill's cues are beautiful in design, excellent in craftsmanship, and solid in playability. His work is excellent.
2) Ron Haley - Beautiful, exceptionally clean cues that are downright classy in every way.
3) Bob Manzino - Excellent designs. Unparalleled silver work. Beautiful cues. (See HiRun526's Floating Ivory Window cue or Lucky's curly Bubinga handle cue). My favorite is Bill Grassley's Manzino!
4) John Showman - Classic designs and flawless execution. Beautiful point and veneer work and excellent inlays. What else needs to be said.
5) Joel Hercek - Another master cuebuilder whose besigns are unique, creative, envelope pushing, and tasteful. He is at the top of the list in every aspect of cue making AND he does full splice work to boot!
